Is there a Quick Start for how to emulate a CompactLogix or ControlLogix controller? In the RSLinx software, complete the following steps to configure a driver: 1. Open RSLinx. The path to the software is: Start, Programs Files, Rockwell Software, RSLinx 2. Configure the Virtual Backplane driver: a. Select Communications. b. Select Configure Drivers. c. Under Available Drivers, select the VirtualBackplane(SoftLogixt58xx) driver. d. Select Add New. It should display running. 3. Configure an RSEmulator Controller: a. Open the RSLogix Emulate 5000 Chassis Monitor. b. Create a controller in any slot other than 0. If there is another RSLinx module in slot 1, if you want it to disappear, you can go to Services and stop RSLinx Enterprise from running. 4. Once a controller is in a slot, open up the CompactLogix or ControlLogix program. 5. Make the following selections: a. Select Edit. b. Select Controller Properties. c. Select Change Controller. d. Select the Emulator Controller Type as follows: Select Emulator RSLogix Emulate 5000 Controller Revision. This should be the same version as the version of the emulator chassis. Select OK. Refer to the next topic, Potential Issues if Original CompactLogix Project Changed to RSLogix Emulate 5000 Controller, for additional information. 6. Download the project to the controller as follows: a. Select Communications. b. Select Who Active. c. Select Drill down to the AB_VBP-1. d. Select 1789-A17/A Virtual Chassis driver. e. Select the controller. f. Select Download. Potential Issues if Original CompactLogix Project Is Changed to RSLogix Emulate 5000 If the original project was created for CompactLogix, if changed to an RSLogix Emulate 5000 Controller, then the 1769 I/O will be cleared from the application. If the project will no longer verify because of this: Try to reinsert similar 1756 I/O modules using the same names and slot locations. The Generic Module may also work if no close match exists. This is done simply to recreate the module-defined tags that the application logic might reference. Since the RSLogix Emulate 5000 Controller doesn't have real world I/O control, inhibit all the modules in the I/O Configuration list. IMPORTANT! Mini-Edition or Lite-Edition cannot be used. The Emulator controller and SoftLogix controller is not displayed at all.
