OBJECTIVES To design a power supply that produces the desired output voltage for the amplifier. To produce a DC voltage for the amplifier. To amplify a small signal from devices like a portable radio, music players, iPod, cellphone, etc. To design a class AB power amplifier with a 50 Watts load together with a two preamplifier. To differentiate the pre-amplifier and power amplifier and its functions.

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION Our prototype project in Electronics 2 laboratory was to design a power amplifier with an output power of 50 Watts. Power supply is needed to produce output voltage for the amplifier to be used. The project needs a class AB power amplifier with two pre-amplifier. A preamplifier is an electronic amplifier that prepares a small electrical signal for further amplification or processing. The preamplifier is the first stage of an instrument amplifier. In general, the function of a preamplifier is to amplify a low-level signal to line-level. In this project, the transistor amplifier used is a common-emitter amplifier. Two common-emitter amplifiers are used as a preamplifier. Class AB amplifier is used in the 3rd stage of the circuit. Class AB amplifiers have better efficiency and poorer fidelity than class A amplifiers. They are used when the output signal need not be a complete reproduction of the input signal, but both positive and negative portions of the input signal must be available at the output. Class AB amplifiers are usually defined as amplifiers operating between class A and class B because class A amplifiers operate on 100% of input signal and class B amplifiers operate on 50% of the input signal. Class AB amplifiers operate between these two classes.

Lastly, push-pull amplifier is used to avoid cross-over distortion of the signal to be amplified. It is composed of two MOSFET. It has N-channel and the other P-channel.

ANALYSIS Our project aims to design an amplifier with output power of 50 Watts and also a power supply to be used by the amplifier. The first thing that we did was to plan the things that should be done in designing the prototype. We design a power supply circuit that is giving an output voltage of 20V which will be used by the amplifier. This took a little time to do because power supply was made in electronics 1 laboratory and we are now familiar in designing a single output voltage. Then designing the amplifier, we used the software multisim to simulate the design to be made with output power of 50 Watts. We decided to search for an amplifier with two pre-amplifier and a class AB power amplifier. We used a common-emitter bipolar junction transistor as preamplifier. It is mainly because it gives a high gain in the circuit. We are able to get an output voltage of 50 Watts using an 8 resistor as a load of the circuit. After designing the amplifier using a simulation software, we did the design of the amplifier in the bread board, battery is our voltage source since it gives a DC voltage. We did connect batteries in series to add voltage. At first, the sound was very weak. After several checking of connections, we make sure that it has the

right connections from our schematic diagram. The sound became better and louder. The design is to be placed in a PCB board, we used PCB wizard to rearrange the circuit that will fit in a PCB board. The new diagram is printed in acetate. And used UV to print the circuit in the acetate to the PCB board, after putting the components of our amplifier, the amplifier did not produce a single sound. We repeat making the schematic diagram in the PCB wizard do the same process. After doing the amplifier we were satisfied on the outcome of this project. We were able to understand more about amplifiers. We can say that this is a success. Everyone contributed in our group from designing, putting the components in the bread board and PCB board, buying the materials and all.
