here is little doubt in my mind that the Uru, and also the Aboriginal tribes with which they shared the Blue Mountains, had more than one contact with advanced beings from a super-civilisation somewhere in our Universe. The mystery ancient astronaut rock art in this district certainly suggests that. The style does not appear Aboriginal but Uruan. Near Katoomba in recent years I have made a number of megalithic stone arrangement discoveries. One of these is a stone alignment erected on a north-south axis and 45m in length. The ironstone slabs used in the erection of this alignment extend along a ridge that, although now covered in trees and shrubbery, was once bare and offered a clear view of the heavens. However, what makes this rather short stone alignment unique is the massive ironstone slab that once stood upright at the alignments centre, which is engraved on its south face with dozens of letterings, numerical symbols, human and other images, identified as a form of Uruan script used around 8000 to 4000 BP [Before Present]. If there were engravings on the north face these now lie buried. The stones situation and its great weight would make re-erection impossible. It measures 3.6m in length by 2.54m in width and is at least 40cm in thickness. It must weigh at least 4 tonnes. The often-faded glyphs took me almost a whole day to record on paper, chalk in and photograph. It has taken me 28 years to finally crack the translation of the Uru script, and although my research in this regard is far from complete, for the past several years I have been able to finally read the sometimeslengthy rock inscriptions left by this people. The Katoomba stele has revealed yet further evidence of the remarkable astronomical knowledge of the Uru, knowledge of life on other worlds in space, and contacts by beings from beyond our Earth. The inscription, which appears divided into six sections, reads from the top down: Set 1. The planet Mohala 9 million people live there. It is the abode of 2 moons radiating for the god of millions. Set 2. Hail the beings of light of the planet Mohala, who with its two moons lies 300 time periods from our planet [Uru] within the great constellation of the serpent [Nim], from where tailed stars come. Temples stand upon its surface. Their flying craft have come from there to our world twice, from the abyss of space, where the people are great and live there in happiness, calculating the Suns movements over their land for reasons of its fertility. From this site the planets orbit has been measured to a distance of 300 time periods from us. Mohala and ours [Uru] are two worlds alike. From the abyss of space a Travelling tailed star will strike us in the first year of the Third Age. The Gods will come to show the way, to protect our planet. Praise Nim the Sun of millions, the Serpent of Light, praise him. From their world to ours, from the sky to our planet to embrace and save millions. The body approaching our planet from above will break and shatter the land and great numbers of people destroyed in both hemispheres. This will occur in the Third Age as recorded on this stone.

of space, whose lightning he hurls into its abyss. This land is the abode of Ga-na. At this enclosure A-I* and the Earth Mother Nif mate to fertilise the Universe, so that millions on many worlds will survive together. The Suns rays of light travel from one planet to the other in the constellation of the Serpent, which envelopes the earth [Uru] fertilizing all. Praise the great land of the Sun-Serpent, Nim, protected always by Ga-na. Set 6. When the Serpent Sun mounts this stone the earth is renewed. King Wa-ga is the protector of this land, the land of the Suns rays, the abode of the Serpent who journeys across the land sleeps within his altar enclosed within the abyss of space, at this he is worshipped as Nim. The land of Uru demands offerings for its enlightenment which it radiates throughout the earth. This is the place of A-I our creator. From this stone Nims eye crosses the land, its rivers and settlements. This the Serpent Nim has done for countless ages enriching the watery earth. When he journeys to the Underworld I-na protects him. The great god Nim demands offerings in return for his rays of sunlight, with which he fertilizes, as does A-i whose radiating power enlightens Man. The tailed stars are Nims sign. The Suns rays from his eye cover the four seasons. Make serpent sacrifices to the Uru, behold the Sons of Light, of the two planets, Uru and Mohala!

[*A-I, another spelling of Aea, the Supreme Being of the Uru] Let us now take a closer look at this lengthy inscription. Passing reference is made at the inscriptions beginning to the planet Mohala with its 9 million inhabitants and 2 moons. But where was the planet Mohala? The second set of inscriptions describes this planet. It resembles Earth and is situated 300 time periods away from our planet [which the Uruans called Uru their name also for Australia]. It lies with the great constellation of the serpent [the Milky Way]. It is from here that tailed stars come an obvious reference to comets and asteroids. The reference to temples standing on its surface could be interpreted as large buildings, dwellings etc, structures with which the Uru were unfamiliar. How could they have known this? Had visitors from Mohala already taken Uruans home to their planet and returned them here to pass on the many wonders they had seen? The inscription states that Mohalan spacecraft have come to Earth twice, and the reference to their calculating their Suns movements seems to be a reference to their astronomical activities. It is stated in the 3rd set that Mohala lies 300 time periods from Earth. The third set also states that a travelling tailed star, ie an asteroid, will strike the Earth in the first year of the Third Age. When was the Third Age, or is this event yet to happen? In any case the Gods will come to show the way, to protect our planet as the fourth set of inscriptions states. These are obviously the Mohalans, is it they who are depicted in the mysterious ancient astronaut rock art that is engraved upon cliffs at Katoomba? The prophesy of the Katoomba stele is the most startling discovery made by the author of the Uru on the Blue Mountains to date, if not elsewhere in Australia, or in New Zealand where Heather and I have found their rock script in great profusion. The Katoomba rock inscriptions and artworks demonstrate to us that the Uruan civilisation had been greatly influenced by the heavens from earliest times, and this led them to their erection of extensive megalithic structures, employed in their advanced astronomical studies. That at some stage visitors from

beyond our Earth had landed and spent some considerable time here, time in which they greatly influenced the Uru, seems certain. The thought arises: if, as the Katoomba stele suggests, visitors from the planet Mohala have been here in the past, could they have returned since then and, are other intelligences continuing to do so today? ***** The rock art depicting strange mechanical devices, flying craft, wheeled vehicles and robotic type images and humanoid figures in strange garments at the Katoomba sites describes considerable activity going on hereabouts. A lunar module-type airship is featured in one set of engravings, a small jet plane-type craft in another, even a much larger mother ship from which all the vehicular and other equipment may have come. It is all suggestive of a colony established hereabouts. If this Earthbase One Blue Mountains colony was established in the Katoomba area, what was its purpose? Exploration in small aircraft would have been carried out, the collection of specimens of our flora and fauna on a grand scale seems likely. Had they been searching for precious metals they would have had to search elsewhere, such as to the west of the Blue Mountains. It therefore seems likely that this was a central base from which expeditions were dispatched to widely scattered areas. If this central base has not already been completely covered by modern housing, it may be possible to locate it eventually. It is also not impossible, even very likely that other bases were established in Australia, hence the concentration of rock art similar to that at Katoomba at various localities across the continent. Yet, according to the Katoomba stele, the planet Mohala lies 300 time periods from our Earth, a measurement yet to be worked out. If, as is suspected, the Mohalans, like other super-civilisations in the Universe are able to manipulate time and space, employing windows in time to visit Earth, or any other planet for that matter, then they could conceivably move from one time zone to another and back again the same way, thus visits to Earth might take months, weeks, days [or even minutes?] by our standards, rather than the many generations argued by space scientists. In modern times, as in the past, the Blue Mountains, particularly the Katoomba district, and the valleys to its west and south, namely the Megalong, Jamieson and Burragorang respectively, have been the scene of considerable UFO activity: particularly the south-western side of Katoomba, where for an area covering many kilometres in width and height extra-terrestrial craft have on many occasions been observed to appear from out of nowhere, disappearing in the same way. This great window in time seems the only explanation for a number of mysterious, even eerie encounters some people have claimed to have experienced with scenes from the past, and which we shall investigate later. And if there is such a Window in Time near Katoomba, and if these advanced beings are able to manipulate time and come and go as they wish, could they be operating a UFO Base right here on another time zone? It does no harm to speculate. It would appear that the mysterious planet Mohala has played a major role in Earth visitations in the past, as we are about to see, when we discover its true identity in the next Chapter. However, we have no way at present of knowing just how many other intelligent life forms have visited Earth or continue to do so. The Universe is made up of 20 galaxies, each containing billions and billions of stars and planets. How could Earth be the only planet capable of supporting life? Some scientists are convinced there may be some form of life on Mars, or even Europa, one of the moons of Jupiter. But would it be intelligent? I for one am convinced that intelligent life forms, even beings similar to ourselves, do exist somewhere out there, and that intelligent life once existed on Mars. We are definitely not alone and it seems certain that our Earth has been known of, and colonised in the past, by highly advanced beings from the farthest reaches of the Universe. -0-

EVIDENCE OF E.T. CONTACT WITH AUSTRALIAS URU MEGALITHIC CIVILISATION 8,000 YEARS AGO.
The Katoomba stele containing its remarkable Uruan prophetic inscription concerning the Beings of Light from the planet Mohala, who will rescue Earths inhabitants following its collision with an asteroid in the first year of the Third Age, is at this point in time the most remarkable stone inscription of the Uru uncovered by me. From its translation two questions immediately arise; namely has the Third Age already occurred long ago, or is it yet to come? And, where is the planet Mohala?

According to the stele inscription the planet has a population of 9 million, and it has two moons. Temples [ ie various structures] stand upon its surface, and the Mohalans in their flying craft have been to our Earth twice*. How long these visitors stayed here the inscription does not say, yet the available evidence suggests a considerable period of time, perhaps months or years. [*or do the Uruans mean the Mohalans have spent time on the Blue Mountains?] The true identity of Mohala will seem obvious to many UFOlogists. The planet Mars possesses two satellites; Phobos and Deimos. Phobos, shaped somewhat like a potato, possesses a reflectivity of only 6.5 per cent and measures approximately 18 by 23 kilometres [11 by 14 miles]. Deimos has been measured at 15 by 12 by 11 kilometres [9 by 7.4 by 6.8 miles]. Compared to our earth, the planet Mars is much smaller, its diameter being 4,212 miles [6,739 kilometres], whereas the diameter of Earth is 7,926 miles [12,756 kilometres]. Mohala was surely the name used by the ancient Uru to describe the Red Planet, Mars. While Earth is generally regarded by scientists as the only planet in our Solar System capable of supporting life, evidence [even if not at present supported by conservative scientists] is mounting that Mars may have once supported a highly-advanced form of intelligent life, beings surely much like ourselves who created a super-civilisation, certain aspects of which they imparted to the more primitive inhabitants of Earth. Here is a whole new world for exploration by archaeologists of the future. These will really be Astroarchaeologists, those researchers at present concerned with evidence of ancient astronaut visitations to earth, as suggested by mystery rock art found world-wide, including in Australia thousands of years old, as related in Chapter One. I do believe that Astroarchaeologists will in the future become the accepted term by which archaeologists searching for ancient intelligent life on Mars and elsewhere in the Universe will become known. And it does appear that there really will be a place for archaeologists and historians out there. Consider the rumours circulating concerning apparent ancient structures, claimed to exist on the dark side of the Moon, and about which NASA is claimed to have kept from public knowledge worldwide. Their photographs of this side of the Moon are always touched up to hide these structures it is claimed. NASA had also tried to hide something else of even far greater significance. During the mid-1970s, the NASA Viking and Mariner probes sent to Mars, produced thousands of photographs of the Martian landscape, a seemingly dry, desolate, wind-swept, rubble-strewn lifeless body in space. Yet aerial shots of the planets surface showed natural geological features rising up out of the landscape. Among these natural features were others, which when enhanced revealed startling images, which, unless they are natural tricks of light and shadow, appear to be actual structures, the work of intelligent beings in the dim past of an as yet unknown Martian history. These photographs show, in the Elysium region of the planet, four massive pyramids, estimated to rise about 3,300 ft into the sky; a gargantuan human-like face in the Cydonia region, staring upwards out into space, measuring about a mile and a half [2.41 kilometres] from crown to chin and the highest point, the nose tip, rises about half a mile [800m] above the ground; the outlines of a huge city in the south polar region. Other faces, pyramids and various other structures are still being studied from these photographs. The leaking out of these photographs caused a storm that has yet to settle. ***** Intelligent life on Mars, the dream of science fiction writers for generations may at last become a reality! Yet apart from the water known to lie beneath the surface, there is not intelligent life on Mars at present. What became of the builders of this mighty civilisation is a mystery to be solved by future scientists. I shall itemise the main features of this civilisation as revealed in the photographs, for they parallel similar natural structures here on Earth, principally in Australia. The Face: Comparisons between this face and that of the Egyptian sphinx have been made by some researchers, but this remains to be proven, and that can only be possible after Earth astronauts land on the planet. Besides, the Martian Face stares upward without a body, whereas the sphinx has a lions body and looks forward and is tiny in comparison to the gargantuan proportions of the Martian Face. The Martian Pyramids: The Cydonia pyramids, if that is what they really are, show remarkable alpha angle 16.36 degrees in their alignment with each other. Perhaps the most intriguing of the Cydonia structures is the Dome Pyramid, one of a cluster of angled constructions of various sizes located about 11km southwest of the Face. The

dome Pyramid rises 10 to 11km high and is approximately 800 to 880 times the volume of the Great Pyramid of Cheops and is in a collapsed state, hence the dome. The Gate Pyramid: A three-sided structure with two parallel walls coming out in one direction, it gives the appearance of a pyramid facing out onto a dried up lake or riverbed. The structure is unique in that it stands upon a huge monolith the size of Ayers Rock [Uluru, Central Australia]. The pyramid is small by Martian standards. The Crater Lip Pyramid: This structure is located in the Ismenius Lacus region and gives the appearance of having been constructed after the extinction of the volcano against whose side it stands. It is remarkably symmetrical and four-sided. There is also a five-sided pyramid which exhibits non-rectilinear geometrical form, and appears to have been erected above the water level of a long vanished sea or lake. It stands in the midst of the Cydonian complex, showing an alignment that is true north within half a degree. It is thought that this pyramid gives a summer solstice alignment on the planet. Another pyramid of truly gargantuan proportions is a five-sided structure estimated to be at least 800 times larger than the Great Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt. In fact, the exact correlation of the corners cannot be coincidental for the sharp edges do not appear to be the results of natural weathering processes. There are many more pyramidal formations in the Mammers Vallis area, standing upon a haggard plain covering an area of about 100km, and some researchers studying the photos believe they can detect the remains of agricultural terracing. The Martian City: Half buried by the debris of countless ages, this massive complex stands upon the edge of what gives the appearance of having been an ocean. The structures arranged in a honeycomb formation. Speculation on the architecture continues, as does argument over a remarkable horizontal runway which lies on an east-west axis [Latitude 35o North, Longitude 213o West]. It certainly gives the appearance of a modern-day Earth airstrip and extends for many hundreds of yards in length. ***** Whatever cataclysm, intelligence-triggered or natural, that wiped out the apparent Martian civilisation does not concern us here, and there is speculation on where the population departed to escape the catastrophe. Earth perhaps? There might also have been other destinations. Whatever the populations destination/s, what really interests the author are similarities in a number of natural structures to those on Mars, found right here in Australia! Aborigines across the continent point to many, seemingly natural features, often a range of hills or mountains whose outlines, especially at dawn and sunset, give the appearance of reclining male and female figures, or even heads. These are usually explained as Dreamtime creative giant ancestors or culture heroes. One of the most startling natural features of Aboriginal culture is Mt Tibrogargan, in the Glasshouse Mountains north of Brisbane, Queensland. This monolith, like its other Glasshouse Mountains neighbours, is a volcanic plug, rising up high out of the otherwise flat coastal landscape. When one takes a good long look at it, particularly its eastern side, its startling similarity to a gargantuan ape-like being, squatting with the right arm dropping down on the inside of the right leg, its left arm resting upon a rock is unmistakable. Allowing for ages of weathering, it could be argued that the eyes, nose and mouth were once deliberately carved out in a Mt Rushmore USA style operation, by intelligent beings possessing a super-civilisation technology. I believe these beings were what the Uru called the Mohalans, ie Martians. According to the Aborigines of the region, Tibrogargan was a giant man who once roamed the landscape but later turned to stone! Aborigines of the New England, northern NSW region once regarded a range of mountains to the west of Timbumburi, as the Sleeping Giant Woman. To be sure, the profile of the mountains does present the outline of a horizontal female figure, with outstretched legs, breasts, head and long flowing hair. The range lies on a north-south axis with the hair tapering off to the south. A closer inspection of the range reveals signs of modification of the mountaintops on a grand scale, to create the image of a reclining giant female figure. Yet how might this gigantic work of art have been created? Perhaps as suggested for the apelike image of Tibrogargan, it might have been carved out from the ground and from hovering airships employing a laser technology far beyond anything we can create at present. On the western side of the Flinders Ranges, South Australia, we find another range of mountains, whose contours form the outline of the reclining giant man of the former local tribespeople. He is said to lie there, his face turned skyward, looking for his fellow tribespeople with whom he had come down from the sky world, and to where they returned without him!

And throughout Australia there rise great hills or mountains of unmistakable pyramid shape. Often four-sided, others are three, even five or six-sided, rising hundreds of metres in some cases. If some may be naturally formed, others do show surviving signs of modification in antiquity. It is possible that some of these formations could have been modified by the Uruan civilisation [see Chapter Two], but then? The majority of these mighty pyramid mountains or hills form alignments, some crossing the continent, and all conduct a perpetual flow of natural earth-electricity through the full length of these natural structures, but for what purpose? According to Central Australian Aborigines, there exists an underground city whose secret entrance lies in a remote area. The city deep below the earth and is, they claim, untold thousands of years old. The tribesmen also claim it contains airships, and beings preserved in mummy-like fashion [or are they in time-suspension?] awaiting rejuvenation at some future date! Could this city be a massive underground base established by extra-terrestrials, ancient astronauts who landed here in great ages past? And recall that Ayers Rock formation capped by a pyramid on the Martian landscape. Was it modelled on our very own Uluru? ***** If the Martian Face, pyramids and other structures are truly the work of intelligent beings, as believed by a growing army of UFOlogists and others, then how old is this civilisation? Dates as high as 100 million years have been suggested based upon the estimates for cessation of volcanic activity on the planet; yet some volcanoes may have ceased erupting thousands of millions of years before that date, and some astronomers believe the last volcanic eruptions only ceased around one million years ago. As the dates for the rise of Martian civilisation did not have to follow those estimated for the beginnings of civilisation here on Earth, 100 million may sound too fantastic a figure to us, but may very well have been the case on Mars. So, if intelligent beings had evolved on Mars that long ago only to vanish with all other traces of life on its surface, how are we to explain the several thousand years old Uruan rock art already described of ancient astronauts and the stele at Katoomba NSW describing the Beings of Light from the planet Mohala, which it appears, was their name for Mars? Could it be possible that the Martian cities, industries, spaceports, etc had also extended to deep inside the planet, where the population was largely able to escape the great ecological disaster that overtook the surface? And then there would have been the Martian colonies on other worlds, even perhaps Earth itself, where their culture could have been perpetuated. Thus in one way or another they lingered on into the time of Uru. Perhaps also, having mastered time-travel, their extra-terrestrial civilisation survived [and therefore would still!] on another time zone, from where they emerge, we assume, to visit Earth and any other lifesupporting planets in the Universe. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that they, and other supercivilisations in our vast Universe, have actually introduced life to hitherto barren planets. One thing is certain, and that is taking the geological history of evolution of life on Earth as a guide, for intelligent life to have evolved on Mars, this and every other life form had to have arisen hundreds of millions of years before the beginning of the catastrophic big dry which turned the planets surface into a dust bowl. The Martians were certainly far too advanced in space technology to have disappeared, and if they did not move underground they certainly survived on their other, far-flung planetary colonies. The shape of the Martian Face is undoubtedly Human in appearance, a strong indication that the Martians had to have been physically much the same as ourselves. Therefore their evolutionary history must have paralleled that of ours also. If this be true, then future palaeoanthropologists working at ancient Martian stone-age occupation sites, can anticipate the recovery of fossil hominid-like remains and the crude stone tools and weapons with which these primitive beings hunted their prey, in the form of animal life with which we are at present unfamiliar. One can envision future anthropological conferences held by our scientists in some new Martian city perhaps 150-200 years from now, at which heated arguments erupt over the classification of skull-types; or when the primitive stone-age ancestors of the later Martians first discovered how to make fire just as such arguments continue here on Earth among scientists concerned with our own evolutionary beginnings today! There had to have been a Martian stone-age, if the above speculations of a former civilisation on Mars are eventually proven beyond doubt to understandably sceptical scientists, and it probably occurred while dinosaurs roamed our Earth and the rise of the primates was well in the future. These speculations can also be applied to other worlds in the Universe believed capable of supporting life, and upon which intelligent beings of humanoid appearance could also have arisen even a billion or more years before Man on Earth.

***** As already stated, the Viking and Mariner aerial and surface space probes of NASA transmitted their photographs of Mars back to Earth, these showed a barren planet, a windswept, rust-coloured desert soil landscape with dried up ancient tributaries. But then there were the Face, pyramids and other mysterious structures to dispute the lifeless planet theory. Life certainly had once existed on Mars. On August 6th 1996 NASA scientists announced that they had discovered fossil evidence of primitive Martian life forms. This evidence came from a meteorite [ALH 84001] that struck the Allen Hills area of Antarctica somewhere between 12,000-13,000 years ago, and which had been unearthed by scientists in 1984. The rock contained glass bubbles that had trapped gases in the same composition as the atmosphere of Mars. It was concluded that the meteorite had been expelled from the planets surface by the force of the impact of a large space body. The meteorite also bore chalky structures containing the fossil remains of primitive micro-organisms. Although the meteorite had only struck the Earth in late Ice-Age times, the rock was estimated to be 4.5 billion years old, making it far older than any other so far discovered. Some scientists believe the meteorite was from the original crust of Mars when the planet was first formed. While scientists know that Mars is today a cold, dry desolate space body, during the period in which the fossil bacteria lived the climate was hot and wet, and therefore ideal for the evolution of life. Australia contains the oldest fossil micro-organisms on Earth. These occur in Pre-Cambrian rocks in Western Australia and date back 3.46 billion years. These are the remains of bacteria very similar to those whose traces have been found in the Martian meteorite. Yet the Martian life forms have been dated to 3.6 billion years, more than 100 million years earlier than their counterparts on Earth. This implies that the evolution of life on the Red Planet may have had a head start of 100 million years ahead of evolution of life on Earth. If this is so, then the rise of intelligent life on Mars [as there appears to have been] occurred at such a vastly earlier period than it did on Earth, that the eventual rise of Martian civilisation would have occurred millions of years ago, in the course of which they conquered space, exploring other worlds including Earth. The above proposition will immediately be dismissed by conservative scientists unable to accept the former existence of life on the planet Mars. Such suggestions they dismiss out-of-hand as utter nonsense, consigning them to the waste paper basket as nothing more than science fiction. Yet they forget that, time and again, it has been demonstrated that todays science fiction is tomorrows science fact! -0-

VISITORS BUZZ THE ARAFURA GAMES

A PAIR of UFOs have invaded the Top End to check out the Arafura Games, the NT's leading UFO-ologist said last night. Alan Ferguson said he saw the flashing craft flying together in unison above his Acacia Hills home early yesterday. "In 30 years of UFO spotting I have never, ever seen two of them moving together like this," he said. He said there was no chance he was seeing double. "I was sober - I had only just woken up bro. All I had to drink was a cup of tea." Mr Ferguson said the UFOs were probably in town to check out the Arafura Games being held in Darwin this week. "When big things are happening they always tend to be around the joint to give a bit of a flash here and there," he said. "It was all happening bro, believe me." Mr Ferguson said he woke just before 5am yesterday and had a feeling there could be some "activity". "Maybe one day we can convince them to compete in the Arafura games. no problem about accomodation they can overnight in their spaceship." Paul "I walked outside and looked around for a while," he said. It was what he saw about 30 minutes later that shocked the experienced UFO spotter. "It was like I had seen two of these satellites but they were together," he said. "In all these years I have been looking up in the sky I have never seen two satellites transverse with each other. These two were going from one side of the sky to the other, next to each other." As a result of the sighting Mr Ferguson has bumped up to high the "UFO activity" level on his website, www. ufoterritory.com. au He says he expects this UFO season, which co-incides with the Darwin dry season, to be a bumper one.

A FULL-SCALE alien invasion of the Northern Territory has begun. Astronomers and police say that the flares seen across a 360km-long stretch of the Top End coast were probably caused by a meteor shower. But highly-qualified UFO-ologists said they believed the bright lights were space ships on a pre-attack scouting mission. Darwin-based UFO expert Alan Ferguson said the flares were obviously aliens. "This all sounds like UFO activity," he said. "Meteors usually just flash across the sky and leave a tail. "But UFOs will stay in the same spot and wobble up and down and side to side. Fast movements. "I thought 5 Gerrys made 1 McRoberts, so is this actually 2 McRoberts?" Neil "That's how they work." Mr Ferguson said UFOs, like Swedish backpackers and Canberra politicians, nearly always came to the Top End during the dry season. "It may be just that there are less clouds and we can see better," he said. "Or it maybe that we're outside more during the Dry. "Or maybe the UFOs are interested in our military activity. There are always more of them about during (Operation) Pitch Black." Superintendent Bruce Porter said police received many calls about the flares at about 9pm on Tuesday. Police feared a boat was in distress and launched a search. "We took this seriously, but the indications are that nobody is missing," they said. Just last month the NT News reported on how one Territory town's invasion by UFOs had been recorded in the world's most famous museum for extraterrestrial life. The tiny community of Marlinja came to a standstill in June 2008 when UFOs reportedly descended on the town. Now the event has been recorded at the International UFO Museum in Roswell. Roswell in New Mexico is home to arguably the most famous UFO incident of all time.

On July 8, 1947, it was reported that US Army personnel had recovered a crashed flying disc from a ranch near Roswell. Supt Porter believes the flares were probably a meteor shower. For those who don't believe the NT is being invaded by Martians, meteors are pieces of debris that burn up when entering the earth's atmosphere. If they hit the ground, they become meteorites. * LAST month the NT News established the Gerrymeter scale to give Territory UFO sightings a credibility rating. The Gerrymeter was named in honour of the Territory's most powerful man, independent MLA Gerry Wood, who has seen UFOs flying over his electorate in Darwin's rural area. -0-

UFO WATCHERS ARE NOT ALONE

KAREN Carruthers is convinced of the existence of UFOs and extra-terrestrial life. And she is not alone. In May last year, she helped establish the Byron UFO Research Group, which attracts up to 50 people to its monthly meetings. The gatherings feature guest speakers many of whom claim to have had an alien contact and allow people a safe space to discuss UFO and alien encounters. If youve never told anyone about your experience, its a lot to carry around. There is a fear of ridicule, said Ms Carruthers, who is a former family therapist. People at the meeting come from all walks of life, she said. Many have had a lifelong interest in UFOs or had seen something and had no outlet for it. We had a woman at our last meeting who had experienced a sighting 36 years ago. Mrs Carruthers started seeing UFOs in the 1990s and recollects being taken on a spacecraft in 2003. She says her daughter, who lives in Sunrise, saw a UFO just last Sunday morning. There was no sound, it was a round object and it hovered over the house and didnt move. She watched it for half an hour. Mrs Carruthers said there was a lot of fear surrounding alien life and UFOs, but the more you knew, the less scary it became. She said aliens were a force for good: To want to help us to help the planet and each other. As part of her work with the group, Ms Carruthers is compiling a database of UFO sightings from Byron and surrounding areas. She plans to conduct interviews, collating the information to create an historical record and to help demystify the subject. The more it gets out into the open, the more accepted it becomes, she said. We want to give it some credibility and respectability. She said interest in UFOs was growing worldwide and becoming more accepted and mainstream -019

UFO SIGHTING MAY BE SOLVED

A FLOOD of UFO sightings over Northern NSW and South-East Queensland in 2006 may have been solved by an Australian scientist. Hundreds of people witnessed the spectacular display of brilliant, green, fragmenting fireballs tracing across the sky from as far south as Ballina and as far north as Gladstone in Queensland shortly after 6pm on May 16, 2006. Dr Stephen Hughes, a physics researcher and self-described sky sleuth from the Queensland University of Technology, believes he has unravelled the mystery after collating more than 200 reported sightings many with mobile phone photos from a public survey he conducted. In an article published in British science journal, Proceedings of the Royal Society A, on Wednesday, Dr Hughes proposed that the phenomenon was the result of meteor fragments accompanied by extremely rare ball lightning. It was also apparent that at least three fireballs had blazed across the sky at about the same time one travelling north up the coast, another roughly east to west across Brisbane, and another south over the Gold Coast, he said. Fireballs can produce ionised trails which, in principle, are able to conduct electricity between 80km to 20km from the Earth. It is possible that they could generate a conductive trail all the way to the Earth that would be invisible until it hit the ground, where it would produce a ball-like shape as the current flowed back from the ground. If this is correct that meteors can cause transient electrical connections between the ground and the ionosphere it could explain many UFO sightings to date. Dr Hughes said the green lights were also seen off the coast of New Zealand an hour before the local sightings. He believes they were fragments of a comet that was passing close to the Earth and the rocks, weighing at least one kilogram each, glowed green due to oxygen atoms being ionised by its speed. The strangest sighting, from Don Vernon, of Greenmount, was of a strange, green, glowing ball about 30cm in diameter seen gently rolling down the slopes of the Great Dividing Range soon after the fireballs passing. Dr Hughes visited Mr Vernon and found nothing unusual. I think the ball lightning phenomenon Mr Vernon saw was caused by a transient electrical connection between the ionosphere and the ground, he said. -0-

June 9, 2011 DID AUSTRALIA HIDE THE UFO SIGHTING FILES TO KEEP THE PUBLIC IN THE DARK?
Australias military has lost its X-Files, detailing sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects, or UFOs, across the country, a newspaper report said Tuesday. After a two-month search in response to a newspaper Freedom of Information (FOI) request, which forces government officials to release documents of public interest, Australias Department of Defense had been unable to locate the files, the Sydney Morning Herald said. The files could not be located and Headquarters Air Command formally advised that this file is deemed lost, the departments FOI assistant director, Natalie Carpenter, told the paper. Defense officials could not be contacted by Reuters. The only file Defense had been able to locate was a folder called: Report on UFOs/Strange Occurrences and Phenomena in Woomera, a military weapons testing range in the center of Australias vast outback, Carpenter said. All other files had been lost or destroyed, which the Herald said could fuel conspiracy theories about their disappearance. The single remaining file detailed a sketchy series of sightings from around the country and overseas, including people living in towns near Woomera, in South Australia state. -0-

NZ MILITARY RELEASES UFO FILES

THE New Zealand military has released hundreds of previously classified reports detailing claims of unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings and alien encounters. The reports, dating from 1954 to 2009, were released today under freedom of information laws after the New Zealand Defence Force removed names and other identifying material. In about 2000 pages of documents, members of the public, military personnel and commercial pilots outline close encounters, mostly involving moving lights in the sky. Some of the accounts include drawings of flying saucers, descriptions of aliens wearing "pharaoh masks" and alleged examples of extraterrestrial writing. Before their release, Air Force squadron leader Kavae Tamariki said the Defence Force did not have the resources to investigate UFO sightings and would not be commenting on the files' contents. "We've just been a collection point for the information. We don't investigate or make reports, we haven't substantiated anything in them," he told the Dominion Post. One of the most comprehensive files concerns two sightings of strange lights off the South Island town of Kaikoura in 1978, one of which was captured by a television crew aboard a plane in the area. The incident made international headlines at the time, but a contemporary Air Force report found it could be explained by natural phenomena such as lights from boats being reflected off clouds or an unusual view of the planet Venus. The original documents on which the reports released today were based will remain sealed in the national archive, some until 2080.
