In the modern world today, it is of great necessity for learners, especially for economics students to master certain amount of experience after graduation to prepare for prospect future career. Internship has actually been considered a good chance for students to apply knowledge they gained at university to reality. Therefore, this period of working requirement plays a very important part in bachelor course and helps students become closer to targeted jobs. Students themselves should aware of this essentiality, then take serious tasks implementation. As we all know, banking is a crucial field in the whole economics system. Although taking the external economics course, I was taught quite generally about some aspects and information of finance. Besides the knowledge about my major, I want to combine these two fields together for linkage and relevance. Hence, only by working in international payment area can I reach my objectives. By searching the internship units, I figure out that the Military Bank possesses the elements I demand. Working for Customers Corporate Banking Department in one branch of bank was my final decision. My report will thoroughly demonstrate results I archived during the period of internship in this department. Thenceforth, there is likelihood for me to summarize experiences and draw some lessons.

Overview of Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank


1.1.

General information

With nearly 17 years of experience, Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank has firmly established itself in the banking industry. The banks have enjoyed stable operation with high growth rate, thus gaining trust from existing customers as well as potential customers and investors. Its a well-known bank in Vietnam with a current charter capital of VND 7.300 billion. Its main base is on 03 Lieu Giai Street, Ba Dinh District, Ho Noi City. Hitherto, it has possessed 4,170 employees and controlled 40 branches.

History and Development

In order to meet the initial goal of financial services provision for military enterprises on 4 November, 1994, Military Bank was officially born and put into operation as for the certificate of business registration No. 0100283873 issued by Department of Planning and Investment of Hanoi City and License 0054/NH-GP of State Bank of Vietnam. Initially, charter capital was only 20 billion VND, but this number has increased dramatically for two decades. In particular, its raising charter capital to 3,400 billion VND in 2008 was followed by continuous increase by 5,300 billion VND in 2009 and 7,300 billion VND in 2010.

Customers Corporate Banking Department

This department plays essential role in success and operation of Military Bank. The Branch at Dien Bien Phu Street recruited about 20 staff for this position. Generally, this department deals with some main fields as follow: + Deposit: Demand deposit, term deposit, term deposit with partial withdrawals. + Cash management: Working capital management, receivables management, payables management. + Financing: Short-term loans, medium and long-term loans, factoring. + Guarantee: MB provides enterprises with the best guarantee services by a team of experienced and enthusiastic specialists. Types of guarantee services: Bidding guarantee, contract performance guarantee, borrowing guarantee, payment guarantee, quality guarantee, advance payment guarantee, counter guarantee, guarantee confirmation. + International payments: Overseas remittance, inward remittance, export collections. + Foreign exchange: Foreign Exchange Trading, commodity derivatives, financial derivatives. + E-Banking: eMB, eMB link.

II. INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES


1. Have the basic knowledge and background about the internship unit as

well as the departments. In order to work well with a business, an employee has to understand deeply about this unit. This brings not only the activeness but also efficiency while doing the tasks. Besides general information provided on website, I want to read more documents at department about the operation as well as specific characteristics of Military Bank. Thenceforth, with profound comprehension, I clearly orient myself to suitable work and learn some new jobs. Moreover, internship also helps students have overview about the jobs they intend to work in the future. Realization of units advantages and disadvantages is good for future work place decision.
2. Gain more experiences from delegated tasks in addition to theories.

Obviously, a successful business man should master a good academic basis. This department deals with many fields, including international payments. That helps me so much to practice more in addition to my theoretical knowledge gained at university. Experience is likely to support my awareness and make me think rationally. Because the most important thing in learning is applying to reality, I desire to attain as much practice as possible.
3. Make a comparison between information taught at university and that

works in practice. Sometimes the procedures stated in lecture are shorten or implemented another way in reality. Thus, through working, I am able to clarify what remains the same as I

It not only contributes to my more firm knowledge but also keeps me out of illusion. Certainly, comparison between theories and practice is the first priority a student must apprehend after internship period.
4. Improve the communication skill and critical thinking skill.

In modern society, with every passing day, soft skills approve more vital position in successful career. Consequently, I set up a goal of achieving skills during this working period. It is very useful for an employee to have good communication skill. Many tasks delegated for workers such as meeting customers or reporting to supervisors require a perfect conversation-making ability. Furthermore, knowing how to listen to others is also essential to efficiency at business places as well as long-lasting relationship with colleagues. Interestingly, this department includes the credit sections that certainly help me fulfill these objectives. To handle the work, it is of great necessity for me to have critical thinking skill. And this skill will be improved during the time I concentrate in work.
5. Widen the relationship.

Each day working in this department, an employee has to meet at least one enterprise for credit mobilization. Hence, various corporations will negotiate with Bank. This piece of work possibly widens my relationship, increases the number of contacts. It lays the first foundation for my future career. More importantly, I take a chance to meet and talk to various employees. Actually, learning from them is really precious. Friendly and supportive attitudes toward them are also useful for comfort in work place. Social skill and relationship rank equal place in the essence of success.
6. Realize my own strengths and weaknesses while working.

Self-actualization holds no less importance in target reaching. After internship accomplishment, I am likely to withdraw some lessons and realize my own ability to

III. TASKS DELEGATED


3.1. Read the documents about the department At the first week going to the department, I am required to read information and documents about the Military Bank as well as the Customers Corporate Banking Department in order to make sure deeply understand about this work place. These documents relate to the history, function, organization, missions of Military Bank and specific requirements for Departments. Thanks to this, I know more about the structure of a Bank in reality. Then, I am given some real contracts to study and some files for illustration. Initially, the instructors want me to have overview about tasks of staff in this department and to review what I have learned at university. 3.2. Look up exchange rates Every day, exchange rates fluctuate slightly. To count the amount of money transacted through the bank, personnel have to look up daily exchange rate. This simple task I am able to carry out and help my instructor. He assigned me to do this work then calculate the total value of transaction for him. This is a good job to update the exchange rates and have some evaluation on currency fluctuation. 3.3. Input the data To prepare a file for transaction, especially with enterprise customers, financial information is very important. Therefore, my guiders need me to input the data into a form such as balance sheet, income statement and cash flows of a corporation. Sometimes, he requires me to determine some financial ratios to fill in the record. I am

For instances, the Nam Hai services Company or Song Hong head of company are enterprises I have to read the financial statements then enter them. 3.4. Make the applications or reports One kind of crucial task that I need to fulfill is making the applications. Applications are usually request of L/C amendment or guarantee. With this type of work, I force to read the sale contract and related documents for detail. After that, I sort out the necessary information to open an application according to the Bank template. Finished filling out the form, I print it and put in together with other involved documents. Another piece of work I possibly complete is searching information about potential enterprises. My instructor gives me the name of corporation he wants me to look up. My duty is searching the Internet for details about them. The final step is summarizing the key point about that enterprise and handing over. 3.5. Learn about some new specialist knowledge There are various tasks demanding new specialist knowledge. Therefore, I have to learn and practice them. As an illustration, credit is an essential area of a Bank. Bank survival mainly depends on the amount of money deposit from customers and interest receipt from loans. Normally, credit includes three main types: account receivable and inventory financing, asset or item financing, credit limit financing. Guider gives me lectures and theories about this field and requires me study more. He also demonstrates examples for me to analyze. Furthermore, cash management is also good criteria to evaluate financial situation of a company. Through some figures in financial states, he draws some specimen conclusions for me and let me continue that work. 3.6. Meet customers with guider

To negotiate with an enterprise, we have to prepare documents of bank as well as profile of targeted company. Certainly, it is impossible for me to take part in negotiation. My duty simply is to support him and to learn something from his work. If bank wants to attract more enterprises, it must show off all benefit and preferential treatment toward corporation. This task is sometimes like marketing job. 3.7. Support the instructors Actually, I even support my instructors several odd jobs such as printing documents or making photocopy. These tasks do not related to any specialist knowledge; however, they show the supportive spirit and friendly behavior.

IV. ADVANTAGES AND DIFFICULTIES


4.1. Advantages The enthusiasm of instructor as well as other employees During the internship period, sisters and brothers in department help me so much in implementing the tasks. They are very enthusiastic and supportive. Whenever finding something blur, I immediately ask them for explanation. Actually, I learn many things from their knowledge as well as experiences. The instructors with profound knowledge and experience My guider is a deputy manager of SME (small and medium enterprises), so he has deep understanding about the work. He conveys the messages for me clearly and easily. Hence, I can study and finish jobs more quickly. Have some important basis knowledge that applied for tasks execution At university, as a junior student I have mastered quite clear and useful knowledge about major. There are several tasks that I need that knowledge to complete. This makes me more active and work more effectively.

Thus, his intention to teach me many things becomes failure. This is a disadvantage for me in gaining much more experiences. Moreover, whenever problems arise during working, I have to wait until he gets back to clarify. As a result, it decreases the efficiency and time-wasting. Face with many fields that have not been taught at university Although international payment relates to the major I am studying at university. Nonetheless, tasks given to me at work do not only focus on that field. There are many areas I have to get on well with on Banking such as cash management or credits. Therefore, it takes me time to cover those issues and practice them. This partly prevents me from experiencing much work. In addition, various terms and definitions are really strange and difficult to me. To face this challenge I must spend a lot of time and effort. Not be given complex and too important tasks Due to the limit experience as well as specialist knowledge, I cannot handle too difficult pieces of work that require much time and understanding. Thus, my instructors did not assign me such kind of jobs. This is a fact I need to accept, but it impedes me to reach further experience and improve my ability. Academic environment at work is not very good In summer, the weather is rather hot. The air-conditioned operates with maximum speed and capacity. Hence, it is broken and needs repairing. During this period, the atmosphere is not suitable for me to work well. More terribly, the room is quite small for all employees. Working conditions may reduce the effectiveness of staff.

V. INTERNSHIP EVALUATION
5.1. Achievements

5.1.1. On objectives basis Generally, I meet almost objectives set at the beginning of the internship period. With serious working spirit, I try to reach each goal by working hard at department. I gained experiences and have basic background about the work at Bank. Other employees are also very friendly and cherish to me. More notably, I obey all the regulations of the company and demonstrate good behavior. I have positive attitude toward the internship tasks. I actively ask the instructors what I can help him and express my willing to work. This makes him have good view on me. While working I concentrate definitely; therefore, I am able to finish work on time. Actually, I get more comprehensive view about the reality and theories after working time. This helps me evaluate an issue more exactly and suitably. More importantly, I know thoroughly what work fits on me and what I should prepare for my future career. Overall, this internship period is quite successful to me because I possibly achieve many objectives I desire. 5.1.2. On tasks delegated basis At the end of internship period, I received good comments from my instructor. He evaluates me quite potentially. I myself made the best effort to work in this department. Therefore, I am happy with this result also there still exists some problems need taking into consideration. I complete all my jobs and learn many lessons from them. This is the purpose of internship period. Getting along with working in department is really useful for my

5.2.1. On objectives basis The communication skill improvement that I expected when negotiating with customers is not fulfilled. I only observe my instructor and those enterprises do the transaction but I cannot talk anything related to this negotiation. My duty was just supporting him, preparing the documents with him. 5.2.2. On tasks delegated basis Although I finish all the tasks, sometimes I need much time to do them or learn them from the beginning. It somehow reduces my efficiency and quickness. Furthermore, there was much lag time when I have no work to do. This was due to the fact that I am not able to carry out too sophisticated jobs. Hence, this free time is quite wasteful and boring.

VI. RESULTS AND EXPERIENCES ACCUMULATION


6.1. Results Have basic knowledge and background about the internship unit as well as the

department Through reading documents of Bank, I am able to meet this objective. At the end of the internship period, I am likely to draw some striking features of Military Bank and missions of Customers Corporate Banking Department. These characteristics will support me in job decision-making in the future. Gain more experiences from delegated tasks in addition to theories

This goal is certainly met during the internship period. For instance, I know exactly how to use sale contracts in Banking to open an L/C or an enterprise need what documents and what procedure to make guarantee for the other party. All the knowledge I knew in international sales of goods and this is a suitable chance for me to verify them. Make comparison between reality and theories During the work period, I realize that some jobs are not exactly carried out the same according to theories. Actually, Bank has to be active in searching potential enterprises to convince them make credit. Moreover, to evaluate a corporation through financial statement, we need to look at statement of cash flows, especially cash flows from investment. Normally, students think that cash flow from operating positive is good. However, the most important feature to Bank of a corporation is positive cash flows from investing. Here is something I easily summarized after internship period. Improve the critical thinking skill While doing my jobs, I have to use the critical thinking ability to handle them. In particular, reading contracts then selecting the appropriate information to make an application requires this skill. Or analyzing the financial statements of a company also needs this ability. Thus, I stand a golden chance to improve my critical thinking skill. Widen the relationship Working with sisters and brothers in department helps me build up my relationship. Moreover, they support me very much in tasks accomplishment. Having lots of friends is also advantage for future career. Strengths and weaknesses realization

I can realize my strength and weaknesses while approaching with each piece of work. Particularly, I have ability to work under high pressure and concentration and understand problem quickly. However, while working sometimes I still have some reserve and hesitation. In the future, I try to develop my advantages and improve my weaknesses. 6.2. Experiences accumulation Deal with specialist work By doing some practical work, I am able to accumulate some specialist experience, get along with them and understand them deeply such as L/C payment, guarantee, credits or money in circulation. I realize that it is necessary to broaden my awareness by reading more newspapers or watching economics news to update the trend of global economy as well as domestic one. Success comes from profound and wide knowledge mastering. How to work effectively In order for work to go smoothly, each person has to concentrate on tasks seriously. Especially, we have to keep ourselves from distraction by others or relaxing activities like Facebook or chatting. Moreover, we need to apportion time reasonably to fulfill the job. Self-making deadlines are the good tool for working. Use Microsoft offices effectively Although using Microsoft office quite frequently in learning, I figure out that in working we need some common movement for quick composition. It is very time-saving and effective. During internship period, I have a chance to experience and practice it. Search information quickly

The fact is that there are numerous websites on the Internet and I must find the most appropriate website for references. Doing work during a period helps me find out reliable and academic websites used for economic and financial purposes. It is a helpful experience for my up-coming thesis. Appropriate behavior in offices Everyone is a part of society or a community, so in order to get along with it we have to create integration. After internship period, I know how to behave well in working place so that no one feels unpleasant about my action such as being courteous, sociable, respective and supportive. This is the way to make long-lasting relationship. It is necessary for my future career.

VII. SELF-PERSPECTIVE ABOUT INTERNSHIP AND RECOMMENDATION


7.1. Self-perspective about internship From my point of view, internship is really important and helpful for students to practice more beyond knowledge at university. I myself gained so many things thanks to this period. My internship is quite effective although there is something I have to improve. More interestingly, I feel more matured after working. It lays the first step for my future job. Obviously, I will face no confusion in the near future when going to work. I made as much endeavor as possible to complete the tasks and happily other employees in department support me enthusiastically. Maybe, I try my best for this internship and really serious with it. Indeed, I find it necessary for me to experience in this internship period. 7.2. Recommendation

This gives students a finger in becoming realistic and better. In my opinion, university should elongate the time of period internship for students to work longer. Above all, I feel grateful since faculty supports us in giving opportunity for students to work and guide us what we should reach in this period. I hope that faculty will continue to help us to become good business men in the future.

CONCLUSION
Internship absolutely marks a turning-point in bachelor program for students. They certainly experience themselves in new challenges. Consequently, they are able to expose in reality. We cannot deny the importance of practical working and I myself appreciate opportunities and challenges this period brings about. Generally, I complete successful my internship and learn various lessons from instructors as well as other employees. Actually, Banking and Finance is a not only essential but also difficult field in whole economy system. Working there requires worker meet certain characteristics such as knowledge, experience or competence. By and large, it is of great necessity for students to practice as much as possible and to improve themselves continuously.
