Welcome to OSC and the 2012-2013 school year! The Physical Education teacher for Pre-school to grade 4 will be Kelly Fenton. Sue Turner will be teaching all swimming lessons Pre-school to grade 5, as well as grade 5 Physical Education. Children in Pre-school to grade 1 have one PE lesson and one swimming lesson per week. Children in grades 2-5 have two PE lessons and one swimming lesson per week. Students will be participating in a wide variety of activities throughout the year. The PE department works closely with classroom teachers to integrate the Units of Inquiry whenever possible. During our lessons we focus on the PYP learner profile traits. We expect all students to take risks, cooperate, play fair, care for one another, and reflect on their learning. It is essential that children come to school prepared for PE/Swim classes as this will allow them to be successful. Please see the chart below for what is expected on PE/Swim days. In order to maximize our contact time please send your child to school in their PE kit with a spare change of clothing for after the lesson. If your child is unable to participate at any time, please send them with a letter of explanation. We look forward to meeting all of you! Best Regards, Kelly Fenton & Sue Turner
Hat Please ensure your child brings a hat to school every day. This is a Primary School policy and also essential during PE lessons when we are outside on the field. Water Bottle All children should bring a sport bottle to school on PE days. Lesson locations vary and there will be times when water fountains are not close by. Please send a full water bottle to school to ensure your child gets enough to drink after an active lesson in the heat. Sunscreen Please apply sunscreen on PE/swim days before coming to school. The sun is hot and intense in Colombo and we want to be sure to be protected!
Silicone Swim Caps Swim caps are optional. Children with long hair need to have it tied back.
Goggles Children need to be able to open their eyes under water. If they need goggles for this please ensure that they bring their own. Snorkel masks are not acceptable.
