ASIAN COOPERATION DIALOGUE

Representatives of 32 Asian nations have issued a joint pledge to work for the progress of Asia and its inhabitants at the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) in Kuwait City. We are called upon to increase our cooperation in vital areas elated to sustainable development in every field; economic, commercial, financial, cultural, technological, environmental as well as health; population and other fields of cooperation that contribute to the progress of our countries and the prosperity of our people, the Kuwait Declaration released by the ACD said.

The 23-page plan, endorsed by the Cabinet last week, aims at high growth rate and promotion of good governance, while helping people reap benefits, a statement issued by the Prime Ministers Office (PMO) said. The plan set out clear-cut mandates, timelines and measuring rods to achieve its goals.

Cambodia's former King Norodom Sihanouk - a revered figure in his country - has died aged 89, BBC reported today. He died of a heart attack in Chinas capital, Beijing. Sihanouk came to the throne in 1941 and led Cambodia to independence from France in 1953.

Cambodia's long-standing friendship with China will be "strengthened and broadened", Foreign Minister Hor Namhong was quoted as saying Thursday. Xinhua News Agency said Hor Namhong made the remarks after a onehour meeting with Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo, who accompanied the late King Father's coffin to Phnom Penh on Thursday.
