Heriot-Watt University Soars in Latest Rankings of Academic Quality and Student Satisfaction

eriot-Watt University has again strengthened its claim to being one of the top universities in the world by its recent selection as the best university in Scotland in 2012. Now in its eighth year, the National Student Survey (NSS) measures 23 core criteria of the student experience across over 120 universities and higher education institutions in the United Kingdom.

Principal and Vice-Chancellor of HWU, Professor Steve Chapman, said of the excellent results: "Being Scottish University of the Year, number one in UK for student experience and voted number one in Scotland by students is a fantastic hat-trick. Established in 1821, Heriot-Watt University specialises in subjects in technology, engineering, business and design. It is ranked in the top 5% of universities worldwide. HWU has four campuses in Scotland and Dubai, with a new campus under construction in Malaysia.

As reported on the BBC News website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/ukscotland-edinburgh-east-fife19743025), the NSS 2012 results has rated HWU as the Number 1 university in Scotland (up from Number 3 last year) and Number 4 university in UK (up from Number 29 last year). At the same time, The Sunday Times University Guide 2012/13 named Heriot-Watt as Scottish University of the Year (for the second year running) and the UK University of the Year for student experience.
