EAST JORDAN It didnt
take the Ramblers long to es-
tablish that they were there to
take care of business as they
scored on their first five pos-
sessions for a 36-0 halftime
lead, as they defeated the Red
Devils 43-0 on September 28.
With the victory, Boyne im-
proves to 6-0 overall, 3-0 con-
ference and clinched the
Ramblers first playoff berth
since the 2009 season. Boyne
City is tied with Grayling in
the Lake Michigan Confer-
ence.
Boyne scored on their open-
ing drive of the game as Ja-
mael Kelly scooted 16 yards
down the left sideline for a
touchdown and a 7-0 Boyne
City lead.
After holding East Jordan to
three and out, Boyne wasted
little time as freshman Malik
Smith took the third play of
the drive and exploded up the
middle for a 17-yard score.
I think the kids came out
and executed really well in the
beginning of the game,
Boyne City coach David Hills
said. We had a couple of real
nice drives to start and put
some points on the board, I
was real proud of the kids exe-
cution wise and their focus in
taking control of the game
right off the bat.
Bradley Fouchia added an-
other rushing touchdown at
the 9:47 mark of the second
quarter, and on the following
Rambler possession, Corey
Redman found a wide-open
Maceo Vroman for a 39-yard
scoring strike and a 28-0
Boyne City lead.
Fouchia closed out the first
half scoring on a 35-yard zig-
zagging run for a 36-0 halftime
cushion, and Conner Mills
closed out the scoring with a 6-
yard run.
Austin Gardner finished 5-
of-5 on extra point attempts.
Leading the Boyne City
ground game was Smith with
91 yards on 13 carries and a
TD, Fouchia rushed seven
times for 72 yards and two
scores, Kelly gained 54 yards
and a TD on five carries and
Mills gained 35 yards on six at-
tempts and a score.
Redman finished 3-of-6 pass-
ing for 55 yards and a TD. He
also added a two-point conver-
sion toss to Connor Beebe
after taking a high snap on the
Ramblers final TD of the first
half.
Defensively for Boyne, Max
Cuper recorded nine tackles,
Alan Manross finished with
seven and Fouchia added six.
All in all, I thought it was a
real good performance by our
kids, Hills noted.

improved to 20-7-4 overall, 8-1 in
the Lake Michigan Conference
with a 25-13, 25-21, 25-20 over the
Kalkaska Blazers on September
27.
The Ramblers were playing
without their top hitter (Kylie
Hick) due to an injury.
Tonight was a good win for
our team, Boyne City coach
Casie Parker said. It was nice to
see some of our other players
step up.
Heather Nichols and Rainy
McCune finished with 18 digs
apiece, while Nichols added 24
assists to lead Boyne.
Paige Hornbeck and Mary
Myers finished with nine and six
kills respectively.
Erin Baker, Hornbeck, Mc-
Cune and Myers all served at 100
percent in the contest.
Paige did a great job hitting
outside tonight, while Rainy and
Heather did a nice job passing,
Parker noted.
Rayders go 1-3 at
Morley-Stanwood
Invitational
MORLEY -- Madeline Boss
had 28 kills and 15 digs in lead-
ing the Charlevoix High School
volleyball team to a 1-3 finish
Saturday at the Morley-Stan-
wood Invitational.
Charlevoix's record stands at
12-12-5 overall.
The Rayders fell to defending
state champion Morely-Stan-
wood 20-25, 18-25, then re-
bounded against Cedar Springs
25-15, 25-18; lost to Detroit Cass
Tech 20-25, 11-25; and Franken-
muth 11-25, 20-25.
"This was a great tourna-
ment with some very talented
and tough teams," Rayders
coach Audra Randall said.
"That's exactly what we needed
to prepare ourselves for the
second half of our season. We
made it to the quarterfinals of
this very difficult tournament,
we had many quality matches
throughout the day."
Also for Charlevoix; Karley
Pearsall finished with 28 digs,
16 kills and eight blocks; Gloria
Greene recorded 41 assists and
eight digs; Jennaca Holecheck
had 22 digs; and Katie Paramo
added 11 digs.
"Our bench was not very deep
due to injuries to setter Cassidy
Peebles and Jessica Paramo who
share responsibilities at that po-
sition," Randall said. "We
adapted quickly to a 5-1 rotation
with sophomore Gloria Greene
at the helm and she demon-
strated poise and control
through this change. I give her a
lot of credit under so much pres-
sure to perform. This was a team
effort, every girl had court time
and grew in a positive way from
this experience.
Charlevoix focused
in win over Grayling
GRAYLING The Rayders
traveled to the home of the
Vikings and were determined
to bring back a Lake Michigan
Conference victory and they

I enjoyed how the girls had
intensity, and they showed that
immediately, Rayder coach
Audra Randall said. They are
becoming mentally stronger
with each match they play.
I enjoyed how the girls had
an intensity and how they
showed that immediately. They
are becoming mentally
stronger with each match they
play. We are headed to Morley
Stanwood for the Volleyball In-
vitational where we will match
up with Morley Stanwood in
the opening match. Last year
Morley beat them in the final 4
match at Class C state finals.
They will also see other down-
state teams they would not play
up in northern michigan.
Lancers battle till

We started out to slow again
tonight, and we have really been
concentrating on getting our
spiking coverage better and the
girls are started to pick up more

CARSON CITY -- Charlevoix

Carson City Cross Country Invi-
tational. She finished in 18 min-
utes, 11 seconds, leading
Charlevoix to a 12th-place finish.
"Amber ran a great race and
did not take the lead until almost
the two-mile mark and then she
opened up a lead of 37 seconds
over runner-up Rachel Sema of
St. Louis," Charlevoix coach
Mary Plude said. "Amber's time
was the second fastest of the
day."
Julia Bos -- the defending Divi-
sion I state champion from
Grand Rapids Christian -- fin-
ished first overall in 17:37.
Also earning a medal for the
Charlevoix girls was Caroline
Boss, who finished in 20:50 and
was 26th overall.

August," Plude said.

Cassidy Bonar, who broke both
bones in her shin during the race
at the two-and-a-half mile mark,"
Plude said. "Cassidy is a senior
and was the solid fourth runner
on the team. We will really miss
her strong presence in practice
and in the races. The team will
have to rise up and come together
to solidify the middle of the
pack."

son Buday led the Rayders with a
23rd place finish in 17:23.

Plude said. "This was a great
place to have a breakthrough

The new Ford Explorer will
come with a cup of coffee for
customers who opt for an inno-
vative new Lane Keeping Sys-
tem that can warn drivers if it
detects they are getting too tired
to drive. Fords will innovative
Lane Keeping System with
three unique features designed
to help drivers stay in control
behind the wheel, including a
Driver Alert System that can
notify drivers if it detects signs
of drowsiness. In this case, a
coffee cup light will appear on
the dashboard instrument clus-
ter to suggest the driver take a
break.
The Explorer is loaded with
new innovations, including this
new lane keeping technology
that helps drivers stay in con-
trol of their vehicle if they drift
out of their lane or show signs
of drowsiness, says Raj Nair,
vice president, Engineering,
Ford Global Product Develop-
ment.
The system uses a small for-
ward-facing camera mounted
on the windshield behind the
rearview mirror, and is able to
identify lane markings on both
sides of the vehicle. When the
vehicle is on the move, the cam-
era looks at the road ahead and
predicts where the vehicle
should be positioned relative to
the lane markings.
Our engineering teams
tested this technology for thou-
sands of miles in many parts of
the country to help ensure it
performs on a wide range of
roads with different lane mark-
ings, said Michael Kane, vehi-
cle engineering supervisor for
Driver Assistance Technologies
for Ford, who helped develop
the technologies.
The Lane Keeping System is
designed to help the driver
avoid leaving his or her lane un-
intentionally. This new technol-
ogy consists of the Driver Alert
System, Lane Keeping Alert and
Lane Keeping Aid.
The Driver Alert System is
designed to help alert drowsy
drivers by monitoring the vehi-
cles movement compared to
lane markings that are tracked
by a camera mounted on the
windshield. If the system de-
tects a driving pattern consis-
tent with a drowsy driver, a
first-level chime will sound and
a coffee cup warning will ap-
pear on the dashboard instru-
ment cluster to recommend the
driver take a break.
If the driver does not re-
spond to this alert and the sys-
tem continues to sense the
driver is fatigued, another
warning and chime will be is-
sued. Drivers can monitor their
condition on the dashboard at
any time, even without receiv-
ing warnings. If they approach
the yellow warning range, they
should rest as soon as possible.
All information is reset as
soon as the driver stops and ei-
ther opens the door or turns off
the engine. More than 40 per-
cent of Americans say they
have fallen asleep or nodded off
while driving, according to a
survey conducted by the AAA
Foundation for Traffic Safety.
The Lane Keeping Alert is de-
signed to help drivers avoid un-
intentional lane changes. When
the system detects the vehicle
drifting close to lane markings,
it will alert the driver through a
vibration in the steering wheel
to naturally direct the drivers
attention to where it is re-
quired.
Lane Keeping Aid takes this
technology even further by pro-
viding steering torque to alert
the driver of the need to steer
back toward the center of the
lane. The system calculates the
amount of steering required
based on factors such as the dis-
tance to the lane markings, yaw
angle and curve radius deter-
mined from the front camera
and other sensors in the vehicle.
The sensitivity of the setting
can be adjusted between normal
and increased, which moves the
warning zones in closer to the
center of the lane. The intensity
of the steering wheel vibrations
can be adjusted as well between
low, medium and high. The last-
known setting for each selection
is stored so it does not have to
be set each time the system is
activated.
The system features must be
turned on by the driver, and will
stay on unless the driver turns
them off. The customer chooses
which feature is preferred:
alert, aid or both. The systems
work both day and night with
low-beam headlights.

Former Boyne Falls Ski & Bike Shop building
offers a host of possibilities
By Jim akans
Put the imagination into
overdrive, because this
beautiful Boyne Falls
block building, which was
the former site of a Ski
and Bike Shop, offers a
host of possibilities.
The structure has ap-
proximately 1,500 square
feet of space, and that in-
cludes four rooms with
baths that make this build-
ing suitable for private liv-
ing quarters, or
potentially as rental space.
The space is heated by hot
water baseboard system
fed by natural gas. Other
features include cathedral
style ceilings, a full base-
ment and a rolled roofing
system.
Outdoors views feature
a gorgeous panorama of
nearby Boyne Mountain.
The property also includes
a 30 x 40 foot pole barn
with an attached 15 x 20
foot garage. Storage is cer-
tainly not an issue here!

Selling your
house is a very time
consuming task;
however, knowing
what to focus on
during your prepa-
ration can save you
time and effort. The
key to an advanta-
geous sale is prepa-
ration. Below are
some helpful tips on
preparing your
home, so that you
hopefully get a
quick sale and a good price.
Stand in front of your house and
look at it; this is the first glimpse of
your house a visitor is going to see.
Try and be open minded, don't look at
it with good memories, look objec-
tively as a buyer will. If you can't be
objective then ask a friend or col-
league to give you an impartial opin-
ion.
First impressions are important to
make sure you play this to your advan-
tage. If you have a lawn at the front of
the home, make sure it is cut down,
the edges are trimmed and it looks
good. Place potted flowers near the
doors to make a feature of them, any
weeds need to be disposed of, rubbish
picked up, children's toys put away
and any mess from animals cleaned
up. Furthermore, do not forget to look
at all the walkways, walls, and patios
for cracks and crumbling. Use this as
a chance to fix or replace those faults,
not only on the exterior but the inte-
rior as well; don't forget the roof and
drains. Just by repainting the door,
cleaning the windows and washing
down the exterior can improve the
look of your house.
Make the rooms of your house look
more spacious and brighter by taking
out clutter and making sure the rooms
are clean. Family photos and other
personal items need to be stored be-
fore the buyer arrives, as they can be
quite distracting. One more important
task is to rearrange closets and
kitchen cabinets. Be sure that all your
light bulbs are bright enough so that
the home does not seem too dim.
Let the viewer enter a room first, in-
troduce them to the room but avoid
telling them what the room may be
used for; let them make up their own
mind. It is extremely important to
make sure the whole property is clean
and tidy; this also means you have to
spend time cleaning items such as the
cooker and refrigerator. Switch off ap-
pliances, particularly if they make a
noise when they are running; there is
nothing more disturbing than a con-
stant buzzing sound when you are try-
ing to imagine living in a new home. A
few fresh flowers in a nice vase or
some potpourri is a great way to light
up a room and make it smell fresh as
well. Rather than have items left on
kitchen tops, put them away in a cup-
board, especially those that are not
used often. You want to show the
buyer how pretty and big the kitchen
is so they can imagine themselves
cooking in there.
Don't forget about the windows, not
only do you want to make sure they
are not dirty, but you also have to
make sure they are in good working
condition with no damage in the glass.
You should pay special attention to the
bathroom; make sure that it is not
dirty, replace the toilet seat and
shower curtain, and put out fresh tow-
els every day. It may also be a good
idea to give your home a new coat of
paint in a neutral color. And don't for-
get the basic truth - not only luxury
homes can have luxurious appear-
ance.

Reader Advisory: the National
Trade Association we belong
to has purchased some classi-
fieds in our paper. Determining
the value of their service or
product is advised by this pub-
lication. In order to avoid mis-
understandings, some
advertisers do not offer em-
ployment but rather supply the
readers with manuals, directo-
ries and other materials de-
signed to help their clients
establish mail order selling
and other businesses at
home. Under NO circum-
stance should you send any
money in advance or give the
client your checking, license
ID, or credit card numbers.
Also beware of ads that claim
to guarantee loans regardless
of credit and note that if a
credit repair company does
business only over the phone
its illegal to request any
money before delivering its
service. All funds are based in
US dollars. 800 numbers may
or may not reach Canada.
