DISCRIMINATION This is a controversial topic to talk about. Firstly, let me begin by defining what discrimination is.

I believe it is the unfair or negative treatment of someone based on sex (in the house or at work) or race (your skin color). Historically, Spanish society has been essentially sexist. In the days of my grandmother, women could not work outside the house. They were seen as xxaxx baby making machines and they were in charge of domestic household tasks such as cooking and cleaning. In some cases, they suffered domestic violence but they didnt have legal support. DIVORCE WAS UNHEARD OF AND IF A COUPLE HAD ASKED FOR A DIVORCE OTHERS WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THEY WERE SINNERS.Nowadays, WOMEN work outside the house but still they dont have the same opportunities as men with regard to getTING promoted. In the most important companies almost all the directors are men. For that reason, women normally earn less money than men DO. Women still suffer domestic violence, but now there is a law to combat this problem and social centers for the assistance of victims. In reference to racial discrimination, I have to say that our country had a fascist dictatorship until thirty years ago. Spanish people used to be white, catholic SPANISH SPEAKING and baptized AND ALL HAD CRISTIAN NAMES and most of the population hadnt grown up in a mixed society. Maybe that is the reason why we have witnessed racist behaviors on TV, for example, of football fans towards Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, and even the Spanish coach, Luis Aragons, towards the black player Thierry Henri. Although now there are many immigrants in Spain and their children have been born here, they are not integrated yet. At school, they sit and play together. When they want to work, they cant aspire to the same jobs as white people. The Spanish Government should increase the immigrant integration policy through civic participation and training to work. Barack Obama is a clear example of how a black man can triumph and hold the highest office in the world. In conclusion, I would like to say that discrimination in the house, at work, at school due to your sex or race is a human rights violation. Women and men shouldnt be treated differently because of their gender. Wherever you were born and whatever the color of your skin IS; you have the right to be treated fairly.WE KILL 2 BIRDS WITH ONE STONE.WE REALLY CAN GET THE BEST PERSON INTO EACH JOB AND WE ELIMINATE HATE AND FEAR FROM OUR SOCIETY.
