Euthanasia should it be made legal in the UK?

Discuss, supporting your points with religious teachings

On one hand I partly agree with euthanasia (good death or mercy killing). I agree that people have prochoice, meaning that they have their own rights to decide on their choices, and unless it involves anyone else, it is your choice alone. Supporting people for euthanasia are a company named EXIT. These are a company supporting those who wish for euthanasia. As part of being humans, everyone has their own rights, and if someone wishes to be helped to die, then it is their choice, and their rights. Another point is that you should have a good quality of life, and when the quality of it gets low/bad, then life should be ended, so people can remember your life as a good quality. Many people also agree because they say that you should be allowed to die in a dignified way, which people would say that euthanasia helps you die with dignity. Dignity plays a huge part in religious and non-religious peoples lives, and therefore dying with dignity is the right belief for many people. Many people state that mercy killing is a much better way for someone to die, as it is better for the patient, but also relieves relatives from unnecessary strain, anxiety and stress. My last reason for euthanasia is why should we not treat humans the same as animals? eg. We put animals out if their misery. This means that people think that if we are in pain then we should be helped to die, just like animals are. However, on the other hand, I partly disagree with euthanasia as it can be seen and classed as murder and one of the Christian beliefs is thou shall not murder (exodus 20:12) (sixth commandment). People are prolife, which means that they are for life, and there for, it should not be ended until it is naturally ended. A company supporting people against euthanasia are named pro-life alliance, who completely disagrees with euthanasia. I agree with the sanctity of life (you only live once, so cherish, protect and value it whilst you can.) I also believe that many people agree to euthanasia, however, what if a cure was found. Why die? A cure might be found and you could become better and everyone would be much happier than you just revolving to death. Another point is that hospices (hospital for the dying) offer palliative care (relieving pain without curing, helping patients to die with respect). Therefore, if you have no pain in your last weeks/months, why end it now; why not just hang on to the end. Hospices have three main aims; physical care eg, giving morphine to patients with cancer, spiritual care eg, going to see a priest and emotional/psychological care eg, unfinished business with family members. Elderly people can feel pressure, and if they here relatives or nurses moaning, they might just say they want euthanasia because they feel under pressure. Many elderly people feel pressure; therefore, agreeing to euthanasia might not actually be what they want. As I said earlier, euthanasia is murder I and I alone, am godI kill and I give life. (Deuteronomy 32:39).

Overall I think that euthanasia should stay illegal, as when many people wish to be dead, they may latter on reflect and realise it is a bad idea, and if they could, regret it. Many people should learn to live with the condition or illness they have as agreeing to euthanasia helps no one other than you. Euthanasia is also murder, and committing murder is not the right thing to do, especially in a religious persons life. I understand some of the reasons for people wanting to be dead; however, euthanasia is a selfish and easy way to not have to deal with anyone or anything. Also, people say that you should have a good death, but death can never be a good thing, however, a Christian belief is death is an event in life, not the end of life.
