BULLY AWARENESS MONTH

This month is bully awareness and here at South Canton Scholars we are taking this matter very seriously. We have been talking to students about bullying and had in class activities that discuss bullying behavior and the difference between mean behavior and bullying. We will NOT TOLERATE any bullying of any kind to ANYONE, including adults in the building. This is a matter that we do not take lightly and we ask that you speak with your students at home about their actions and words or things they say both positively and negatively that can affect others in the building. Thank you.

Math with Mr. Vantiem

This past week in Math, we have been working with integers with the students in course two. In the course three, we have been focusing on graphing ordered pairs on the coordinate plane. We have had MEAP this week so there hasn't been much instruction time or homework. I want to make sure that the kids can concentrate almost strictly on the MEAP and being prepared. Students are encouraged to bring something to read or do after they finish MEAP.

Language Arts with Ms. Textor

This past week students have had the opportunity to begin Media Monday! They were able to discuss the characters in the show and infer what they think about those characters. Students received a weekly assignment on Monday and they have one week to complete it. The class has continued to work on their narrative writing piece within the limits of the setting and characters of the story. We will continue building our characters next week. Towards the end of the week the classes have begun their first in class novel together, The Hunger Games. Students worked together in their book club groups to understand more about the book before we begin reading next week. Next week, the classes will begin reading chapter one. Students are allowed to bring books in if they own their own set. There will be a spelling and vocabulary test at the end of the week. I Can Compose the setting and characters in my narrative fictional writing. Evaluate the authors perspective on the books they have published

October: Respect
This month we are moving from wisdom, and are focusing on Respect for this months moral focus. We have talked to the students about what respect means to them and asked them real life situational questions that make them use critical thinking skills to solve moral dilemmas. All while finding a respectful way to problem solve. We encourage talking to your students about the importance of respect and how they can use in in their lives daily.
