ROUTE TO &BEYOND SOSSUSVLEI DESERT LODGE From Windhoek to Sossusvlei Desert Lodge Leave Windhoek on the main tar road heading south to Rehoboth, Mariental, Keetmanshoop and South Africa. After 85 km you reach Rehoboth. Drive through the town staying on the main road. There is a good petrol station on the left hand side to fill up and buy water and food. The next gas station is only in Sesriem, near the lodge. A few km past Rehoboth turn right at the first signposted turn-off to Klein Aub. The tar road becomes a very good, wide, gravel road within a hundred metres. After about 58km drive through the very small village of Kobos. After about 38km drive through a very small village called Klein Aub. After about 29km drive through a very small village called Rietoog. Turn onto the D1206 and follow signs to Naukluft National Park. After about 28km you will reach a T-junction after going over a bridge. Turn left at the junction. This road takes you immediately past a sign on the left hand side advertising Bullspoort Guest Farm. A few metres after the Bullspoort sign you will see a turn-off on the right, to Naukluft National Park. Take this road. The next 70km needs to be handled with care. There are numerous dips in the road where small rivers cross from left to right, and some of them are quite sharp. You will drive past signs to farms including Neu Onis, which makes bottled water. After you have travelled those 70 km you will come to a T-junction. A Little Sossus Lodge is on the corner. Turn left here onto the C19. Drive for about 5 km. Turn right onto the D845. Drive for about 13km. Turn left onto the C27. Drive for about 8 kilometres. After about 8 kilometres you will see the entrance gate for Sossusvlei Desert Lodge. Turn right through the gate and travel straight through a four way junction over a hill and you are at the lodge.

The total distance is about 340km. It should take between 5 and 5.5 hours to drive. Speeds in excess of 100km/hour are not advisable. Always carry drinking water in the car when traveling in Namibia. When meeting approaching vehicles always get as far to the left as possible and slow down, to avoid windscreen damage from flying stones.

From Sossusvlei Desert Lodge to Windhoek Drive through the Lodge gates and turn left onto the C27. Drive for 8km. When you reach the T-Junction turn right onto the D845. Drive for 13km. Turn left onto the C19 and drive for 5km. Turn right at A Little Sossus Lodge onto the D854 and drive for 70km. Be careful in the dips. Turn left at the T-junction and you will immediately see the entrance sign for Bullspoort on your right. Immediately after the Bullspoort entry turn right onto the D1206. Drive 28km to Rietoog. Drive 29km to Klein Aub. Drive 38km to Kobos. Drive 58km to Rehoboth. When you reach the T-Junction south of Rehoboth where the tar begins, turn left. Drive through Rehoboth. Petrol and food available here. Drive 87 km to Windhoek on the tar.
