Introduction In todays readings we hear that even the most righteous among us are tempted by the sin of envy

or jealousy. The prophets at the time of Moses, and Jesus disciples, too, are envious of the spiritual gifts God has given others, jealous of their positions. Envy is one of the capital sins and the only one that isnt any fun at all! Weve all experienced it at one time or another. Today let us pray to rise above our jealousy and genuinely pray for the well-being of those we are tempted to envy.

Stewardship Treasure Sunday Offering last week: Poor Box:

$4,318.00 $238.00

Weekly Stewardship Thought In a life committed to stewardship, we are called to possess lightly. Jesus taught about the dangers of clutching to material possessions and pointed to the real treasures available to us in life. Reflection Question Todays readings remind us that the genuine needs of Gods people need to be served. Are we taking stewardship seriously? Are we making ourselves responsible for the needs of our family, friends and neighbours? Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place at St. Patricks Church on Thursday evenings from 7:30 8:30 p.m. Please consider taking some time out to participate in this devotion.

Welcome! This weekend we are happy to welcome Maia Jane Fay, daughter of James Alexander and Marie Louise, and Lucas Caetano Amaral, son of Carlos and Patricia and baby brother for Sophia and Mateus, in the sacrament of Baptism. Please remember these children and their families in your prayers. Altar Servers Parents, encourage your children to take an active part in our Sunday worship by becoming an altar server. Youths from Grades 4 12 and beyond are welcomed in this ministry. Through it, boys and girls become more familiar with the Mass and its meaning. It also gives them a sense of being an integral part of the community. Registration forms are available in the Sacristy. Jerry On Thursday, September 27 at 7:30 p.m. about 150 parishioners and friends gathered together to remember Fr. Jerome J. Kroetsch, CR, former Pastor of St. Patricks Church. Bishop Kurtz was the main celebrant with all the resident Island priests concelebrating. Thank you to Bruce Fox who filled the church with music and to the many past and present choir members who filled the choir pews. Soloists Deborah Raat and Bob Di Giacomo contributed beautifully to the ceremony. Thanks also go to the parishioner who was the Lector, the family that carried up the gifts and those who served at the altar. It was Fr. Jerrys wish that donations in his memory be made to the Resurrection Manor to assist retired and elderly priests and Special Donation envelopes are available for your contribution. Please drop the envelope in the collection basket this weekend with your offering. Thank you for your kindness and with our love and prayers, may Fr. Jerry truly rest in peace. The 13 Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops will bring bishops from all over the world to Rome from October 7 October 28, 2012, to discuss the theme of The New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith. The gathering coincides with the launch of Pope Benedicts Year of Faith, which will begin on October 11. The Synod of Bishops is a permanent institution established by Pope Paul VI on September 15, 1965, in response to the desire of the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council to keep alive the positive spirit engendered by the conciliar experience. Literally speaking the word snyod, derived from two Greek words syn meaning together and hodos meaning road or way means a coming together. A Synod is a religious meeting or assembly at which bishops gathered around and, with the Holy Father, have the opportunity to interact with each other and to share information and experiences, in the common pursuit of pastoral solutions which have a universal validity and application. The Synod, generally speaking, can be defined as an assembly of bishops representing the Catholic episcopate, having the task of helping the Pope in the governing of the universal Church by rendering their counsel. The working document for the Synod is divided into a preface, introduction, four chapters, and a conclusion and was the product of consultations with the worldwide Church over a period of a year. --The first chapter appeals to men and women of good will to embrace the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of the mystery of God revealed in Jesus Christ. --The second chapter works to facilitate discussion on what the New Evangelization actually is and the challenges it faces today.
th

--Chapter three deals with Transmitting the Faith and outlines the need for personal holiness on the part of Catholics. It is hoped that the Year of Faith will be a pressing appeal to conversion so that, transformed by grace, each individual Christian and each community may produce abundant fruits. --The fourth and final chapter focuses on the first proclamation (of the Gospel), Christian initiation and education while seeking to adapt them to current cultural and social circumstances. These discussions will also include a means to better understand the sequence of the Sacraments of Christian initiation, which culminates in the Eucharist.
