MHSAA soccer districts

Theres just a special feeling in the air when the high school football playoffs roll around. This season, six Downriver teams made the playoff grade and all of them will begin the postseason with games on Friday night. In an allDownriver League Division 2 region, Truman will host Allen Park and Woodhaven will host Roosevelt. Truman, Roosevelt and Woodhaven are all 8-1 this season and league tri-champs. Elsewhere, Grosse Ile will host Harper Woods Chandler Park and Cabrini will travel to River Rouge. There is much more playoff football information on our website, www.MiPrepZone. com.

Allen Parks Sabrina Williams is just a junior, but already the Jaguar star has won three NewsHerald Cross Country Invitational titles. Up next for the Jag runner and all the states harriers is regionals. Most of Downrivers teams will run Saturday at Lake Erie Metropark at regional events hosted by Woodhaven. In one of the most dominating double-overtime games imaginable, InterCity claimed yet another district championship on Friday with a 1-0 victory over Plymouth Christian. The score was the only thing close about this game as the Chargers outshot Plymouth Christian 17-0. They really just packed it in, Inter-City Baptist Coach Mark Kraatz said. They had the ball in our end for maybe five minutes in the first half and it was probably less than a minute in the second half. Despite dominating the time of possession, the Chargers were blanked through regulation and the first overtime. Inter-City finally got on the board five minutes into the second overtime when Travis Miles provided a nice crossing pass to Evan Kraatz, who promptly headed the ball into the back of the Plymouth Christian net for the games only goal.
