Chapter 1 Overview
1.1

Introduction

AN-GSHDSL series is based on ITU-T G.991.2 G.SHDSL suggestion, uses advanced TC-PAM digital modulation and echo cancel technology and so on. Now the AN-GSHDSL series has 2-wire and 4-wire types. It can transmit 6Km on 0.4 mm dia copper cable@ 2.048MKbps in 2-wire; transmit 1.9Km on 0.4 mm dia copper cable@ 5.696Mbps in 2-wire; transmit 4.8Km on 0.4mm dia copper cable@ 2.048Mbps in 4-wire; transmit 1.9Km on 0.4mm dia copper cable@ 11Mbps in 4-wire. This series product has five kinds of DTE interface: E1 port ( AN-GSHDSL-E1 ), Ethernet port ( AN-GSHDSL-ETH ), V.35 port ( AN-GSHDSL-V35 ), V.24 port ( AN-GSHDSL-V24 ) and X.21 port ( AN-GSHDSL-X21). Please refer to Form 5-1 of appendix 1, Chapter 5 in this user manua. And all these devices have stand-alone and card type. AN-GSHDSL series devices can be config by the DIP switch and CLI. And when works with the card type in the HC-COMM chassis, they can also be managed by the HCView NMS from the central side. This manual is only reffer to the stand-alone type device, the card type is similar with it, you can find the details of the card type from the manual of HC-COMM.

1 Connect power supply

21

AN-GSHDSL series user manual

Before connecting the power wire, make sure the power switch is off. Pay attention to the connection of anode and cathode of -48V power.

Note: Note When using 220V AC make sure the FG of the power is
connected correctly; when using -48V DC, connect the FG of the power with the middle pole of the conection end. Do connect the FG wire of the power to your protection ground for the sake of security.

2 Connect the DSL port

Prepare RJ11 plug following Form 5-6 in this manual and insert it into LINE1 port of the back pane. When work in 4-wire model, please prepare another RJ11 connector, and insert into LINE2.

3 Connect the user port

3.2.2 Set the configuration

You should set the device about the local/remote, clock,2/4wire, loop-back and data rate. There is two way to realize this, one is by Dip Switch, while another is by NM (CLI).

3.2.2.1 CLI configuration Set the Bit2 to on of the 12 Bit Dip Switch, then can use CLI to do the configuration. No need to do any setting of the other bit dips of the 12 Bit Dip Switch. If there is a NM chassis (like HC-COMM) at the central side, then can use our NMS HCView to manage the remote device. 3.2.3 Turn on the power

After the preparation, you can turn on the power, set the power switch to 1, when power supply is ok, PWR LED should bright.

3.3

Operation explanation and notice

1 During normal communications, there should be no loopback. 2 When the equipment is running mormally, the PWR indicator
of the front panel is bright.

If the PWR LED is not bright after switch on for a while, please check: The power supply is ok or not. Make sure the power switch turn to 1, not middle If all is ok while the LED is still not bright, please contact with our engineer for solution. 3 After power on, RUN LED should flashe once per 1/4 second
at the beginning, and then flashes regularly about once per second. If PWR indicator is on while RUN indicator is not flashing, possibly theres something wrong with the equipment. Retry
25

AN-GSHDSL series user manual

by powering on and off the equipment several times. If the condition doesnt get better, contact our technical department or dealer.

4 When these above is normal, if the equipment is set as

central office (local side), the LT/NT indicator is on; if the equipment is set as station (remote side), the LT/NT indicator is off.

5 After the equipment is running normally, RUN should flash

steadily once per second, And ACT1 LED should first flash steadily once per 1.5 seconds, then keep on after the equipment is powered up for about one minute. If use 4-wire model, same with ACT2.

Trouble A: If the ACT1, ACT2 LED keep flashing after 3 minutes: Please check the DSL line, the configuration and so on. If all is ok, you can switch the power on and off to try. If the
condition doesnt get better, contact our technical department or dealer.

Trouble B: If the ACT LED can not keep bright: 1. Check the cable is good or not; One device should be set as Local side, while another device should be set as Remote side, check the Bit 1 2. Check whether there is a loopback setting at the either side. Check the Bit3 Bit4, should be OFF. 3. method for checking the line:

26

AN-GSHDSL series user manual

a Short the cable (line) of one side, check the impedance at the other side. When transmit at 2.048Kbps, the impedace should lower than 1000 , if show as , there must be some problem of the line. b Check the twisted-pair cable, whether each cable is connecting with the ground. c If the line is ok, while the ACT is still not show well,
please contact our technical support department or dealer.

6 If the link down offen when it works. Please check: 1. Please make sure the connector is connecting well. 2. Please make sure there is no electromagnetic interference source near the link line (like refrigeratory, air condition and electromotor). The link line should avoid along with Industrial Power Line or other high-power line. Also avoid to use long distance open wire. 3. If the distance is too long, you can use the command below to adjust the DSL lines Preamplifier Gain: Set afetxgain Num(1 Num 31) The default setting of NUM is 13, you can increase the DSL modules Preamplifier Gain by reduce this number. 7 Please don't open the equipments without authorization.

FAQ

Question: Does it work like ADSL to transmit data and voice at the same time?
27

AN-GSHDSL series user manual

Answer: No, G.SHDSL is not like ADSL, the protocol is different, there is no reservation band for the common voice data. If you need the Voice function, you can use our Reusable device to offer the data and voice at the same time, then can use this DSL device to transmit. Question: Do this device need telephone exchange? Answer: No, DSL device does not need the support of telephone exchange. It need one or two twisted-pair cable without connecting with telephone exchange (This means the link line can be measure the direct current impedance, and there is no lowpass device in the link line). There should be no voltage in the link line.

CLI Use in Configuring Serial Port

Connect CONSOLE port of AN-GSHDSL series to RS-232 port of the computer through serial cable (DB9 to RJ45 cable). Run Start->Programs->Accessories->Communications->HyperTerminal, and the configuration of the HyperTerminal is: Rate 9600bps, 8-bit, no parity check, stop bit 1 and no data stream control. When the equipment is started normally, you can use the initialization information of the equipment. See Diagram 4-1.

1. There are 8 rate setting bit on the DIP switch of AN-GSHDSL-ETH 2. In 2 wire mode, the relation between 8 bit rate setting bit and rate is as follow: Rate S Bit5128Bit664Bit732Bit816Bit98

5The setting way of S2 is same with S in form 5-4, except the max rate OFF When move DIP to OFF , the bit is 1 ; When move DIP ON switch to ON , the bit is 0 3. In 4 wire mode, the rate is integral multiple of 128 Kbps, if not, should deduct 64 Kbps to count the rate 4. In 2 wire mode: The max rate can be setting is 5,696kbps 64kbps =64kbps89,packet size is 64kbps 64kbps89 In 4 wire mode: The max rate can be setting is 11,392kbps 128kbps =128kbps89, packet size is 128kbpsBit12 is no 128kbps89 using 5. If the rate setting of DIP switch is more than the max rate of device, the device will work as the max rate of this device. 55Refer to form 5-4 and 5-5 for details.
