Comic Writers Bloc After a little over 12 issues Jim Lee has left the Justice League to another DC-related title. Rumors have been circulating that both writer Scott Snyder and Jim Lee will be teaming up for Superman: Man of Steel as the movie of the same name approaches next summer. Variant Covers, Deviant Behavior Variant comics were a hot topic as retailers charged over cover price for the first 30 days of a comics release. Retailers created opportunities of greed with this type of deviant behavior. The first comic with multiple covers was 1989s DC Comics Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight which was a sales success. Marvel Comics followed suit the following year with Spider-Man by Todd McFarlane in 1990 and again with Rob Liefelds X-Force, and Jim Lees X-Men. The encouraging sales only reinforced the fact that variant covers increased sales. Publishers get a boost for a particular comic which has a variant cover. Even second printings encourage collectors to complete their collections. However the multiple printings have also encouraged price gauging by retailers who want to hedge their variant covers with their regular sales. They will sell a variant comic with a price of $2.99 with 1:10 ratio for $29.99. The variant will cover the cost of the unsold comics without the variant putting the retailer into the black.
