What is the standard deviation? http://easycalculation.com/statistics/standard-deviation.php 47.5 10.74832 b. Create a frequency distribution table for denomination. I used excel to create the table

c. What is the percentage of people who identify themselves as Baptist in this sample? 15% d. What is the mode of church attendance? Nothing to calculate Mode is simply the most frequently occurring value in a frequency distribution. 5 2. The results of a recent survey indicate that the average new car costs $23,000, with a standard deviation of $3,500. The price of cars is normally distributed. a. What is a Z score for a car with a price of $ 33,000? http://www.danielsoper.com/statcalc3/calc.aspx?id=22 2.85714286 b. What is a Z score for a car with a price of $30,000? http://www.danielsoper.com/statcalc3/calc.aspx?id=22 2.0 c. At what percentile rank is a car that sold for $30,000? http://www.measuringusability.com/pcalcz.php

3. In one elementary school, 200 students are tested on the subject of Math and English. The table below shows the mean and standard deviation for each subject. Mean SD Math 67 9.58 English 78 12.45 One students Math score was 70 and the same individuals English score was 84. On which exam did the student do better? http://easycalculation.com/statistics/z-scorestandard.php Calculate the z-score for each and compare Zmath = .3132 Zenglish = .4819 So when you compare the zscores the one cloest to 0 is best therefore the student did better on the Math exam. 4. Suppose you administered an anxiety test to a large sample of people and obtained normally distributed scores with a mean of 45 and standard deviation of 4. Do not use web-calculator to answer the following questions. Instead, you need to use the Z distribution table in Appendix A in Jacksons book. a. If Andrew scored 45 on this test. What is his Z score? 0 b. If Anna scored 30 on this test. What is her Z score? I could not figure this one out based on the table. However because we know it is less than the mean we know that the Z score would be negative. To calculate the z score would be -3.75 c. If Bills Z score was 1.5, what is his real score on this test? 42 .5000+.43319 =.93319 .93319*45=41.99355 rounded to 42 d. There are 200 students in a sample. How many of these students will have scores that fall under the score of 41? http://www.danielsoper.com/statcalc3/calc.aspx?id=22 Z=-1 Looking at the chart .15866 1-.15866=.8413 .8413*200=168.268 168 students will fall on or under the 41

5. The table below shows Psychology exam scores, Statistics Exam scores, and IQ scores for a random sample of students. What can you observe in the relationship between IQ and psychology, psychology and statistics, and IQ and statistics? Using a web-calculator, obtain the Pearsons r and coefficient of determination for the following relationships. http://easycalculation.com/statistics/r-squared.php a. Between the IQ and psychology scores r = 0.59231 r2 = 0.35084 b. Between the IQ and statistics scores r = 0.73667 r2 = 0.54268 c. Between the psychology scores and statistics scores. r = 0.71050 r2 = 0.50480

Student number 101 102 103 104 105 106 107 108 109 110

IQ 142 100 103 121 120 115 101 109 111 115

Psychology 49 30 36 44 35 47 37 45 30 49

Statistics 49 32 38 41 42 43 35 47 43 46

In general when looking at the IQ and psychology scores in general the higher the IQ score the higher the psychology score. This is also true in general for the IQ to statistics scores. However looking at the psychology to statistic scores in general the number are similar with two exceptions. 6. In a study on caffeine and stress, college students indicated how many cups of coffee they drink per day and their current stress level on a scale of 1 to 10. The table shows the survey results. Using a web-calculator, obtain the appropriate correlation coefficients. http://easycalculation.com/statistics/correlation.php
