ACTIVITY 2 The table below shows the length of time in minutes per day for a number of students doing revision for two subjects: Statistic and Calculus. Statistic 32 26 Calculus 20 24 26 29 (a) 30 25 20 28 23 16 30 25 18 28 22 14 29 24 17 27 21 11 28 23 10 24 18 10 37 32 7 24 18 8

What type of data is presented in the table?

The length of time in minutes per day for a number of students doing revision for two subjects: Statistic and Calculus. (b) (c) How many students are doing revision? ___18_____ Use Open office Calc to complete the following table:

Median Mode Mean Variance Standard deviation (c)

Statistic 25 20 24.06 59.94 7.74

Calculus 22.5 24 20.61 43.19 6.57

Which distribution is more feasible? Explain.

Calculus, because the standard deviation of calculus is lower then standard deviation shown that pupils do revision in calculus is more balance. (d) If the length of time for each student doing revision is increased by 5 minutes, what will happen to the median, mode, mean and variance? If increased by 5 minutes:Median will change,Mode will change,Mean will change.Variance will non change

Activity 3 (a) Using the data for doing revision on statistic from Activity 1, create histogram, polygon curve and ogive using OpenOffice calc. Histogram n polygon curve

(b) Create two questions for the purpose of investigating some mathematical ideas about Activity 1. b.1 What is the most popular mode in previous registration? b.2 Which mode had the most diffences between previous registration and 09/10/01 registration? Activity 4 The two tables present data for two research: Research 1 and 2.

The first table shows the wake-up time and academic performance of 8 children. The second table shows the academic performance of two group of students. The first group is taking the test in a room with temperature of 250C and the other group in a room with temperature 0f 300C. A B C D E F G H Wake-up time 11 9 9 12 7 10 10 8 250C room 17 19 16 12 17 18 15 16 academic performance 24 36 32 22 38 22 30 30 300C room 12 10 14 15 13 12 11 13

(a)

What can you say about the type of both researches. First table shows wake-up time with academic performance The second table shows the academic performance with diffecent room temperature What type of variables involve in both researches? Table 1:Academic perfomance and wake-up time Table 2:Academic perfomance and room temperature What type of data involve in both researches? Academic performance How do you analyze each set of data? Use spreadsheet to build graph.

(b)

(c) (d) (e)

What conclusion can you claim from both researches. Pupils can skor higher in 25'c room temperature. Pupils than sleep more can perform better compare pupis that sleep less in academic field. Activity 5

Get some real life data about some phenomena, example population growth, income of popular stars, number of linux users according to countries, and number of schools according to states. Manipulate the data using Open Office and make analysis on the results.

There are two kinds of statistics, the kind you look up, and the kind you make up. Rex Stout
