Marc points to a study done in Edinburgh which used thermal images of random homes in the city to demonstrate how much heat is lost through windows.
Duette blinds are a modern take on pleated blinds and have a patented double-walled honeycomb design which allows them to form air pockets that give them energy-saving properties. They can reduce the amount of heat that escapes through windows by a third during the winter and are also one of the best blackout blinds on the market, as there are no stitching holes for light to penetrate through. Then there are shutters which come into their own during the winter months providing privacy and excellent energy-saving properties. As well as the traditional wooden ones, there is a new collection of attractive vinyl shutters which are superb at keeping heat in. While the focus is quite rightly on energy saving, Marc also says that blinds, shutters and curtain look stunning as well. As well as performing a vital function, blinds, shutters and curtains also look gorgeous with stunning fabrics and wood finishes which can set any room off a treat, he said.
Blinds and curtains can act as an all-important physical barrier in preventing heat escaping through windows and should be drawn at every opportunity during the winter months.

Visitors (5) are welcome. Dying trees to be cut down WORKS to remove a number of dying and diseased trees at the Dingle in Handbridge has begun. The trees were identified as dead, dangerous or dying through a professional tree report commissioned by the Councils Greenspace team. The works are part of a larger project to increase safety, as well as improving the quality of the boroughs woodlands and the Councils tree stock as a whole. Local member for Handbridge Park, Cllr Neil Sullivan, said: Whilst nobody likes to see trees being removed from our open spaces in this case it is unavoidable and the only option open to us. Each of the trees has been monitored by the Councils Greenspace team for some time now and a decision has been taken to remove them for the safety of the public. Should any of the trees fall they will land on one of the main roads into Chester or onto the paths in the Dingle that are used daily by lots of people walking into Chester. We must put the safety of walkers and motorists first, which unfortunately on this occasion means the removal of the trees. Best ever results at QPHS

ONCE again Queens Park High School students celebrated the fact that they exceeded the schools GCSE target as they collected their examination results. The year group achieved excellent results and managed to outperform the fantastic results the school achieved last year. The percentage of students achieving 5 A*-C including English and Maths (60%) was the schools best ever result with 71% of students gaining 5 A*-C; Stephen Casey, headteacher, said: i am immensely proud of our students and the results they have achieved. They are a credit to themselves and their families. i am delighted for those students who achieved a string of grades at A and A*, as well as all those who have worked exceptionally hard to achieve their target grades. Last year the schools results were fantastic but this year we have done even better a testament to the excellent learning partnership between our students, their families and the staff of QPHS. A number of students achieved exceptional results and gained a string of high grades including the core subjects of English, Maths and Science. These included Joel Langmead who gained an outstanding 10 grade A*s and 3As. Venison Casserole with Beer Serves 4
onE of the lovely things about British food are the Seasons. Eating fresh produce in season always seems to taste better and with a game season closed since February there is much to look forward to. All our wonderful game birds, rabbits and venison are now on the menu. The new game season is now underway and one of the true delights of Autumn is our increasingly popular local venison. Superb quality, sourced little more than one mile from the overleigh Roundabout! Venison is high in protein, low in fat and has fewer calories than other red meats. Venison is particularly low in saturated fatty acids and contains higher iron levels than other meats. Summed up, it is an excellent meat which ticks all the boxes and is available from the beginning of october to the end of January. one of my favourite recipes is Venison Casserole with Beer. Enjoy!
Ingredients: 900g diced venison shoulder | 2 tbsp oil | 2 onions, peeled and roughly chopped| 150g piece smoked streaky bacon or pancetta diced | 1 tbsp plain flour| 300ml beef or venison stock | 300ml brown ale| 2 tsp soft light brown sugar | 2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed | 1-2 bay leaves | 2 sprigs of thyme| roasted baby carrots to serve Recipe: 1. Preheat the oven to 130C/Gas Mark 2. Heat 1 tbsp oil and fry the venison in batches for 5-6 mins until browned on all sides, adding a little extra oil as necessary. Transfer to a plate with a slotted spoon to leave the juices. 2. Add onions to the casserole and fry for 2-3 minutes, stirring occcasionally until lightly browned, add the bacon and fry for a further 2 minutes. Return all the meat and any accumulated juices to the pan. Add the garlic then stir in the flour. Gradually stir in the stock and ale, scraping up any juices stuck to the bottom of the pan. Heat, stirring until simmering. 3. Add in the sugar, bay leaves and thyme and season with freshly ground black pepper. Cover the casserole with a tight fitting lid or foil and cook in the oven for at least 2 hours or until the meat is tender. Serve with roasted baby carrots.

THiS is the 8th year that the Westminster Park Residents Association has awarded prizes for the best front garden and container displays. Judging this years Best Front Garden and Container Display competition was, as ever, extremely difficult but great fun. The overall standard of gardens in Westminster Park is excellent and pounding the pavements to view the front gardens was enjoyable and, in many cases, quite inspirational. There are some very talented and green-fingered residents living amongst us. GCSE Delight at The Catholic High

STUDENTS and parents were celebrating the publication of the GCSE examination results at The Catholic High School. Top of the class were Jenny Jones and Amy Sinclair with 9A* grades each, followed closely by Matthew Chesters, Kathleen Devine and Hannah Carter with seven each. The school has been a specialist Science College for nearly ten years, and this year saw a record number of students taking the three sciences of Biology, Chemistry and Physics as separate subjects. Overall 68% of the students achieved passes at A*-C in at least five subjects, while the score including English and Maths was 54%. WESTMiNSTER Park Cricket Club finished off the 2012 season on a positive note with victories in the final three friendly games. in a belter of a game at Cholmondeley Castle, Rob Aldridge recorded his best score for the Parkies (42) who crossed the line off the final ball with two wickets remaining. Cholmondeley CC 183-5, Park 184-8. (40 overs). The penultimate game at Eaton Hall saw Peter Dodd take three wickets as Eaton made 74 all out. Park reached the total with three wickets to spare. in the against Chartridge, a touring team from Buckinghamshire, Park made 131-7 and Chartridge came up short on 112-7 in the gloom. l Park have merged with fellow pitch users Chester Asians and will be looking to recruit for the new year, we will be competing in the Cheshire Alliance league and need players for a second team who can commit to Saturdays and occasional Sundays for the Knockout cup. We are also looking for players for the T20 league and friendlies. All abilities welcome. 2013 will also be the start of our junior section, we have two fully qualified ECB UK2 level coaches and CRB checked volunteers who will form an under11 group, working with the local schools. Our intention is to add age groups as we gain experience and the kids grow. Ladies are also welcome to join, there are a few women playing in the Cheshire Alliance and there are also plenty of womens teams in the area, so if we have enough demand then there is the option to form our own. l Nets sessions start in January.
