Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world Nelson Mandela
Inspired by a chance meeting in Africa, old friends Louise Seligman (Chairman Breadline Africa) and Claire Brisby (Helwel Trust Event Director) vowed to combine efforts to further the common good of the impressive work of the UK registered charities they had each been supporting for many years. Endorsed by an enthusiastic committee, their initiative won the patronage of Dr. Geoffrey de Jager, Trustee of the Rhodes University Trust UK, who has recently been awarded an honorary doctorate in recognition of his contribution to developing opportunities in education for South Africans.

Breadline Africa
www.breadlineafrica.org.uk Charity Reg. No. 1075525 Seeks out partnerships of hope and growth in Southern Africa by connecting those who are struggling with basic living conditions with those who are more fortunate. Breadline Africa believes that a strong educational system is crucial to the future of South Africa. We support projects in deprived urban and rural areas that will supplement and improve the current educational structures particularly in the fields of Early Childhood Development and Skills Training for young people. Breadline Africa also converts old shipping containers into desperately needed soup kitchens, classrooms and libraries for schools.

Helwel Trust
www.helweltrust.co.uk Charity Reg. No. 271713 Helwel (Health and Welfare) Trust addresses the needs of those affected by poverty through unemployment and AIDS in KwaZuluNatal and is committed to developing individual resourcefulness and collective enterprise through education. Helwel's partnership with TREE (Training and Resources for Early Education) enables the training of pre-school teachers chosen from group leaders in remote communities and the provision of teaching aids and educational toys. Qualified trained teachers generate government funding for furthering education classes and promoting collective social skills for advantaging children, parents and carers alike, leading to the greater benefit of the local community.
