Alhamdulillah, praise to Allah, for giving me an opportunities to breath in this world until now and an opportunities to complete this task within the time given.

To En. Ahmad Masdil Fazli b. Mohamed, thank you so much for your guidance and all your supports since our first class in this semester. Without you, I can not do this task. You always give me moral support in every aspect either mentally or physically support. You always be with me when I really need you.

Thank you once again, you always tolerant and always be patient with me when dealing with me especially in class during academic lesson.

To my class members, thank you so much for your co-operation. Without you this task cannot be finished on time. Even though I am facing a lot of difficulties and have to submit all assignments but I am still can finished this task on time. Thank you again. All your kindness along finishing this task and work together will be remembered.

PREFACE

The English Language Proficiency 1 Programme aims to build on students current language skills for a variety purposes. This task is a practical activity to measure students ability to apply their knowledge and skills they acquire during lectures and classroom activities to enhance their English language proficiency.

NARRATIVE ESSAY

Syukri was born in a poor family. His father was runaway from his family since Syukri was three years old. He is the only one of his mothers child. His mother had a farm at the back of their house. Every school holidays, Syukri always help his mother on the farm. On the farm, his mom planted tomatoes, chillies, corn, beans, and usually a few other crops on the farm.

As his house was far away from the one and only village primary school, it has been decided that he stayed in the school dormitory. So during school holidays, it will be an exciting journey to go home and spend his holiday by helping his mother on the farm. He also can eat his moms cook when he stays at home.

After he studied for six years in his primary school, he continued his studies at the boarding school. This was because he got 5As in his UPSR examination. His mother was really happy with the result. He got offer to further his studies at Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK). His mother spended almost all of her savings to buy Syukri the new clothes, books, and all the requirement that Syukri needs.

He was a study hard student at the school for a several years. Along with the effort, he use to remind himself to strive for the best and remember the promised that had been made in front of his mother that he will become a doctor. Thats why he always focus in his studies. Although he was busy in his studies, he did not forget his mother. Every time, after solat, he always recited a prayer to God to take care of his mother.

From form one until form three, he used to study smart in studies. He got number one in his class every year. All the teachers in MCKK predicted that Syukri will get 8As in his PMR examination. After the PMR result out, he was very happy because he got 8As and he was also nominated as the best student in his school.

Because of the good result in PMR, he were offered a scholarship from Petronas. Syukri was very excited because he will not be a burden to his mother anymore to give him pocket money. He also hope that the scholarship will help his family to support their life.

When he was in form five, he studied more hardly because in that year, he will sitting for a very important examination which is the SPM examination. But, Syukri did not know one thing. Actually, Syukri did not realised that his mother suffered a brain cancer. But, his mother acts like she did not have any disease when Syukri come back home.

One day, when he was doing his afternoon preparation class, he had an emergency called from hospital. They said that his mother was in ICU. Syukri was very shocked. After that, he quickly ask the permission to go to the hospital to visit his mother. His counselor took him to the hospital.

But, when he arrived at the hospital, the doctor said that his mother was passed away just now. He was totally sad with the news. His counselor asked Syukri to calm down. He said that all human will die one day.

Syukri, life must go on. You must look forward and concentrate on your study. Focus in your SPM and get a very good result for your mother, his counselor said.

Although Syukri still sad, he was study very hard to achieve what he had aiming for. God will help for those who help himself. Syukri created a new record for his school. He got 15As in his SPM result. All of the teachers and also the students were very proud of him.

Because of the great result in SPM, Syukri was offered a scholarship from JPA to further his studies at Japan. He took medical course in the University of Osaka. It was because he wants to fulfill his mothers hopes.

He graduated after six years. He was the first doctor from his humble village. During his convocation ceremony, he stood proud with the rest of his graduating classmates. The memory of his mother made him smile. He touched his mortar board. Tears of joy welled up in his eyes.
