Greetings, As you see, this issue is way behind schedule. My full time job doing security for G4s has kept me extremely busy. This will also be a rather light issue, and for that I apologize. I am in the process of developing new classes for next year, and hope to offer a greater variety of training, especially those who live in the west valley region and find it difficult to attend training in other locations.

New classes under development

Three years ago I came home from doing security operations overseas to build a business teaching people how to protect and defend themselves both with firearms and their God given brains. I started out with the old Arizona state CCW class and began to make inroads, adding NRA Basic Pistol, Intro to Defensive Handgun, Intro to the AK, and Intro to the Defensive Shotgun to my schools curriculum. Even with Constitutional Carry on the books, many people still request the CCW class. The legal knowledge is vital, and a lot of folks have figured out that just having a CCW has tremendous benefits. I am revamping that class so as to still teach the necessary legal knowledge as well as give the student more trigger time. So far many of my tactical weapons classes have been intro level to give those folks who desire this knowledge an affordable way to get the basic skill sets and then graduate to advanced classes or continue training on their own. I will continue to do that. The following shooting classes are under development and will be offered in the next years curriculum: 1. Intro to the M-1 Garand= This class will teach new Garand owners the important ins and outs of this classic rifle, including proper disassembly, maintenance and zeroing. Students will zero their rifle and confirm at longer ranges. 2. Intro to the AR Rifle System= Although I personally prefer the AK platform, many Americans choose the AR platform (AR-15, M-16, M-4 ect.) as their personal defense rifle due to former military experience or a desire to have compatibility with military and police units. I have been carrying and using them from Viet-Nam through Afghanistan and this class will show the AR owner the ins and outs of maintenance, selection of accessories, combat loading and reduction of malfunctions. The student will zero their rifles and confirm at longer ranges. Based on the State Department class given to State Department field agents and contractors who guard embassies overseas. 3. Fundamentals of Low Light Level Shooting.= Since a large percentage of home invasion and individual attack scenarios happen at night, it sort of makes sense to learn how to shot in very low light levels. This will be an evening class. The following are non-shooting seminars and will be conducted in a classroom environment. They may or may not be given at Joe Foss Range. Dates and locations will be sent to those on our e-mail list as well as being posted on our website. 1. Surviving the Active Shooter= You see it now in the headlines almost daily. Some psychotic shooter walks into a school, church, place of business or public gathering and begins randomly killing people. They dont stop until they run out of victims, ammunition or are killed or kill themselves. Lear how to have the best odds of survival if you or your loved ones get caught up in a situation like this! Using your personal firearm in this type of situation may NOT be the best choice. 2. Personal Security In and Out of the Home: Owning a firearms and qualifying for a CCW are great starts in a personal protection program. But there is a LOT more. The idea is to reduce the likelihood of ever having to use a weapon to begin with. This class will show you how to maximize the security of you home and the proper mental attitude necessary to avoid criminal attacks and violent confrontations.

Book Review: The Tactical Advantage Gabriel Suarez ISBN 13:978-0-87364-975-9

Gabriel Suarez is one of the foremost firearms and tactical instructors in the Western World. I have reviewed his material in the past and I cannot recommend his works more highly. This book is a must read and is appropriate for beginning shooters, home defenders, Law Enforcement and Military personnel. He starts with discussing the tactical mindset and then moves on to such subjects as Basic Tactical Principles, various methods of searching a building, Extreme Close Quarters, Shooting on the Move, Reduced Light Operations and so much more. Shooting Fundamentals: One hand and off hand shooting

It is human nature to believe that really bad things only happen to the other guy, but never us. This is even reflected in many peoples training. Many shooters only concentrate on two handed defensive shooting techniques. But have you ever considered what would happen if you broke your strong side arm? Or were wounded in your strong side arm? Or what if you have to hold an infant while defending yourself? Besides two handed strong side technique there are two others you also need to work with. 1. Strong side one handed shooting: This would be a right handed shooter shooting one handed with the right hand. This would be required if your weak side hand was holding something or was wounded. 2. Weak side one hand shooting: If you are a right handed shooter and your right arm is out of action for any reason, you need to be able to carry on with your left hand alone. I recommend that any serious defensive pistol shooter spend at least 10% of their training both dry and live fire using their strong hand one handed and their weak hand one handed. It just might save your life.

Parting Shot: You need to start talking

November 3rd, 2012 is going to be a turning point in the history of the United States of America. If Barack Obama is reelected President, you individual rights are going to be in great danger. And not just those under the Second Amendment. If you know anyone who is undecided, you need to start talking to them now! The Liberty you save will be your own!
