TeamLuby Update Week of October 8, 2012 Spring Street School Mrs.

Lubys class

I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend with the mixed bag of weather we are having! Rockman (aka Mr. Luby) will visit our classrooms on Thursday to discuss rocks and minerals with the children. Math Stars and Math Olympiad begins on Friday; children will be notified early this if they are participating in the first round of sessions outside or in the classroom. Any more Stars or Olympiad volunteers out there? Children who are thinking of running for Student Council must check in with their intentions by Thursday. They also must submit the parent form. Speeches will be presented Friday in class. ALL PERSUASIVE essays are due on Thursday typed or neatly written! *Genre Bingo! Check with your childare they reading each night!? Many children are ready to yell, BINGO! in class! *Media on Wednesday

Language Arts Each guided reading group has met and will be working on a variety of comprehension strategies in their first

book together including important information, questioning, and making predictions. Whole group stories include stories from many cultures. Grammar conventions include verbs and predicates. Wed. Writing

We will continue with persuasive writing using strong leads and reasons. Math Factors, multiplies, multiplication and division facts will be our focus. Children need to continue to practice on the web, in the car, or walking down the street! If your child has mastered through the 9s tables, focus on the 11s and 12s! (12x12 = 144 that is gross!)
EVERYDAY MATH FAMILY LETTERS can be found on-line this year! As in past years, they contain unit vocabulary, activities, and selected homework answers.
