I take an empty paint bottle and wash out old paint completely, add 80 drops of Color Float and fill with water. This way it is always handy when I need it.

Wh e n e ver y ou b l e nd two col o rs t o g e t h e r or bl e nd t he e dg e s of fl o at s , fo l l o w t his pro c e d ur e . 1. Apply a thin coat of blending mixture to the area where you want to float or blend two colors together. 2. Pick up the color you are going to use on a clean brush and apply this on the same area to which you applied the blending medium. You can float it or lightly dab it on. 3. Blend this using a dry, Dry Brush by gently tapping the edge of the paint, softening it into the base color. 4. Sometimes I pick up a tiny amount of the blending mixture on the Dry Brush, blotting on a paper towel to extend the blending time, and then pick up the paint color. 5. Always make sure that you dry your work between each step before going on to the next application of Blending Mixture. Glaz ing A glaze is a transparent application of washes, which are laid on in successive layers over dry paint. It is much like laying layers of colored tissue paper on top of one another. Each glaze changes the earlier ones, and the result is a rich, transparent glowing look. The reason for this is that a glaze, being transparent allows light to pass through it and be reflected back off the underlying color. The colors combine optically in the viewers eye and take on a resonance impossible to achieve by mixing them physically on the palette. When using the Shining Feather Soft Glo Glazes, do not thin them. Dry thoroughly in between each application. Ba s e C o at When I need to paint a light area on a dark background I always use Gesso to base this before applying the color I want in this area. This makes it so much easier to cover the dark paint. How I use my brushes Angle Brush: Floating Chisel Blender: Base coating and glazing Script Liner: Lines and delicate details (always thin the paint with water when using this brush)

Bristle Brush: Blending and scumbling (dont wet this brush while using, if you need to clean, wipe it gently across a baby wipe to remove the paint, if it gets wet it will not work) P r e p a ra t i o n 1. Paint the background with Blue Lagoon as you move towards the center add a bit of white and slip slap this on so there is a bit of texture. Keep the edges darker. 2. Transfer on your pattern for the words with white transfer paper 3. Paint them with a script liner using White Paint with a touch of Blue Lagoon. 4. Apply the rest of the pattern. 5. Apply a coat of Gesso to the pattern and let dry. Brush 1. Base the metal ferrule of the brush with Hippo Grey. Dry. 2. Apply blending mixture and Float a shadow on the right side with Fjord Blue, blending the edges. 3. Float a thin line of this color on the left side of the ferrule. 4. Add dark lines in between the metal rings with the script liner and Fjord Blue. Dry. 5. Add my blending mixture and float the highlight on the left side with Soft Grey, soften the edges of this color into the base color pulling it slightly around the ferrule. 6. Add the shiny reflected highlights with the script liner, using Soft Grey. 7. Float a reflected light over the shadow side of the ferrule with Bahama Purple. 8. Base the wood handle with Western Sunset Yellow. Dry 9. Apply my blending mixture and float Burnt Sienna on the right side, blend this slightly around the handle. 10. Float a thin line of this on the left side. Dry. 11. Apply blending mixture, paint a line of Mellow Yellow next to this line, and blend the edges, this is the final highlight. 12. Base the bristle area with Burnt Sienna, dry. 13. Using the script liner, paint very thin lines on the bristles using colors in this order: 1. Golden Brown, paint over whole area.

2. Crocus Yellow, paint this the way around, starting on the left side. 3. Mellow yellow; keep this mostly on the left side. Dry. 4. Apply a glaze of Sunrise Yellow over this. Fl o w e rs Add my blending mixture between each step except for application of glazes. 1. Base petals with Peony Pink 2. Float shadows between petals and in the center with Magenta, blending edges. Dry 3. Float highlight on edges with Rose Petal Pink ato White. 4. Deepen the shadows with a glaze of Primrose Purple. Apply 2 applications drying in between. 5. Using a #4 dry, Dry Brush, dip the tip of the brush into Pretty Pink, remove excess on paper towel. Pull this color lightly from the inside of each petal toward the tips. Do not pull all the way to the tips. This is called scumbling. 6. Paint the veins in with Fuchsia 7. Paint stamens using the 20/0 script Liner, in this order: 1. Cinnamon 2. Roman Stucco 3. Custard L e aves a nd s t e m s Add my blending mixture between each step except for application of glazes. 1. 2. 3. 4. Base with Kelly Green. Float first highlights on with Light Foliage green.
