Service Description:
Add a Dell | EMC Disk Array Enclosure into an existing Solution

Service Overview

This Service provides for the basic design, installation and implementation of a single Dell | EMC² Disk Array
Enclosure (DAE) as additional storage into an existing Dell | EMC² or Dell PowerVault™ solution (the “Service”
or “Services”) as set forth in this Service Description. Planning and implementation support (Project
Management) for standard deployments is included in this Service. This Service is applicable to Dell | EMC²
SAN/DAS or Dell PowerVault™ SAN/DAS or solutions only and is not available for EMC² SAN/DAS sold (non-
Dell) solutions.

This Service will be provided during the hours of 8:00am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday, excluding
holidays, unless other arrangements have been made through the project manager.

This Service Description provides only an overview of the service steps and customer responsibilities.

Not included with this Service:

• De-installation or re-installation of product(s) or application(s) or any activity not specifically mentioned


herein.
• Reconfiguration, re-implementation or reallocation of LUNs on existing hosts.
• Storage configuration consultation, performance tuning, system optimization or other similar services.
• Installing cables external to the rack.

Customer's Responsibilities:

• Complete a backup of all existing data and programs on affected storage systems prior to Dell
arriving at the location to deliver this service. Dell will have no liability for loss or recovery of
data or programs.
• Ensure the storage solution is at least at the minimum supported revision levels for hardware, software
and firmware per the requirements defined in the EMC² Support Matrix. If an upgrade is required, the
customer must ensure this is completed prior to the commencement of this service.
• Place the storage product in the immediate area of the rack or server into which it will be installed.
• Ensure that the required power outlets and Power Distribution Units (PDUs) are installed and
functional.
• Dispose of the packing material and other debris.

Key Service Steps:

• Design
1 Review Pre-Site Configuration Survey technical information requirements and obtain the technical
configuration information from the customer.
2 Verify that the existing hosts meet the minimum hardware and software requirements.

3 Create/modify the Design Document:
a) Define the storage allocation:
• RAID/Storage groups.
• Server Assignments.
b) Define the Dell | EMC² switch configurations (SAN).
c) Define/confirm that the configuration meets the minimum hardware and software requirements
for the environment.
• Planning
1 Review this document with the customer to ensure the understanding of the scope of work.
2 Review the Site Checklist (environmental and technical readiness requirements).
3 Confirm readiness review and installation dates and highlight stringent dependencies on complete
customer site readiness and product ship dates to meet the planned installation schedule.
4 Review, accept, and abide by the terms and conditions set forth in this Service Description.
• Implementation and Testing
1 Install the storage array components:
a) Unpack and inspect all hardware prior to installation.
b) Mount any necessary rack related hardware into the Dell supported rack.
c) Mount the storage array components into the racks.
d) Install and route all power and interconnect cables to the storage components.
e) Attach any management ports to the customer provided network drops.
f) Label all the cables.
g) Power on and ensure that all the hardware comes up and there are no fault indicators.
2 Configure the Switches (SAN) and create Storage Zones as per the Design Document.
3 Configure the storage, as per the Design Document:
a) Create RAID groups.
b) Create Logical Units (LUNs).
c) Create Storage Groups.
d) Assign LUNs to Storage Groups.
4 Configure the hosts.
a) Configure/Zone host ports to the switch fabrics (SAN).
b) Assign hosts to their appropriate Storage Groups.
5 Verify host to LUN connectivity.
a) Partition and format the LUNs, as per the Design Document.
b) If host is an approved Dell NAS Host, create shares/exports as per the Design Document.
• Product Awareness
1 Conduct a brief product orientation session and review the associated documentation. This
overview does not replace any available customer education courses for this product.
2 Demonstrate the failover capability of the SAN.
• Project Closeout
1 Update the existing as deployed documentation to reflect changes/additions to the solution’s
configuration.
2 Obtain customer sign off acceptance.
