The U.S. Naval Academy and the city of Annapolis is celebrating the Navy’s 237th birthday with events and Navy birthday specials throughout downtown Annapolis this week.

Select businesses from the Annapolis Business Association will offer Navy-themed birthday discounts and specials from Oct. 10-14 at stores on Maryland Avenue, Main Street and along West Street’s Gallery Row in historic downtown Annapolis.

Flyers announcing the businesses participating in the birthday celebration are available at the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau, the Naval Academy Visitors Center and at select locations downtown.

USNA GARDEN CLUB

The Garden Club will meet Oct. 16 at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church Parish House, 1601 Pleasant Plains Road. Social time starts at 9:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 10 a.m. Horticulturalist Eric Wittman, will speak on native plants of Maryland and give advice on ornamental invasive plant management and deer- resistant plantings. MWR KICKBOXING

MWR Fitness offers Cardio-Kickboxing classes Mon- days and Wednesdays through November 14. Classes are held in the Gymnasium of the MWR Recreation Services Bldg. #89, NSA Annapolis from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Cost is $3 per class, free for active duty and active reservist. No advance registration is needed. Sign up and pay for each class at the MWR Customer Service Desk in Bldg. #89 prior to the class. Call 410-293-9200 for more information.
