THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

I want to begin by making you aware of a unique ministry opportunity. We have various needs amongst our elderly that find themselves to be homebound. For some, they have no family nearby who can assist them while for others they need to be able to go and run errands while someone sits with their loved one. Such is the case of Norma Jean George. She and Ed have gone through many life changes over the past several months. Norma is looking for someone who can help sit with Ed while she goes to do a few errands around town. If you can help, please call her. Or you can call the church office and we will get you in contact with her. 2 Corinthians 1:4 saysHe comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. Those who have been blessed can bless others in return. Wow! What a concept to live by. Thank you for considering this need. Now on to a different consideration. For the one who is testing me with the fall festival candy on my doorknob, I want you to know I have not opened the bag. Yet! Hannah warned you! In His Service, Brad

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

NOVEMBER ACTIVITY: Watch this spot for an announcement! SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY: The theme, this week (10/14), comes from II Corinthians 3:7-18 and it is The Wonder Of It All (II Cor. 3:1-6). On October 21 the theme is Dont Lose Heart (II Corinthians 4:1-18). If you are not involved in a small group, on Sunday evenings, I encourage you to join us. Communion is available for those who desire. Also, remember that we now have activities for children each Sunday evening. WEDNESDAYS: This week (October 17) classes will resume at the regular times, 10:00 AM and 6:30 PM. We are looking at The Church Through The Ages. Why not join us for these sessions? FINAL THOUGHT: The truest measure of a man is found somewhere between the opinion of his mother and the opinion of his mother-in-law.

SCOTTS THOUGHTS
When was the last time you were just awed by God? When did you last find yourself overwhelmed by his majesty, his transcendence, or his amazing love? We often sing songs declaring all of these things, and scripture is filled with reflections of the attributes of God, yet sometimes we allow a disconnect to develop. We are aware of these characteristics in an intellectual sense, but are hard pressed to move beyond that intellectual level. Sometimes we have a tendency to move through worship without taking time to worship, to be moved by prayer or a passage of scripture, a song or a prompting of the divine, into a moment of intimacy where we see some aspect of God in a new light and are brought to our knees. If it has been a while since you found yourself awestruck by who God is and what He is doing in your life, stop what you are doing and find time to see what He is doing. He desires your adoration, He deserves your praise. Genuine worship is not an exercise of intellect or participation in specific activities but a surrender of self to be overwhelmed by God. Lord help us to slow down and take time to truly meet with you, fall facedown and worship. Last week in Childrens Church we learned about Thankfulness. The kids listed what they were thankful for, from BBQ chicken to friends and family. While listening to what these young kids are thankful for, it reminded me that as adults we sometimes forget to thank God for the small things in life. Throughout this Holiday season let us remember to be thankful for the big and the little things that God blesses us with every day. I am very thankful for everyone here and all you have done for me! Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, His love endures forever. Psalms 136:1 **A basket will be at the Kid Zone from now until the Fall Festival on October 27th, so drop off any candy Donations there. Thank you! Also, Anyone that would like to help out by volunteering for the Fall Festival please see me! Hannah

Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:

Sermon Notes ________________________

Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
