FADE IN EXT. BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL GAME, PHOENIX DAY ON THE FIELD Opens with a high energy montage featuring DEVIN MARSHALL, a college junior and absolute beast of a football player whos clearly the best talent on the field, if not the country, playing in the national championship game for the fictitious University of Southern Florida. Hes a dual threat iron man playing wide receiver and defensive back while also taking a few snaps at quarterback throwing a couple short passes and running for a 20 yard gain while breaking several tackles. The montage also includes: Devin making several amazing spectacular one-handed catch tackle after tackle, jumping scoring an amazing touchdown teammates. catches in traffic capped by a on a long pass, breaking over other defenders and then being bombarded by his

Lining up as a defensive back, he reads the eyes of the quarterback, then gets a sick jump on the ball once its in the air intercepting it then running it back for 30 yards before going out of bounds. Devin runs an end-around lined up as a wide receiver, takes the handoff from the quarterback then zig zags his way down the field, jumping over defenders, breaking tackles and using his pure athleticism to muscle his way into the endzone for a 50 yard rushing touchdown. On an offensive play when hes lined he runs his pattern as his fellow WR help him Devin throws a devastating, that lifts the unsuspecting defender buried into the ground. up as a wide receiver, catches the ball; to de-cleating tackle off his feet and

Devin can do it all on the football field. The game comes back from a commercial with the on-screen graphic reading Los Angeles University 28, University of Southern Florida 28.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese IN THE BROADCAST BOOTH BRENT MUSBURGER Were back folks at the University of Phoenix stadium in Glendale, Arizona for this years BCS National Championship game. Were deep into the fourth quarter and, while the game is tied, the story has to be Devin Marshall, Devin Marshall, and Devin Marshall. KIRK HERBSTREIT The kid really is a beast and looks like a man amongst boys. Hes doing everything out there on the football field; catching, running, blocking, tackling, intercepting the ball and, most importantly, scoring touchdowns. BRENT MUSBERGER I almost expect him to get back there and take a punt return or two. KIRK HERBSTREIT Funny you mention that, when I sat down with Devin last night he was lamenting the fact that coach wont let him field kickoff or punt returns. BRENT MUSBERGER He needs to catch his breath at some point during the game. KIRK HERBSTREIT He truly does everything out there. BRENT MUSBURGER Yet the game is still tied? KIRK HERBSTREIT Well, the University of Los Angeles is definitely absorbing all of Devins blow and they are probably the best all around team, but there is no question that the best player on the field, by far, belongs to the University of Southern Florida.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese BRENT MUSBURGER For the viewers at home, remember the name Devin Marshall, youll be hearing about this kid for years to come. Hes a surefire #1 draft pick in April. What do you think Kirk? KIRK HERBSTREIT Ohh, I agree. When you look at the landscape of college football today and the players who are eligible for the draft, or who are expected to come out early like Devin, I think its safe to say that he will be the #1 pick. BRENT MUSBURGER And he wont be a bust either like weve seen from time to time with other top 5 picks. KIRK HERBSTREIT Ohh, you got that right. I dont see any deficiencies in his game that would lead me to believe hed be anything but a big time player at the pro level. He won the Heisman trophy running away as a junior; the kid is the truth. He has nothing else to prove at the collegiate level. BRENT MUSBURGER Winning the Heisman, not bad for a kid that wasnt really on anyones radar as a potential all-world player back in August. KIRK HERBSTREIT He did it the old fashioned way during The off-season. Practice, practice, practice and a little more attention paid to strength and conditioning didnt hurt either. Bottom line, Marshall matured and became more disciplined and all that work has paid off in spades. BRENT MUSBURGER Well it looks like the injury has been taken care of on the field and were ready to resume the action.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese ON THE FIELD The University of Southern Florida offense breaks the huddle with Devin lining up as a wide receiver. Once the quarterback takes the snap, Devin fakes a pattern then runs over to the quarterback where he takes the pitch and tries to find an open receiver. The defense is very solid, providing great coverage downfield while also closing in on Devin. Devins superior athletic ability allows him to duck around and jump over defender after defender, escaping a sack on several occasions. KIRK HERBSTREIT (O.S.) Theres Devin showing his pure athleticism by escaping a sure sack multiple times. BRENT MUSBERGER (O.S.) Just call him a modern day Houdini. Hes still looking for an open receiver when a linebacker finally catches up and tackles him. BRENT MUSBERGER (O.S.) Down goes Devin finally. Devin ends up fumbling the ball which is picked up by a heavy-set, slow defensive lineman who rumbles down the field for about ten yards before hes pushed out of bounds by Devin who has managed to get up and chase him down. BRENT MUSBERGER (O.S.) And its a fuuummmbbbllleee! University of Los Angeles recovers the ball and now they are in great field position on USFs side of the field. KIRK HERBSTREIT (O.S.) That goes to show you that even perfect players make mistakes every once in a while. BRENT MUSBERGER (O.S.) It was certainly a valiant effort by Marshall though. Hes doing everything he can to win this game.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese KIRK HERBSTREIT (O.S.) But he probably bit off a little more than he could chew in this instance. He shouldve just thrown the ball away once he saw the rush coming and live to play another play. BRENT MUSBERGER (O.S.) Just goes to show you his tenacity and his will to win. God, hes going to be a great player in the pros! Devin takes his time walking across the field back to his sideline; hes dejected about giving up a fumble and claps his hands in frustration. Fuck! ON THE SIDELINES Devins greeted by consoling coaches and teammates when he makes it to the sideline and welcomed by pats on the helmet and back; his team knows all the sweat and great play hes put into the game. USF WIDE RECEIVER COACH Dont worry about it, shake it off. USF CHAMPIONSHIP GAME PLAYER #1 Thats alright baby, thats all right baby, well get them in overtime. USF CHAMPIONSHIP GAME PLAYER #2 It aint no thing, its aint no thing, dont worry about it. Well be OK. Devin ignores all the consoling comments and makes a beeline to the bench where he throws down his helmet in anger then paces up and down the sideline by himself. DEVIN Son-of-a-bitch! ON THE FIELD The ULA offense takes the field and runs a couple running plays to get the team into field goal position as the clock winds down. Damn it! DEVIN I know better than that.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese BRENT MUSBERGER (O.S.) Theres nothing Southern Florida can do to stop the clock as Los Angeles tries to position themselves for a game-ending field goal. KIRK HERBSTREIT (O.S.) And it looks like thats exactly what theyre doing as the last rushing play put the ball on the left hash mark, exactly where they want their kicker to kick from. The ULA kicker comes onto the field with :04 seconds left and lines up for the kick. ON THE SIDELINES Devin is standing next to the benches, by himself with his hands dejectedly on his hips, watching the game on the jumbotron. DEVIN (shaking his head) Damn. The field goal attempt, which is being shown on the jumbotron, is good as the clock hits :00. DEVIN Fuck. The ULA team rushes the field to celebrate their national championship as confetti rains down from above. Dejectedly, Devin grabs his helmet and walks slowly across the field towards the tunnel. BRENT MUSBERGER (O.S.) Congratulations to the University of Los Angeles, this years college football national champions. KIRK HERBSTREIT (O.S.) And although I know this is Los Angeles night, but a special congratulations has to go out to Devin Marshall, its been an absolute pleasure to watch him play at the (MORE)

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese KIRK HERBSTREIT (contd) collegiate level this year. Although this definitely wasnt the way he wanted to go out, I know there will only be good things in store for him in the NFL. BRENT MUSBERGER (O.S.) So you dont think hell even think about coming back for his senior year? KIRK HERBSTREIT (O.S.) If you had all that talent, would you? I think its safe to say that this is the last time well see Devin in a Southern Florida Manatees jersey. Devin continues walking across the field, ignoring all the revelers who are partying with the opposing team. An ESPN REPORTER with her CAMERAMAN rushes up to Devin to get an interview but he just walks by her with his head hung low not even acknowledging them. He enters the tunnel and then vanishes, presumably being seen for the last time on a college football field as a player. OPENING CREDITS ROLL Montage of sights from the vibrant, excited, flashy city of Miami is shown including more relaxed beach scenes during the day and the hot, high energy club scenes at night. EXT. LIBERTY CITY, DESOLATE STREET DAY In a stark contrast to the tourist-friendly, beautifullooking spots in Miami is Liberty City, a ghetto that past economic booms have seemed to ignored. The street is filled with dilapidated, or boarded up, houses and the periodic broken down car along the side of the road, some are even burned out. There are bullet holes in the windows of some of the houses, signifying past drive-by shootings and other random acts of violence. At the corner of one street is a burning trash can that was set on fire for seemingly no reason.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese A 1964 CANDY-COLORED CHEVY IMPALA rides down a street with its stereo system blasting hardcore southern rap music as it slowly passes by a small house with gated up windows and doors and a broken down 1988 black Honda Accord sitting in front of it; welcome to Devins house. EXT. DEVINS HOUSE IN LIBERTY CITY, BACKYARD DAY In the backyard of his old, rundown house, Devin sits with three of his hometown friends RAYMOND, JEROME and LaRON. Although all three friends are college-aged, only Devin is in school while the others work odd jobs to get by. The three friends are sitting at a plastic table passing a joint while Devin, who has to stay clean to pass periodic drug tests, stands a few feet away from them. RAYMOND D-boy, you want to get on this? DEVIN No man, Im cool. RAYMOND Ohh, thats right, good college boy cant smoke no weed. DEVIN Thats right, I dont need no red flags fucking with my eligibility or draft status. JEROME Why does it matter? Youre a superstar, you can do whatever you want. DEVIN I dont know about that. I just know I need to do whatever it takes to get me, my mama and my brothers and sisters out of this hellhole of a house in this shithole of an areaand weed isnt the path to do that. RAYMOND Fuck it, more weed for us then.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese LaRON So where do you think youre going to play? New York? Chicago? Stay home here in Miami? JEROME God, I hope you dont nowhere cold, as a boy in your entourage I dont think I can handle it. What about Tampa? They could use a good wide receiver. RAYMOND Can you imagine the partying we could do in Ybor city? LaRON The bitches are tasty up there. JEROME You know it dawg. So Devin, what do you think? DEVIN (nonchalantly) I dont know. JEROME You dont know? How can you not know? This is our future were talking about. DEVIN I know, I have to weigh a lot of things though. Devins youngest brother, DARNELL, whos barely four years old comes running into the backyard and gives Devin a big hug. LaRON Nigga, what the hell could you possibly have to weigh? Its pretty simple, go to the team thatll back up the truck with the biggest pile of money in it. DEVIN I know, but it aint that simple. I gotta think about whats best for me and my family, like my kid bro Darnell (MORE)

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN (contd) here. There are some things I want to do and I dont know if Ive done them yet. RAYMOND And us, you gotta think about whats best for us, your homies. DEVIN (laughs) Yeah, and my boys too. INT. DEVINS HOUSE, LIVING ROOM At night, Devin is sitting by himself in the sparsely decorated living room, which is filled only with a big screen TV, couch and broken end table, as a thunderstorm passes overhead. The room is lit only by the periodic lightning strike and the light emanating from the TV. Devin is watching on his DVR the play towards the end of the national championship game where he fumbles the ball. Once the play ends, he rewinds his DVR and re-watches it. A single tear forms in the corner of his eye and a look of frustration covers his face as he knows he let his team down even though he was the whole team. INT. UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN FLORIDA ATHLETIC COMPLEX LOBBY Two older, white-haired MALE BOOSTERS enter the front doors of the schools athletic complex and walk through the grand lobby, theyre in the middle of a conversation. OLDER MALE BOOSTER #1 Have you been over to the School of Business recently? OLDER MALE BOOSTER #2 Not in the past few months, hows the new building coming along?

11

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese OLDER MALE BOOSTER #1 Its looking good. In fact, its looking great, its huge, I didnt think it was going to be that big. It mustve cost a fortune. And theyre building that new studio and post-production facility for the School of Communications, just broke ground on it last week, right after the championship game. OLDER MALE BOOSTER #2 Its a wonder what a successful football program can do to a schools coffers and, in turn, what it can do to help the schools advancement. OLDER MALE BOOSTER #1 Isnt that the truth. Not to mention The benefits for the entire student body. I was reading in the recently released annual report that the number of applications has increased 23% over the last three years and overall donations to the school are up $200 million during the same time periodand thats not even including the increase in donations to the athletic department which is accounted for separately. OLDER MALE BOOSTER #2 God bless the football team. OLDER MALE BOOSTER #1 God bless Devin Marshall. Itll be a shame to lose him after today. OLDER MALE BOOSTER #2 Well hopefully his younger brothers are just as good as him. OLDER MALE BOOSTER #1 Theyre young though, right? Ones in junior high and the others in grade school? OLDER MALE BOOSTER #2 Its never too early to start thinking about the future though.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese The two boosters open a door and enter the PRESS ROOM Which is a small room filled with local sports reporters sitting in rows facing a podium with a Southern Florida Manatees step-and-repeat hanging behind it. A young MALE REPORTER is standing in the back of the room talking into the camera. MALE REPORTER AT PRESS CONFERENCE We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming on NBC to bring you local breaking news on Devin Marshalls press conference. Marshall is expected to announce hes leaving school early to enter the NFL Draft. Pundits and draft experts alike believe he will be the #1 pick in April. HALLWAY Devin walks through a crowded hallway filled with university officials, football coaches and fellow players as he heads to the press room. Many of them give him a hug, a handshake or a pat on the back fully expecting hell announce his early entry into the draft. PRESS ROOM He enters the room and walks onto the stage accompanied by the schools Sports Information Director who sets up his microphone on the podium and whispers some words of encouragement to get him relaxed before he delivers his speech. MALE REPORTER AT PRESS CONFERENCE (O.S.) And heres Devin Marshall who looks like hes now prepared to deliver his remarks. DEVIN Good morning. First Id like to thank the University for allowing me this forum to speak and for giving me the last three years of my life, which I can say have (MORE)

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN (contd) been my best three years of my life, even beating my time at Northwestern High where we won the 6A state championship three years in a row. Id also like to thank my teammates who are the best teammates a guy can ask for. Lastly, Id like to thank my fellow classmates and fans who have shown me incredible support ever since Ive stepped on campus. I cant begin to tell you what it means when I walk across campus heading to class and I hear people I dont know yell out Devo to me. It makes me feel like I do know yall, and I love that. Or when Im rushing for an eighty yard touchdown and Im struggling to get into the endzone during those last 10-15 yards. My legs are getting tired, my lungs are heavy, Im breathing deeply, but then I look up into the stands and I see 10,000 fans strong willing me into the endzone with their screams, hoots, hollering and cheers. I love yall. Every group that Ive mentioned is the reason for my success, not to mention my loving family obviously. Thats why this has been such an incredibly difficult decision for me to make. An emotional Devin pauses for a moment to regain his composure as he begins to breakdown, with a few tears forming. DEVIN (contd) I decided to beat myself up last night by re-watching the national championship game. That was truly an awful game for me to watch. This year Ive won every individual accolade one could win in college, including the Heisman. I have won a championship at every level of football Ive played going all the way back to second grade, except for college. I feel like I let my team down in that gameand no matter what my awesome (MORE)

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN (contd) teammates have said to console me after the game, it still wont change what I think is true. I dont want to go out on a fumble. I wont go out on a fumble. We have unfinished business to take care of next year at the University of Southern Florida and I am here to emphatically say that I will be coming back and playing my senior year in a Manatee uniform! With that the room explodes in wild celebration among the coaches and players that are standing alongside the walls. Even many of the sports reporters get into the act by standing up, applauding and high-fiving their fellow reporters next to them. MALE REPORTER AT PRESS CONFERENCE (O.S.) (excitedly) Whoaaa! Whoaaa! What an upset! Devin Marshall is coming back to school! Devin Marshall is coming back to school! Well folks, I think everyone will agree that this was well worth interrupting the Today Show to deliver this dose of real news! Devin gives a few waves to the crowd before walking off the stage and into the awaiting arms of coaches and players who give him a group hug. HALLWAY After the hugs, Devin walks down the corridor and is greeted by a big-time BOOSTER. The booster, an older gentleman dressed in a Manatee polo shirt and khakis, is cupping a folded up $100 bill in his hand. The booster pats Devins back and shakes his hand. $100 BOOSTER Good job young man, you made the right decision. Devin notices the booster has placed a $100 bill in his palm.

15

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN (perplexed) Whats this? $100 BOOSTER (innocently) Nothing, just consider it a little thank you present. DEVIN Im sorry, but I cant accept this sir. The booster pats him on the back again. $100 BOOSTER Dont worry about it, take it, keep it, take a girl out to a nice dinner, buy your mom a new dress, or something. Whatever. DEVIN Are you sure? $100 BOOSTER Of course Im sure. Please, Im the third largest car dealer in the South Florida region, you need that money a hell of a lot more than I do. You just make sure you bring the Manatees a championship next year. OK? DEVIN Sure thing. When Devin walks to the end of the hallway, and hes by himself, he looks down at the $100 bill in his hands and stares at it while a smile covers his face. INT. DEVINS HOUSE DEVINS BEDROOM Devin is resting on his bed, which consists of just a couple mattresses on the floor, when theres a knock on the door that wakes him up. DEVIN Who is it?

16

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVINS MOTHER Its your mama. DEVIN Come in. As Devin rubs his eyes to wake up, his mother enters the room with an angry look on her face. DEVIN Whats wrong? She waves the $100 bill in front of Devin. DEVINS MOTHER I found this on the kitchen table. Where did you get this from? Youre not selling drugs, are you? DEVIN No of course not. DEVINS MOTHER You dont want to fuck up your future, do you? No ones going to want to draft a crackhead, you know? DEVIN I know, thats why Im not selling drugs. DEVINS MOTHER Then where did you get this? DEVIN I dont know, some old guy gave it to me at school after I announced I was returning for my senior year. He just gave it to me. So I thought Id give it to you to help out around here. DEVINS MOTHER I dont get it Devin, ever since you were a high school junior, this family has been approached by schools, coaches, alumni, shady agents you name it, and weve been been offered money, dinners, groceries, cars, even a house. But every time, against my advice, youve refused (MORE)

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVINS MOTHER (contd) saying it might hurt your eligibility; it might hurt your earning potential down the road, whatever that means. So why? Why accept now? DEVIN I dont know. I guess I figure its time to get mine. Its time to get ours. Im doing a lot for this school by coming back for another year; while Im sacrificing a lot for the family in the process. And what do I get from the school? Do they pay me? No. I get patted on the back and told job well done. Well kind words dont put food on the dinner table. I really want to win a national championship but if Im going to come back and win a championship for the school, while forgoing the fortune that awaits me in the NFL for another year, then Im going to get mine. DEVINS MOTHER Im taking this money and paying bills. You can do what you want. Youre a big boy, making big boy decisions now. I just hope you know what youre doing because this family couldve used the signing bonus that you wouldve gotten if you were smart enough to declare for the draft this year. DEVIN Dont worry mama, well be fine. DEVINS SENIOR YEAR EXT. UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN FLORIDA, PRACTICE FIELD MORNING The Manatees are running drills under the hot sun in August, just prior to their first game of the season. During a 100-yard dash the coaches are yelling out words of encouragement to the team as Devin easily crosses the finish line first.

18

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese The teams head coach, COACH ALPERT, walks onto the field to bark orders. COACH ALPERT OK men, take a break to cool off! Devin walks over to a tub filled with ice and jumps in. Hes followed by a few other players that do the same thing in adjoining tubs. Once theyre all settled in, TRAINERS come over with buckets of ice TO pour them on their backs. FRESHMAN PLAYER Jesus, I cant believe it can get so hot down here. Its not even 11am. DEVIN Welcome to Miami, freshman. FRESHMAN PLAYER How hot do you think it is, 90? 95?

DEVIN Feels like 93. But its not the heat, its the humidity that gets a nigga. 93. FRESHMAN PLAYER How do you know that exactly? Where you

Devin looks to the side of him and sees one of his best friends, LIL DUKE, sitting in a tub. DEVIN (contd) In fact, you can carry Lil Dukes gear in as well. Devin sees one of the huge defensive linemen approach the tubs but there are none open for him. DEVIN Now freshman, get the hell out of the tub. We got one of our upper class Dlinemen looking to cool down, and believe me he wont wait for you to be done. The lineman, already impatient, walks over to the freshman and forcefully lifts him up out of the tub before he could get out himself. DEVIN Now, go take care of our equipment. The freshmen slowly walks away. DEVIN Son, you gotta show a little more hustle than that. The freshman starts sprinting over to Devins equipment which is lying on the field about twenty yards away. DEVIN (laughs) I can get used to being a senior Lil Duke. Devin gives Lil Duke a high-five across the tubs.

20

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese LIL DUKE You know it, all year long. The defensive lineman next to Devin decides to jump into the tub. LINEMAN IN TUB Cannonball! Once he jumps in, he displaces much of the existing ice which flies into the air and hits the surrounding players. DEVIN Nice bro, youre lucky you can kick my ass, or else Id be kicking yours. LINEMAN IN TUB OK, OK, settle down little man. DEVIN Hey, nuttin but love. Devin bangs his fist with the linemans. LIL DUKE Yo, so Devin wheres the party at tonight? DEVIN I dont know yet. I want to go out somewhere though. Its the first Thursday night with school back in session and you know what that meansnew set of freshmen honeys hitting the scene. LIL DUKE And its one of our last nights before we go into lockdown for game week practices. DEVIN Shit nigga, maybe youll have to go into lockdown, not me. LIL DUKE Come on Devin, we all have to go into lockdown mode. DEVIN Superstars dont go into lockdown.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese LIL DUKE So theres two sets of rules. you, one for the rest of us?

One for

DEVIN Yes. And you know why? Because Im a dual threat who can run a 4.3 40. I just hope Coach lets me run back a few punts this season. LIL DUKE Youre crazy Devin. DEVIN Ill get even crazier tonight. LIL DUKE Speaking of which, again, where we going? DEVIN I think theres only one place to go, Mansion. LIL DUKE (smiles) Mansion, I like it. A whistle blows as Coach Alpert walks off of the field and towards the tubs. COACH ALPERT (shouts) OK boys, practice is over. Make sure youre back here at 3p sharp though for afternoon practice. LIL DUKE You going to class? DEVIN (thinking) Hmmm, I guess so since its the first week. You know, I might as well meet the professors now since theres no telling when the next time Ill see them will be.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese EXT. - MANSION CLUB, SOUTH BEACH NIGHT Devin, Lil Duke and two other teammates, NATE and LAWRENCE, walk by a long line of club patrons who are waiting patiently to get in. Devin confidently marches right up to the BOUNCER at the front door who greets him warmly with a handshake and homeboy hug. The bouncer doesnt even have to look at his list since Devin has a standing invite to get in. MANSION BOUNCER Devo, whats up baby? DEVIN Hows it looking inside? Is it popping?

Just as the four guys are about to enter the club, a voice from the line shouts out to Devin. FREDDIE SMITH Devin, yo Devin, my man. Devin turns around and notices whos calling out to him so he walks over to the line where hes waiting to get in and gives Freddie a warm homeboy hug. DEVIN Yo Freddie. MANSION CLUB MANAGER Welcome Devin, Im club manager here and I just want to make sure you and your friends have everything you need. DEVIN Great, thanks. MANSION CLUB MANAGER Follow me. The manager leads him and his friends into the section and over to a table thats surrounded by couches with a bottle of BELVEDERE and an assortment of fruit mixers sitting in the middle of it. DEVIN This looks great. Who set this whole VIP thing up for us though? MANSION CLUB MANAGER Ahhh, your host should be joining you any minute. Please, have a seat and make yourself comfortable. The manager walks away from the table as the four guys sit down on the plush couches and make themselves comfortable. Lil Duke picks up a glass and shouts out to his fellow teammate, NATE. LIL DUKE Nate, hook me up with some of that Belvedere shit. Nate grabs the bottle and passes it over to Lil Duke who pours himself a big drink with only a small splash of orange juice.

JOSHUA ROSENBLATT, a short, Jewish guy in his earlythirties, approaches the VIP section in the company of two hot, young, scantily-clad AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN. Joshua is a schmoozer, a fast-talker and is all about flash and keeping up an image, complete with his gold necklace, expensive silk shirt and Gucci sunglasses being worn inside. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Hey, theres the boys! Devin and Lil Duke turn around and immediately look perplexed over this stranger entering their area. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Devin, Duke, Nate, Lawrence, the guys are all here! Sorry I didnt know how many of you were going to be out besides Devin so I only brought two girls with me. Here girls, sit. DEVIN Im sorry, have we met before? JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Devin, baby, come on, its me! OK, OK I know, youre a celebrity so you must meet hundreds of people a day, thousands of people a week. Look, no offense, I get it. Joshua approaches Devin and gives him a handshake. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT (contd) Im Joshua Rosenblatt, I met you a few times after practice last year. DEVIN Oh, so youre associated with the school? JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Well, yes and no. I dont work there, never went to school there, but I am a big time booster of the football program. I donated $100,000 last year alone. I have to do something with my money, since I have so god damn much of it, you know what Im saying? So I figured Id do something good with it and donate it to my favorite team.

28

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN Well I thank you, and my boys thank you. And we all thank you for the vodka. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Please, its the least I could do, especially since you boys will be responsible for bringing Southern Florida its first national championship in over 20 years. LIL DUKE Hell yeah to that! Duke holds up his glass and is joined by his three teammates for a toast. After they have their drink, Joshua extends his arm welcoming Devin and Duke to the couch. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT So come boys, lets take a seat and chat. Everyone takes a seat on the couch and gets comfortable. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT You know Devin, Im a little surprised that you took me up on my VIP table. Finally. Finally? DEVIN What do you mean finally?

29

JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Well Ive put you down on the VIP list here a few times before but you never took me up on it. DEVIN I wasnt a big clubgoer before my senior year, so I probably wasnt even here to begin with. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT In fact, Ive offered you quite a few things in the past but you never had an interest. Why the change of the heart?

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese Devin grabs his vodka, sits back on the couch to get more comfortable and puts his arm around one of the hot girls that Joshua brought with him. DEVIN I figured, if I want to be a superstar, I should start acting like a superstar. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT (laughs) I love the attitude! Thats the kind of attitude you need to stand out in a city like Miami. And thats the kind of attitude thatll win us a national championship. Devin diverts his eyes to several hot, young chicks getting loose on the dance floor. DEVIN You know, I think Im going to take you up on your offer. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Which one was that? DEVIN My right arm is a little cold, it could use some company. Devin nods his head over to the girls on the dance floor, which Joshua quickly picks up on. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Certainly Devin. What would you like? Black? White? Blonde? Brunette?... Redhead? LIL DUKE As long as shes hot and wet, does it really matter Devin? DEVIN Get me a white girl. Hair color? It dont matter, but make sure shes a 10. NATE Yeah and make sure she like fellatio too.

30

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese JOSHUA ROSENBLATT One white bitch coming up.

31

No problem.

Joshua raises his hand to call the club manager over. MANSION CLUB MANAGER Yes, Mr. Rosenblatt. Joshua whispers in his ear for a little bit while Lil Duke taps Devins fist in approval. MANSION CLUB MANAGER Absolutely Mr. Rosenblatt, coming right up. Joshua pours himself a drink as the club manager walks away to find Devin a girl. DEVIN Shit man, you can get girls just like that? JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Just like that. Aint no thing. NATE Thats even easier than how you pick up chicks Devin. DEVIN Shits crazy. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT You flash enough money in front of a girl and you can make her do anything. ANYTHING! DEVIN What do you do to make your cash money? JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Im in finance. LIL DUKE What do you do in finance?

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese JOSHUA ROSENBLATT (coyly) Ahhh, you dont really want to know, its boring bullshit. I basically move money around all day. DEVIN Thats right, we dont need to get into another mans shit because we wouldnt wanna someone to get into our shit. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Devin, I want to be your friend. Friends do things for each other, friends help out each other and take care of other friends. Will you be my friend? Joshua raises his glass in front of Devin who thinks for a moment. DEVIN I could always use more real friends. With that, Devin raises his glass as well and they toast in the middle of the table. This leads to a montage of their night in the club the guys drinking in the VIP section with the women multiplying at their table as the night goes on, bottle after bottle being delivered, dancing in the middle of the club with Devin making out with two girls at a time, Joshua walking around during the night making sure the guys are taken care of and giving hundred dollar bills to Devin. USF STADIUM, LOCKER ROOM KENT ROCKWELL, a well-groomed and polished sports reporter is standing next to Devin, microphone in hand, ready to interview him. KENT ROCKWELL Devin, tremendous game out there today, how did you feel getting back on the field after last seasons heartbreak? DEVIN Ohh, it felt great. It felt great taking the field with my fellow teammates again and showing our school, our fans and our coaches what we can do. It was a total team effort out there today, we came to play and I think we played well, all of us. KENT ROCKWELL You looked very crisp out there, already in mid-season form. What do you think was your best play today? DEVIN Well its not about me and its not about what my best play was. Its not something I think about or analyze. There were a lot of other guys on the field and each one of them deserve attention for playing great today. We put in a solid team effort and thats something we can all be proud of and something that I want to focus on. KENT ROCKWELL Spoken like a true, selfless superstar. Devin thank you very much and good luck to you for the rest of the season. Kent shakes Devins hand.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese Daniel makes his way up to Devin as he comes out of the stadium dressed in his warm-up gear and wearing sunglasses with his Beats by Dre headphones on. DANIEL SHAPIRO Devin, Devin. Daniel finally gets Devins attention so he takes his headphones off but doesnt lose his stride as he continues down the walkway. DANIEL SHAPIRO Great game out there today, wonderful game! He shakes Devins hand. DEVIN Mr. Shapiro, how you do? DANIEL SHAPIRO Not as well as you. You are masterful out there. DEVIN Thanks. DANIEL SHAPIRO So final year, everyone was shocked you came back for your senior year, especially me. DEVIN I want to win a national championship. DANIEL SHAPIRO Thats very noble, and NFL teams respect that, they love to see that kind of loyalty in prospects. DEVIN Well I dont know anything about that, I just want to win, win for my teammates, win for my coaches, and win for my fellow classmates. DANIEL SHAPIRO Have you given any thought about agent representation? The draft will be here before you know it.

35

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN Mr. Shapiro, Im well aware of the date of the draft. DANIEL SHAPIRO I know you are, youre a smart guy. DEVIN And I already have your business card from last year, so I know where to reach you if Im looking for representation. DANIEL SHAPIRO Im glad youve kept my card. DEVIN I keep everyones card. Kind of ballsy though to approach me outside of the stadium, in front of the team bus. DANIEL SHAPIRO I fish where the fishes areand I just wanted to show you my passion. (pauses) Listen, Im hosting a party at the Delano Thursday night, why dont you come as my guest? I can guarantee a good time. Therell be a lot of tits thereand plenty of ass. The two walk up to the team bus. Devin looks around and sees a black Mercedes Maybach convertible close by. DEVIN Is that your Maybach? DANIEL SHAPIRO (smiles) Well yes, yes it is. DEVIN OK, Ill attend your party, on one condition. DANIEL SHAPIRO Sure, anything, anything you want. Im here at your beck and call. Ill do whatever you need.

36

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN Can I drive to the party in your ride? DANIEL SHAPIRO (laughs) You got it! Hell you can drive if youd like. In fact, on top of that, Ill plan a couple of other surprises for you. A kid with your considerable talent should be treated like royalty, and I plan to do just that. DEVIN Alright then, count me in. Devin shakes Daniels hand. DANIEL SHAPIRO Great, you have a kickass week and Ill pick you up Thursday on campus. DEVIN OK good, should I give you my apartment address so you can find me? A city that is a gateway to three continents, Im going to take you global. Sure, Ill get you the Nike deals, the EA cover, the Gatorade sponsorship. But Im going to make you big in countries you never even heard ofIll have you selling cars in Paraguay and pitching soft drinks in Luxembourg. DEVIN Really? DANIEL SHAPIRO You doubt me? Thats OK, if you doubt me, then feel free to talk to the last four first round players that I rep. Guys like Junior Hemingway, Eddie Cooper, Johnny Brooks or Sky Johnson. Have you ever seen Coops house on Star Island? DEVIN No. DANIEL SHAPIRO Its enormous. You can almost see it from the causeway, but the view is usually blocked by the 80-foot yacht that he has docked there. And his collection of Range Rovers, unbelievable. I think he has six, but he might have picked up another one this past weekend, Im not sure. And you he know was the #23 pick in the draft. 23! DEVIN Not bad.

38

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DANIEL SHAPIRO Not bad? Fucking great. You can only imagine the riches that await you. But Devin, its not just about the money. Im personally offering my full services to you morning, noon and night. I will do anything for you. Ill spit blood for you. Ill kill, maim and murder for you. If you end up knocking up some hoodrat, I will throw that pregnant bitch down a flight of stairs if you wanted me to. DANIEL SHAPIRO So what do you say? You want to sign with me? DEVIN With all due respect Mr. Shapiro, but Im not at a point where Im thinking about this sort of stuff. I just want to have fun and enjoy my senior year. Ill figure everything out when the time is right. DANIEL SHAPIRO Oh sure, I get it. I want to have fun tooand I have just the way to get the party started. Daniel points to the side of the road. DANIEL SHAPIRO Here, pull over up there. Devin pulls over to the side of the road in front of a ridiculously HOT BLONDE in a skin tight short pink dress whos sitting at a bus stop. Daniel leans his head out of the car.

39

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DANIEL SHAPIRO Hey honey. The young lady seductively nods her head, winks her eye and waves at them. DANIEL SHAPIRO Do you know who I have here in the car? Its Devin Marshall, hes going to be a multi-millionaire in eight months. LORELEI, the hot blonde, stands up and slowly struts over to the Maybach while Daniel gets out of the car. DANIEL SHAPIRO Hello honey. He greets her with a warm kiss on the cheek and holds her hand as she gets in the front passenger seat while Daniel jumps into the back seat. DANIEL SHAPIRO Devin, meet my friend Lorelei. Lorelei, this is Devin, the big man on campus. DEVIN (nervously) Hi. LORELEI How do you do? Lorelei extends her hand so that Devin can shake it and seductively pushes her chest out towards him. DANIEL SHAPIRO So Devin, I figure before we go to the party, we should have a nice dinner at Prime 112. What do you think? DEVIN Sounds good. DANIEL SHAPIRO Do you know how to get there? DEVIN I think I can figure it out.

40

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DANIEL SHAPIRO Just head to the beach man, just head to the beach. Lorelei puts her hand on Devins knee and smiles at him. Daniel, who is sitting in the middle of the backseat but leaning forward so that he can easily chat, pats Devin on the shoulder to calm him down. DANIEL SHAPIRO (laughs) Devin, relax. Youre so uptight. I didnt think youd be like this in front of such an attractive blonde girl. Youre the man! Youre Devin fucking Marshall. DEVIN I know, but shes ridiculously hot. DANIEL SHAPIRO Why dont you tell her that? DEVIN (looks at Lorelei) Youre ridiculously beautiful, LoreLorel. LORELEI (laughs) Its Lorelei. Lorelei. DEVIN Thats a nice name.

Lorelei grabs Devins arm to feel his muscles.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese LORELEI Youre cute. I cant believe someone as muscular as you is nervous about being next to little ole me. Lorelei leans over and starts nibbling on his ear. DANIEL SHAPIRO Devin, come on bro, relax! DEVIN Its a little hard to since Im trying to drive. Daniel pats Lorelei on the shoulder to get her attention. DANIEL SHAPIRO Lorelei, if our friend is having such a hard time relaxing, why dont you make him relax? With that, Lorelei moves her hand from Devins arm down to his crotch and grabs it. That makes Devin sit up straight in his seat. LORELEI Id say its more than just a little hard, wouldnt you Devin? DANIEL SHAPIRO (laughs) Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. DEVIN What show? Lorelei unbuckles and unzips Devins jeans then goes down on him. DANIEL SHAPIRO That show. DEVIN Oh wow. Devin speeds down the fast lane as Lorelei is in the middle of her blowjob. Daniel leans forward again and pats Devin on his shoulder.

42

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DANIEL SHAPIRO Isnt this great?!? While your homeboys are stuck ridin around in their bustedass 1986 Honda Accords, youre getting your dick sucked by a big tittied blonde in the front seat of a brand new Mercedes Maybach convertible. Not bad, huh? DEVIN Being a future number one draft pick certainly has its privileges. Oh wow, shes good. DANIEL SHAPIRO Shes great! Girl knows how to suck a dick. I remember my first blowjob from her. It was magical. After that I knew you had to have her. As Lorelei goes down on him, she moves one of her hands up beneath his shirt and rubs his chest. The speedometer on the car creeps up to 100 miles per hour as Devin screams out in ecstasy having completed in her mouth. DEVIN Whoo hoo! Lorelei sits up, wipes her face and reapplies her fire red lipstick as she looks into the rear view mirror. DANIEL SHAPIRO Life is great, isnt it?!? DEVIN (smiles) It aint bad, it aint bad at all. Daniel puts out his hand as Devin high fives it. DANIEL SHAPIRO Whos hungry? DEVIN I could use a steak.

43

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese LORELEI I just had my steak for the evening, so I think Ill only have a salad. Lorelei pulls out a compact mirror and fixes her hair. LORELEI Youre not bad kid, not bad at all. INT. PRIME 112 RESTAURANT, SOUTH BEACH Devin, Daniel and Lorelei are all sitting at a table in the middle of the dining room. A bottle of red wine sits front and center. Daniel grabs the bottle and fills up Devins glass. DANIEL SHAPRIO Have another glass of wine Devin. do you think of it? You like? Devin has a sip of his wine. DEVIN Yes, its good. DANIEL SHAPIRO It better be for $500 a bottle. DEVIN $500? DANIEL SHAPIRO Yes. DEVIN Jesus, one of my buddies once bought some wine in a box, it didnt taste that much different than this. DANIEL SHAPIRO (laughs) Trust me Devin, this wine, is ummm, a little bit different than what you may have had before. Its made from only the finest grapes in France. The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DANIEL SHAPIRO (contd) finer things in life Devin, if youre going to be the highest paid player in the NFL next year. Devin looks over to Lorelei. DEVIN Well, I think I have good taste in women. DANIEL SHAPIRO Thats a start. But I want to make you into a true aficionado of clothes, wines and cars. Im going to refine you and make you into a sophisticated gentleman, thats how you become a pitchman from Liberty City to Luxembourg. Look at Michael Vick, he was a dog killing maniac when he came into the league, now hes walking around in thousand dollar suits. He was successfully rebranded. I crafted that. I crafted him. DEVIN This is all overwhelming Mr. Shapiro. Ive never had more than two quarters to rub together in my life but now Im driving Maybachs, getting unlimited bottle service in the VIP section of the hottest clubs on South Beach and getting head from ridiculously hot blondes, ridiculously hot. And now Im talking about being a pitchman in countries that Ive never heard of before And why? All because I run a 4.3 40 and have large enough fingers that can catch any ball thrown my way. DANIEL SHAPIRO Its the American dream, aint it grand? DEVIN It is, and I plan on milking this dream for everything I can. So fuck it. Devin signals the waiter who walks over to the table.

45

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese PRIME 112 WAITER Yes sir, how can I help you? DEVIN Ill take another three pound lobster. PRIME 112 WAITER Another one? DEVIN Sure. DANIEL SHAPIRO Yes, another lobster for my friend. In fact, well all take another three pound lobster. PRIME 112 WAITER Very good sir. The waiter takes the order and walks away. DANIEL SHAPIRO Fuck it, its only money right? And Im counting on you to make a shit ton of it for us! Daniel grabs Devins shoulder and playfully slaps him on the face. DANIEL SHAPIRO Right Devin, right?!? DEVIN (smiles) Sure Mr. Shapiro, whatever you say. Devin grabs the wine and starts drinking it straight from the bottle. DANIEL SHAPIRO Thats the spirit Devin. Daniel signals the waiter. DANIEL SHAPIRO Waiter, well take another bottle of wine too when you get a second.

46

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese Lorelei reaches over the table and grabs Devins hand. Daniel puts his arm around Devins shoulder and playfully pinches his cheeks. DANIEL SHAPIRO I love this kid! (pauses) Listen, howd you like that blowjob back in the car? DEVIN Ummm, I liked it. DANIEL SHAPIRO Cool, would you like to do it again? Lorelei licks her lips as Daniel speaks. DEVIN Yeah, Sure, I guess. DANIEL SHAPIRO OK, youre wish is my command. (looks at Lorelei) Loreleido what you do. Lorelei licks her lips again before looking around to make sure no ones watching them then, once the coast is clear, she sneaks under the table. DEVIN (shocked) Wait, right here? Right now? DANIEL SHAPIRO Sure Devin. You own this town, you can do whatever you want in this city and that includes blowjobs in the middle of crowded restaurants. Devin, clearly uncomfortable sitting at the table, looks like a man getting a blowjob as he slumps down in his chair while Daniel looks on with a big smile across his face. DANIEL SHAPIRO Pretty wild, right.

47

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN This is crazy.

48

Amazing.

This is crazy!

Daniel pats Devin on the back of his hand. DANIEL SHAPIRO If you think this is crazy, wait until you check out my party at the Delano. EXT. DELANO HOTEL NIGHT The Maybach pulls up to the front entrance of the hotel which is packed with other super luxurious vehicles and hopping with a lot of party revelers loitering outside. The guys are dressed trendy chic and the girls are wearing their best, barely there, nightlife outfits. The car is immediately greeted by a valet who opens the passengers side door and helps Lorelei out of the car. INT. DELANO HOTEL, PENTHOUSE SUITE The front door opens and in walks Devin, Daniel and Lorelei to join the party. LIVING ROOM AREA Devin is surprised to see all the action going on in the expansive living room area and takes some time to survey the scene: In the middle of the room, hot, scantily-clad girls are dancing with each other to high energy music that is being spun by a DJ in the corner of the room. The girls are drinking champagne right from the bottle. Four heavy, defensive line-looking men are sitting around a table playing cards. A couple of them are wearing obscenely large Super Bowl rings which Devin quickly notices. A bunch of other NFL players are hanging out in another corner of the room playing dice against the wall with hundred dollar bills littering the floor around them. The game is extremely fast paced with the dice being thrown every couple of seconds and guys collecting or putting down money on the floor depending on their luck at breakneck speed.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese Two very attractive girls are sitting on a couch making out with each other while each holding a glass of champagne. Several guys hanging out in the open-aired kitchen area cutting up lines of coke on the counter and taking turns snorting them up. DEVIN Jeez, what the hell is this place? DANIEL SHAPIRO Its my own personal hedonism. DEVIN And you do this all the time? DANIEL SHAPIRO A few times a month. DEVIN Ridiculous. Joshua Rosenblatt, an attendee at the party, comes up to the three with a half-drank bottle of scotch. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT (jovially, but drunk) Whats up brother!?!

49

Devin!

DEVIN Hello Mr. Rosenblatt. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT I shouldve known youd be hanging out with Shapiro one of these days. DANIEL SHAPIRO Josh, I was about to show Devin a good, time, a really good time. Why dont you join us? JOSHUA ROSENBLATT I certainly will. Daniel puts his arm around Devin and leads him into the party followed by Joshua.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese This leaves Lorelei at the front door by herself wondering what shes going to do. After a few moments, she just shrugs her shoulders and joins the party by herself. The three guys walk over to the table where the four NFL players are playing cards and interrupt their game. DANIEL SHAPIRO Gentlemen, I wanted to introduce you to NFL PLAYER IN CARD GAME Shapiro you fool, you dont need to introduce D Marsh. Whats up player? The player, whos genuinely happy to meet Devin continues playing his game while hardly missing a beat. DEVIN Whats up guys?!? Yo man, I remember seeing you in the Super Bowl a few years ago. You were off the chain! NFL PLAYER IN CARD GAME Truth. DEVIN How do you like playing for the Dolphins now? NFL PLAYER IN CARD GAME City is awesome, team sucks though. I have to carry these fuckers on my back every damn weekend. I get tired of that shit. Maybe we can get lucky and draft your ass this year. You could probably help us out right now. Devin eyes his huge Super Bowl ring which sparkles brightly under the dim lighting. DEVIN Thats an awesome Super Bowl ring. I try it on? Can

50

DANIEL SHAPIRO Yes, try it on, get used to the feeling since youre going to be wearing at least six of these one day. Just make sure (MORE)

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DANIEL SHAPIRO (contd) you put three on one hand, three on the other so you dont tip over! The NFL player takes off his ring and gives it to Devin who holds it up to the light, looks at it then puts it on. DANIEL SHAPIRO You look like a natural with that on kid. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT But Devin, concentrate on winning a national championship ring first though. DEVIN No doubt, Mr. Rosenblatt. NFL PLAYER IN CARD GAME You do look tight with that bling. Devin looks at the NFL player and notices that hes bleeding from the nose. DEVIN Yo man, you bleeding from the nose. The NFL player wipes his nose and notices blood on his hand. Instead of being shocked, he just shrugs his shoulder. NFL PLAYER IN CARD GAME #2 (laughs) Ha, you lightweight! DEVIN (perplexed) Whys that? NFL PLAYER IN CARD GAME No big deal, sometimes when I do a lot of coke my nose bleeds. The NFL player blows his nose into his hand leading to blood piling up in his palm. NFL PLAYER IN CARD GAME #2 Thats cause youre a lightweight and cant handle your drugs.

51

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese NFL PLAYER IN CARD GAME Fuck off dick. Daniel, wanting to shield him from too much crazy shit at this point, quickly ushers him away from the table. DANIEL SHAPIRO Come on Devin, I want you to meet some ladies over here. Before being pushed away, Devin takes the ring off and puts in down on the table. DEVIN Thanks for letting me know what it feels like to be awesome. That was official! The three guys walk into the middle of the room and survey the scene of all the hot girls dancing. Daniel quickly approaches a girl and whispers into her ear. Then all three get right into the action and start dancing. DANIEL SHAPIRO Devin, these girls are all for you, all for us! So just have fun. Daniel puts his hands on the ass of the girl hes dancing with then grabs her champagne bottle and takes a drink from it. Devin, dancing apprehensively with his own girl which was the same one who Daniel whispered to, tries to make polite conversation. DEVIN So, whats your name? The girl takes a large gulp of champagne, grabs his crotch, brings him in closer to her and gives him a passionate kiss, spitting the champagne into his mouth during it. DEVIN OK, I guess you aint too much into small talk. GIRL DANCING AT DANIELS PARTY Just shut up and danceand be ready to fuck me later.

52

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese Devin notices on the other side of the room that Lorelei, who has been hanging around the group of guys that are playing dice, is talking to one of the football players. At a break in the game, the player grabs Loreleis hand and walks her into a nearby bathroom. She makes quick eye contact with Devin right before closing the door behind her. After that, Devin gets more interested in the girl that hes dancing with. DEVIN Ahhh girl, Im going to rock your motherfucking world later tonight. Shits gonna get crazy. GIRL DANCING AT DANIELS PARTY Ohhh, I cant wait. DEVIN Girl, youll be walking with a limp til Tuesday once I get through with you. GIRL DANCING AT DANIELS PARTY You promise? DEVIN Fuck and yes. Devin grabs her bottle of champagne and starts pounding it. Joshua, whos dancing with a girl of his own next to Devin, passes him a bump of coke. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Devin, its time to kick this party up a notch. DEVIN Ohhh, I dont know. I have a game in two days. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Yeah, in two days. Not tonight. be fine. Youll

GIRL DANCING AT DANIELS PARTY Ohhh coke. I love coke!

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese The girl leans over and whispers into Devins ear. GIRL DANCING AT DANIELS PARTY It makes sex so much better. She playfully licks his ear then kisses him. DEVIN Ohh what the hell, you only live once. Devin takes the bump. GIRL DANCING AT DANIELS PARTY There you go honey. Joshua passes over another bump to Devin. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Here, give one to your lady friend so she can get in on the action. The girl takes a bump followed by him taking another bump and her taking another one too. They make out sloppily in the middle of the room as they continue their dirty dancing. Daniel is dancing with his girl next to Joshua. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT My guy is growing up right in front of our very eyes. I love it. DANIEL SHAPIRO That guy is going to do a lot of good for us. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT I cant wait. EXT. DELANO HOTEL, PENTHOUSE BALCONY NIGHT Later in the night, Daniel and Joshua are hanging out on the balcony watching the waves crash into the beach down below as they enjoy a bottle of scotch and cigars together. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Once again Danny, a kick ass party, you outdid yourself tonight.

54

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DANIEL SHAPIRO Yeah, I fucked this sweet Swedish model in the master bedroom earlier. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT I did mine, a Russian wannabe actress, right on the fucking beach down below. DANIEL SHAPIRO Thats good man. A wannabe actress? So, what is she? A waitress on Brickell? JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Lincoln Road actually. Some Latin fusion restaurant. Whatever. DANIEL SHAPIRO Very good. The two men toast with a glass of scotch. Suddenly, Devin appears at the balcony door with his arms around a hot African-American and white girl, holding a bottle of champagne. DANIEL SHAPIRO Devo, come on out here! Devin stumbles out onto the balcony with the girls, hes obviously drunk. Once outside, Daniel puts his arm around Devin. DANIEL SHAPIRO You having a good time? DEVIN Im having a fucking great time. The ass in here is insane. A lot better than what I see in Liberty City or on campus. DANIEL SHAPIRO Hey man, what can I say, I get grade A meat. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Just call this man Frank Perdue.

55

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DANIEL SHAPIRO Well I do specialize in getting top quality chickenheads. Devin spins the African-American girl around so that her back is facing the guys, then pulls up her tight microskirt to reveal her thong. DEVIN I mean, look at this girl?!? Look at her ass? You cant get any tighter than that ass! JOSHUA ROSENBLATT No, no you cant. Devin playfully slaps her ass. GIRL WITH GREAT ASS (laughs) Ohhh, stop Devin! DEVIN Go ahead, slap her ass. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Nah, Im ok. DEVIN Come onslap that ass! JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Im good, Im good. DANIEL SHAPIRO Fuck it, Ill do it. Daniel, winds up and gives the girl a hard spank leading to a little red welt on her ass. DEVIN Damn Shapiro, you a freak! DANIEL SHAPIRO You know it. GIRL WITH GREAT ASS Oww, that kind of hurt.

56

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN Ohh, dont worry baby, Ill rub that ass later to make it feel better. Devin gives her a kiss on the cheek. GIRL WITH GREAT ASS You better. Two other girls, one an African-American and one white, walk up to the balcony door. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Ohh yeah, more ladies! AFRICAN AMERICAN GIRL ON BALCONY We heard Devin was out here, where is he? Devin turns around to be recognized and is immediately smitten with the two attractive ladies. DEVIN Well hello ladies. AFRICAN AMERICAN GIRL ON BALCONY Hi, youre a lot more sexy in person than on the TV, isnt she Cara? CARA He really is. Devin turns to Joshua and gives him his bottle of champagne. DEVIN Well gentlemen, I enjoyed the fresh air out here but its time for me to handle some business. (looks at the ladies) Ladies, are you all ready to party with me? AFRICAN AMERICAN GIRL ON BALCONY Sure. CARA Yeah, Im down.

57

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN OK then Devin looks around and picks up the white girl that originally came out to the balcony with him then puts her over the balcony and fakes dropping her. DEVIN (contd) Lets go. Whoa!!!! WHITE GIRL ON BALCONY Stop it, stop it Devin!

58

Daniel instinctively rushes over to the balcony to try to help the girl up and make sure Devin doesnt do anything stupid. DANIEL SHAPIRO Calm down Devin. The last thing you need to do is accidentally kill a white broad. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Yeah, the media will let you get away with a lot but probably not that. Devin lifts her up and puts her in a fireman carry. DEVIN (laughs) Ha, ha, Im just kidding.

Relax girl!

WHITE GIRL ON BALCONY Whoa, youre silly. DANIEL SHAPIRO Dont worry, if you dropped her I wouldve covered it up for you anyways. Because thats what I do for my friends! DEVIN Word. WHITE GIRL ON BALCONY Put me down! DEVIN No way, youre coming with me. (MORE)

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN (contd) (slaps her on the ass) In fact all you hoes are coming with me! With the girl on his shoulder, Devin grabs the hands of the two African-American girls next to him and leads everyone back into the hotel suite followed closely by the other white girl. DEVIN Lets party! All four girls shout out in excitement as they walk inside while Joshua and Daniel watch Devin in admiration. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT God I wish I was his age all over again. DANIEL SHAPIRO And that you could run a 4.3 40. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Yeah that too. DANIEL SHAPIRO And be two feet taller. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Yeah, yeah I get it. Jesus, that kid has everything he wants at his disposal. Women, booze, drugs, money, cars, houses, More women. Everything. DANIEL SHAPIRO Its great, isnt it. The two men look back over the balcony to the waves below and continue drinking their scotch while they do one more toast. DANIEL SHAPIRO To our boy Devin. DEVIN To Devin.

59

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese INT. DELANO HOTEL, PENTHOUSE SUITE NEXT MORNING MASTERS BEDROOM The rising sun is peeking through the window curtains as Devin is sleeping in the middle of a king-sized bed flanked by two women on each side of him two white girls and two African-Americans. After a few moments Devin, who fell asleep with him arms around all of the girls, awakes. Groggy, Devin takes a little bit to realize where he is. The woman laying next to him wakes up as well and immediately tries to snuggle with him. GIRL IN BED (smiles) Hey stud. You were quite the rock star last night. DEVIN Where am I? GIRL IN BED Youre at the Delano silly. DEVIN Who are you? (looks around at the other girls) In fact who are all these girls? GIRL IN BED You met us at the party. DEVIN No shit? Thats cool. (looks around again) What time is it? GIRL IN BED (laughs) You ask a lot of questions. Why dont you shut up and let me take care of your morning wood for you? Devin pushes her away just as she attempts to go down on him.

60

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN No stop, I have to figure shit out. Devin sits up to try to locate a clock in the room, once he finally finds one and notices that it says 7:15 he immediately jumps out of bed in a huff, knowing that hes in trouble for oversleeping. DEVIN Shit, Im screwed. Im so late, coach is going to kick my ass. Devin, dressed in only his boxers, hastily grabs his jeans and buttoned-down shirt off of a chair and puts them on. Devin rushes out of the room and into the LIVING ROOM AREA Where Daniel is busy cooking up bacon and scrambled eggs in the open-aired kitchen that borders the room. Hes pretty relaxed, dressed in sandals, shorts and a polo shirt. DANIEL SHAPIRO Hey Devin! My man, pull up a seat. Im almost done with the scrambled eggs. Devin walks over to the balcony doors and opens the blinds revealing a perfectly sunny morning on Miami Beach. DEVIN I have to leave, I have practice at 8. DANIEL SHAPIRO Oh sure, Ill make you a plate to go and Ill have one of my guys drop you off at campus. Youll probably even have five minutes to spare. DEVIN What the hell happened last night? DANIEL SHAPIRO A little bit of coke and a whole lot of booze. It was good times. DEVIN (mortified) I did coke?

61

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DANIEL SHAPIRO We all did. DEVIN But DANIEL SHAPIRO (interrupts) Dont worry about anything Devin, it only stays in your system for 24 hours. Youll be fine if you have to take a piss sample after your game this weekend. Please, as your future agent I wouldnt do anything to fuck your shit up. DEVIN And the girls? DANIEL SHAPIRO (smiles) I knew youd like them. DEVIN Yes, but who are they? DANIEL SHAPIRO Just some girls I know. DEVIN Are they whores? DANIEL SHAPIRO Whore is such a nasty, derogatory word. Theyre professionals, no different than myself, and no different than what youll be in eight months. We all whore ourselves out for one reason or another, mostly because were trying to please other people; totally selfless acts if you ask me. DEVIN What happened to Lorelei? DANIEL SHAPIRO I dont know, I think she went home with one of the Dolphins that was here.

62

Sure did.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN (perplexed) I lost out to a Dolphin? Daniel brings a glass of orange juice over to Devin. DANIEL SHAPIRO (laughs) Believe me, you didnt seem like a guy that cared what happened to her last night. Not when you were busy getting fed grapes by four hot chicks. DEVIN They were hot. DANIEL SHAPIRO And theyll only get hotter in the NFL. DEVIN Look, thanks for a great night Mr. Shapiro but I have to get going. DANIEL SHAPIRO OK, fair enough. Take my Maybach. Daniel hands over his car keys to Devin. DEVIN Are you sure? DANIEL SHAPIRO Sure. Ill have someone pick it up on campus. DEVIN Thanks, youre a lifesaver. DANIEL SHAPIRO In fact, dont even worry about it, keep the fucking car. DEVIN What? DANIEL SHAPIRO Well youre going to need some way to pretend to drive to your no show job.

63

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN What do you mean? DANIEL SHAPIRO I got a buddy that owns a Mercedes dealership on U.S. 1. He told me that he could hook you up with a job. DEVIN (interrupts) But practice, how can I find time to hold a job? DANIEL SHAPIRO (laughs) Ha, youre not getting it Devin. Its a no show job. You dont have to show up for it. DEVIN But I still get paid? DANIEL SHAPIRO Base salary plus commissions. DEVIN Commissions off of what? DANIEL SHAPIRO Oh, my buddy will figure something out. Youll probably just be asked to make an appearance here and there every once in a while at his dealership. No big dealand for that, youll be a salaried employee with commission. Sound good? Sounds great. must be going. DEVIN But Mr. Shapiro I really

64

DANIEL SHAPIRO Sure. Go get em. Ill see you at the game on Saturday. And with that, Devin runs out of the hotel room.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese INT. USF ATHLETIC COMPLEX, COACH ALPERTS OFFICE Coach Alpert is sitting behind his desk answering his emails when theres a KNOCK on his door. COACH ALPERT Yeah, come on in. In walks Devin, whos dressed in his workout clothes, still sweating profusely from the morning practice. He stands obediently in front of the coachs desk. DEVIN You wanted to see me coach? COACH ALPERT Ahhh, there he is, my star player. Let me ask you something, what the fuck did you do last night? DEVIN (innocently) What do you mean? COACH ALPERT You came to practice smelling like a toxic mix of Alize, marijuana and come. DEVIN Coach, I didnt smoke weed last night, I swear to god. COACH ALPERT But you did party last night? DEVIN Well you did say I smelled like come. COACH ALPERT (takes off his glasses) You think this is funny? DEVIN Not at all, sir. COACH ALPERT You do realize if you were anyone else on this team, Id suspend your ass for (MORE)

65

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese COACH ALPERT (contd) multiple games for showing such disrespect to me and the team. But I cant, unfortunately I cant suspend the almighty Devin Marshall. The alumni and boosters would have my ass if that happened. Id be run out of town before the next game. DEVIN I think youre blowing this way out of proportion. I was lighting it up out there today. COACH ALPERT Of course you were, thats cause youre youre a superstar. But that doesnt change the fact that you still disrespected not only me but your teammates as well. DEVIN Sorry coach. COACH ALPERT I have to make some sort of example out of you, but not something that hurts this team or hurts you. Because god forbid I do anything to hurt you. I dont need the NFL, the alumni, boosters, major companies or agents all over the country on my ass. So youre running steps in the stadium until I tell you otherwise. DEVIN (angrily) Are you kidding me? COACH Sorry Devin, I have sort of punishment, learn that the same ALPERT to give you some or else youll never rules apply to you.

66

DEVIN They shouldnt apply to me! You said it yourself, Im a superstar. I should have my own set of rules! COACH ALPERT Really?

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN Coach, you know me, Im going to bust my ass this Saturday during the game. Fuck it, I busted my ass during practice today and I was-hung-the fuck-over with only two hours sleep and I still represented out there! Im the fucking truth. Im a fucking soldier! And soldiers fucking fight no matter what adversity theyre faced with. COACH ALPERT Lower your tone. You might be the truth but I still own your ass while you wear that Manatees jerseyand thats no lie. DEVIN (interrupts) You dont know how wrong that statement is. COACH ALPERT (ignores him) And while youre on this team, youll do what I say. And youre going to run steps. DEVIN This is ridiculous. COACH ALPERT Go on, get out of here. Start your steps at this afternoons practice, both at the begin and the end. DEVIN Im going to make it my mission at the game this weekend to shove this punishment up your ass and show you what I can really do. COACH ALPERT I look forward to itanything that makes me look good.

67

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese EXT. USF, PRACTICE FIELD AFTERNOON Devin is running up and down the stadium steps while the rest of the team is practicing on the field behind him. Devin, huffing and puffing out of breath, makes it to the top of the stadium then keels over to catch his breath. After a few moments of him standing still, Coach Alpert, who is far below on the field, blows his whistle to get Devins attention. COACH ALPERT (shouts) I didnt say stop Devin! Devin shoots the coach the evil eye then immediately runs back down the stadium steps as the team continues to practice in the background. EXT. UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN FLORIDA STADIUM DAY During the next game, Devin single-handedly destroys the other team on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Showing off a newfound cockiness, arrogance and swagger, Devin does a flamboyant celebration focused on himself after each major play he makes. After an inception, he jumps up and does a dance for five to ten yards down the field. After a long touchdown reception, Devin runs over to the student section and throws his arms up to wildly high-five everyone in the stands then gyrates his body to a Macarenatype dance to the delight of the students. Devin makes an incredible one-handed catch for a first down before stepping out of bounds then makes an obnoxious first down gesture. As he walks back to the huddle, he passes by his head coach whos throwing up his hands in anger over Devins over-thetop antics. In response, Devin just shrugs his shoulders as if to say what do you want from me and continues back to the huddle.

68

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese Later, after sacking the quarterback on a corner blitz, Devin stands up, grabs his crotch and shakes his hips. After another long touchdown reception, Devin mockingly tries to hand the ball to his defender, who doesnt accept it, then does a standing back flip showing off his acrobatic ability. Once the clock mercifully runs down to zero in the 4th quarter of a blowout game that sees Devins team win 56-0, he runs to the middle of the field and leads a crazy, seductive and downright inappropriate line dance with several of his teammates. Afterwards, Devin runs off the field, high-fiving anyone that he passes then jumps into the stands to bask in the adulation of his fellow students before making his way to the tunnel. Once hes at the tunnel, Devin unselfishly decides to sign a few autographs for the YOUNGSTERS that have gathered around the opening in hopes of getting a close-up glimpse of him. After about four or five autographs, he gives a final wave to the crowd, grabs his helmet and runs into the tunnel. INT. USF STADIUM, LOCKER ROOM Once again the local sports reporter, Kent Rockwell, is conducting a post-game interview of Devin. Whereas Devin was humble and downright gentlemanly during his last interview with Kent, hes taken a complete 180 degree turn this time around acting very conceited and being obnoxious. KENT ROCKWELL Devin, few thought that you could put together a game as good as you did in the first week of the season, but you managed to do just that. You were incredible out there and you really did put on a clinic against the number eight team in the country. They were no slouch coming into the game.

69

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN Well I know that Im the greatest athlete in college football and I just want to go out there and show the world that Im the truth. And well you saw it on the field today. I am the greatest. KENT ROCKWELL I dont think youll find anyone to argue that, but credit has to go to the rest of your teammates as well. You guys held the University of Illinois scoreless, in fact they never even got past the thirty yard line. DEVIN Yeah, well they did alright, they did alright. They were able to do some good things when I got them in position. But I was a beast out there and Im looking forward to going to New York later this season for the second time in as many years for the Heisman ceremony. Im going back to back. KENT ROCKWELL Thats a pretty bold statement to make so early in the season. DEVIN Come on Kent, youve seen me out on the field so far this season. Who can stop me? Nobody. The only thing that can stop me is me and I dont plan on being my own barrier. KENT ROCKWELL I must say Devin, youre showing a new level of confidence that we have never seen from you before. DEVIN Its 305 pride. Thats what were all about. Confidence is whats going to bring me to the next level. If youre not confident in this game, youre dead. Im a winner, I have confidence, I have that swagger that people dream of having. (MORE)

70

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN (contd) You hear that Mr. NFL? Im coming for you, Im coming for all you bad boys. You havent seen a bad boy until you see me. Im the real bad boy. KENT ROCKWELL Well there you have it, straight from Devins mouth. While theres still plenty of weeks left in the college football season, Devin Marshall has officially put the NFL on notice. Back to the studio. With that the camera turns off and Kent puts his microphone down. Devin turns back around and rifles through his locker for something. With the official interview over, and both Kent and Devin relaxed, Kent decides to ask him a question. KENT ROCKWELL That was an interesting interview Devin. DEVIN Yeah. KENT ROCKWELL Did you mean all of that stuff you said? DEVIN What stuff? KENT ROCKWELL About being the greatest, being a bad boy. DEVIN I sure the fuck did. KENT ROCKWELL Wow. DEVIN Wow, what? KENT ROCKWELL I dont know, you just sound different than before.

71

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN Hey man, I just want to be real. Im sick of being everyones puppet. A puppet to this school, a puppet to my coach. I just want to be me. I aint no Uncle Tom or the white mans bitch. Its exhausting to be someone I aint and I got tired. I want to be the real me. KENT ROCKWELL So are you saying theres issues between you and Coach Alpert. Devin gets ready to answer the question but stops himself after remembering that hes talking to a sports reporter, even if it is off the record. DEVIN (smirks) Oh no, forget it. What? KENT ROCKWELL This is completely off the record.

72

DEVIN (sarcastically) Sure. Look, I might not be a genius, but I aint an idiot either. Get your scoops from somewhere else. KENT ROCKWELL OK, let me ask you another question DEVIN (interrupts) Question time is over for the day. more comments. KENT ROCKWELL But Devin grabs a backpack from his locker, slings it over his shoulder and starts walking away. DEVIN (interrupts again) Nope. Im done. See you in a week from now after the next victory.

No

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese INT. DANIEL SHAPIROS MANSION PRIVATE STUDY Its late at night and the room is pitched dark, all is quiet. Suddenly, the phone RINGS. It rings a few times before Daniel, whos wearing a full length robe and glasses, enters, turns on the lights and answers the phone. DANIEL SHAPIRO Hello? DEVIN (panicked) Ohh man, Mr. Shapiro I fucked up. fucked up big time. DANIEL SHAPIRO Devin? DEVIN (close to tears) Yeah, its me. I fucked up. DANIEL SHAPIRO What happened? DEVIN I fucked up. DANIEL SHAPIRO Where are you? Ill come over. DEVIN Im on Key Biscayne. DANIEL SHAPIRO What the fuck are you doing out there in the middle of the night? DEVIN I just wanted to get away from everything. DANIEL SHAPIRO OK, Ill be out there in 10 minutes, dont go anywhere.

73

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese EXT. DANIEL SHAPIROS MANSION - NIGHT Daniel pulls out of his driveway in a fire red FERRARI, peels out and speeds down the road. EXT. KEY BISCAYNE, CRANDON PARK BEACH NIGHT Devin is sitting on the beach looking out over the peacefulness of the water. He is looking very distraught. In contrast, Daniel Shapiro is standing next to him laughing after hearing Devins problem. DEVIN (annoyed) Im glad you can find this funny. DANIEL SHAPIRO Im sorry, but hearing your problem is a load off my mind. DEVIN What do you mean? DANIEL SHAPIRO Well shit Devin, when you called me all distraught I thought you killed someone. This, this is nothing. DEVIN You dont think knocking up a stripper from King of Diamonds is a big thing? DANIEL SHAPIRO In the general scheme of things? No.

74

DEVIN How can you say that? This bitch can destroy my image. Not to mention take a shitload of my money when I start earning legitimately. DANIEL SHAPIRO Do you know its yours? DEVIN Well I did fuck her in the VIP room one night when we went over there. And Id (MORE)

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN (contd) have to believe that Im fertile as fuck, I am Superman after all. DANIEL SHAPIRO Yes, good point. And no protection? DEVIN Fuck no, Im not a bitch! I meant to pull out and aim it at her face, but during the moment, she grabbed a hold of my ass. It surprised me and I ended up finishing in her. DANIEL SHAPIRO That freeloading bitch. You got to understand that shit like that is going to happen now that youre a superstar. Chicks are going to find any way they can get themselves impregnated by you. Its easy to throw away a bitch, not so much a kid. And definitely not one that they can prove is yours. DEVIN Shit, what the hell am I going to do? I dont want to have a kid with a stripper, and I definitely dont want to raise one. DANIEL SHAPIRO Hey, remember what I said to you a while back? (pauses) Id do anything for you. If you end up knocking up some hoodrat, I will throw that pregnant bitch down a flight of stairs if you wanted me to. Ill do anything for you, and Im willing to cover it up. DEVIN You for real? DANIEL SHAPIRO Yeah, you think that was bullshit? not a bullshitter. Im

75

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN Youd do that for me? DANIEL SHAPIRO Of course. Thanks. DEVIN Youre a good man.

76

DANIEL SHAPIRO Dont mention it. Devin reaches out to shake Daniels hand. helps Devin to his feet. DANIEL SHAPIRO Come on, lets go home. DEVIN So, do you think DANIEL SHAPIRO (interrupts) Devin, please, dont give this another thought. Ill take care of it, and trust me youll never hear from her again. You can put all of this unfortunate shit out of your head forever. You have nothing to worry about. EXT. KING OF DIAMONDS GENTLEMENS CLUB DAY Devins knocked-up stripper drives into the parking lot in her blue MUSTANG. The stripper, whos African-American, parks her car and applies her lipstick in her rearview mirror as she readies for her early shift at the club. As she gets out of the car, shes immediately approached by two ROBBERS dressed in all black and wearing black ski masks. They dont say anything and just attack her. Theres a struggle and she tries her hardest to fight back, but shes no match for the two much bigger robbers. She screams out but theres no one around to come to her aid. In turn, Daniel

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese During the struggle, one of the masked men punches her in the face but she doesnt fall down, then the other masked man does a spinning roundhouse kick to her stomach which drops her on her ass. For good measure, one of the men grabs her head and slams it against her car door while the other one picks up her purse and drapes it around his shoulder so that it looks like a robbery. Finally, they pick her up and throw her back into her car so that no one will see her lying in the parking lot and theyll have time to escape. EXT. UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN FLORIDA CAMPUS DAY Devin is walking across the open-air grounds of the campus with Nate and Lil Duke while being trailed by some gushing female students. Devin has his chest out and walking confidently in the middle of his teammates, clearly acting like the leader of the group. He surveys the scene in the quad area and notices his fellow male students looking at him with respect while the females are staring at him, seemingly in a trance over his good-looks and built body. DEVIN I own this campus. NATE Hell yeah you do. DEVIN (quietly to himself) I fucking own it. NATE So you ready for the exam today? DEVIN Oh shit, thats today right? NATE Yeah.

77

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN Fuck it, I dont want to take it. In fact, I dont even want to go to class. NATE Yeah but you have to take the exam. DEVIN The hell I do. NATE If you dont take it youre going to fail. DEVIN The hell I will. Youre not using your head Nate Dogg. Devin looks around campus and notices an African-American male student walking towards them so he calls out to him. DEVIN Yo my nigga. AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALE STUDENT (confused) Yeah, whats up Devin? DEVIN Hey, have you ever taken? (pause) Yo Nate, what class are we going to? NATE (laughs) Shit nigga, you are in trouble if you dont even know what class were going to. DEVIN Yeah, yeah, yeah, just tell me. NATE Astronomy 101. DEVIN So my brotha, have you ever taken Astronomy 101?

78

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALE STUDENT Last year. DEVIN What grade did you get? AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALE STUDENT I dont know, probably a B. Maybe B-. DEVIN Good enough. Devin reaches into his pocket, pulls out a crisp $100 bill and gives it to the student. DEVIN (contd) Heres $100, all you have to do is take my exam for me next period. Youll be doing this school a big favor. If I fail, I might be suspended from the team and no one wants that. Be a hero, take my exam. AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALE STUDENT Sure, not a problem. DEVIN Thanks bro. But if you fail, Im going to come find you and kick your ass. The student walks away while Devin and his buddies continue walking. DEVIN Yep, I own this campus. NATE Where did you get that crisp $100 bill? DEVIN My sugar daddy. NATE Whos your sugar daddy? DEVIN Who isnt these days?

79

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese NATE OK, so what are you going to do now with your free period? DEVIN Ill find someone to do. After walking a few more steps, a giddy, sweet, nave white female student rushes up to Devin with a friend in toe, holding a pen and paper. FEMALE STUDENT ASKING FOR AUTOGRAPH Excuse me, Devin. DEVIN Whats up honey? FEMALE STUDENT ASKING FOR AUTOGRAPH Can I get your autograph? DEVIN You serious? FEMALE STUDENT ASKING FOR AUTOGRAPH Yeah, I think youre just awesome. I go to every single home game. Im probably the loudest person cheering you on in the student section. For real? DEVIN Thats cool.

80

FEMALE STUDENT ASKING FOR AUTOGRAPH So, do you think I could get your autograph? Ill be really grateful. Devin subtly looks her up and down for a moment. DEVIN Girl, Ill give you more than that. FEMALE STUDENT ASKING FOR AUTOGRAPH (confused) What do you mean? INT. THE GIRLS DORM ROOM Devin is on top of the girl under the covers of her bed in the middle of having sex with her.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese Its a little rough and the girl is yelling out in ecstasy as Devin diligently pumps away over the much smaller girl. Once hes done he rolls over next to her on the bed. DEVIN Damn girl, you really were grateful for that autograph. The girl moves to her side, facing him, and rubs his chest. FEMALE STUDENT ASKING FOR AUTOGRAPH That was so awesome. I cant believe I made love to Devin Marshall. My friends will never believe it. DEVIN Girl, we didnt make love, we fucked. She playfully slaps him. FEMALE STUDENT ASKING FOR AUTOGRAPH Youre so crude. DEVIN Whatever, I just dont want you falling for me or anything like that. The girl looks at her clock. FEMALE STUDENT ASKING FOR AUTOGRAPH Oh shoot, Im going to be late for my next class. DEVIN Im going to take a nap here if you dont mind. FEMALE STUDENT ASKING FOR AUTOGRAPH Dont you have class too? DEVIN Yeah, but Im Devin Marshall, I dont need to go to class. Im a superstar. The girl stands up and puts her clothes back on.

81

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese FEMALE STUDENT ASKING FOR AUTOGRAPH (laughs) Youre silly. Can I get your number? DEVIN No. FEMALE STUDENT ASKING FOR AUTOGRAPH (surprised) OK, I get it. You dont want there to be too many people out there with your phone number. I understand. (pauses) Well, would you like mine? Devin covers himself up in the sheets then turns on his side in the bed so that hes facing the wall, away from the girl. DEVIN No, thats OK. The girl stands there awkwardly for a few moments trying to figure out what she should say next. FEMALE STUDENT ASKING FOR AUTOGRAPH You know, you never asked me my name. She stands there waiting for him to take any sort of interest and ask her name, but he just lays there not saying anything. After a few moments of silence, Devin finally says something. DEVIN Hey, can you close the blinds before you leave? I get a better sleep when its dark. The girl walks over, in a huff, and closes the blinds then storms out of the room, slamming the door behind her. Devin lays there, his eyelids getting heavy, until he finally falls asleep.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese EXT. JEROMES HOUSE IN LIBERTY CITY NIGHT Devin and his three buddies from the neighborhood Jerome, Raymond and LaRon are sitting around relaxing on the dilapidated front porch of Jeromes mothers house. The darkness is interrupted only by the occasionally lighting of a blunt. The guys are sitting around a radio listening to a sports radio thats airing the highlights of Devins football game earlier in the day. RADIO SPORTS REPORTER (O.S.) And in college football news, the University of Southern Florida Manatees, led by the dynamic, All-world star, Devin Marshall, completed their quest to go undefeated during the regular season with a thrashing of rival Tampa State University, 48-0. Marshall was simply sensational with 285 all-purpose yards, four touchdowns and an intercaption on defense. Next up for the Manatees is a showdown with Tallahassee State University in the conference championship game next week. More college football news after the break. Raymond reaches over and turns off the radio. RAYMOND Devo, you sure did light it up this afternoon. LaRON Speaking of lighting it up, pass that shit over here. Raymond passes the blunt over to LaRon. DEVIN Yeah I did alright, I did alright. Alright? again. JEROME You were killing it out there

83

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese RAYMOND They should just call you Sportscenter because you dominate those motherfuckin highlights every week. DEVIN Im on a mission from God, to show everyone my god-given ability and talent. LaRon takes a long puff then attempts to give it to Jerome, bypassing Devin in the process. LaRON This is some good weed. Check it Jerome.

84

Devin grabs LaRons arm and stops him from passing it along. DEVIN Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up nigga. What man? LaRON Whats your deal?

DEVIN Pass that shit over here. LaRON What? The blunt? DEVIN Yeah, what the fuck you think Im talking about? LaRON Nigga since when are you about the weed smoking? JEROME Yeah, arent you afraid of ruining your draft status and shit like that? DEVIN Fuck that. RAYMOND Nah, nah, nah, youve always turned down the chronic. Why the change?

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN I dont have to worry about draft status or anything like that. Im Devin Marshall. JEROME Nigga, you just the motherfucker that lives two doors down from me in the ghetto. DEVIN That might be truearound herebut out there, Im somebody. JEROME So what? DEVIN Im a somebody thats going to be protected by everybody. Im cash money to a lot of people out there. Theres a lot of guys out there that have my back. They wont let me get in trouble, even if I try to find it. LaRON So what, you dont have to worry about drug tests or shit like that? Devin grabs the blunt from LaRon and takes a big hit from it. DEVIN Does it look like I have to worry about a drug test? Fuck no. If I happen to fail one, I got guys to take care of it for me. RAYMOND You got guys that arent us? DEVIN Yeah, good ole white boys that are looking out for me. White boys, huh. Nah I havent. RAYMOND Man, youve changed. DEVIN

85

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese RAYMOND Well for one you got white boys around you now. DEVIN I need to so they can handle my business. JEROME Just remember to keep it real. Devin slaps Jeromes hand. DEVIN You know I will. Then he takes another hit from the blunt. JEROME Nigga, its puff puff pass, not puff puff puff puff pass. Save some for the rest of us. DEVIN Fuck you, Ive had to sit around for the last six years watching yall have all the fun. Now its time for me to get mine. JEROME Alright, Ill let you have itonly because you going to be our sugar daddy in a few months. DEVIN Get out of here fool. As Devin finishes his puff, an old-school CHEVY IMPALA with the top down drives slowly down the street. The four friends are too wrapped up in their own conversation that they dont notice the car. As the Impala approaches Jeromes house it slows to a crawl. Then suddenly the four young gangbangers riding in the car each take out a SEMI-AUTOMATIC GUN and spray his house. JEROME Ohhh shit!

86

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese The four friends immediately jump off the porch and scatter while the gangbangers in the car laugh at their relentless pummeling of the house. Devin and Jerome run in one direction behind the house while LaRon and Raymond run in the other direction behind the house. EXT. DEVINS NEIGHBORHOOD IN LIBERTY CITY NIGHT Devin and Jerome run across yards to get away as fast as they can running through bushes, jumping over fences and avoiding loud barking dogs. Naturally, Devin is far ahead of Jerome due to his athletic ability. Jerome stumbles and falls a couple of times as he struggles to keep up. Finally after getting a few blocks away, Devin stops in the middle of a dark street and waits for Jerome to catch up. Jerome, completely out of breath, finally catches up to Devin. He bends over to catch his breath and puts his hands on his knees. DEVIN What the hell was that? JEROME I dont know. DEVIN What do you mean you dont know? They shot up your house. And almost shot me in the process. JEROME They mustve been dealers from around the block. DEVIN Dealers? I thought you were done with that shit. JEROME Niggas gotta earn. You know what Im saying?

87

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN No I dont know what youre saying. JEROME Shit, you aint getting paid for another six months. I gotta live before then. I cant be waitin around for you. DEVIN Motherfucker, I aint gonna get paid period if you end up getting me shot! Think dickhead and dont be so stupid. JEROME Im just tryin to make small deals. An ounce there, a gram there, its no big deal. DEVIN You dont think so? Apparently some motherfuckers in the hood think it is a big fucking deal. JEROME Sorry man, sorry. I dont know what else I can say. DEVIN Ahh, whatever. Dude, you know Im going to take care of you when I hit it big, right? JEROME Yeah, I know. DEVIN Do you really know? Because you aint acting like you do. JEROME Bro, you know I love you dog. I know youre with me. And Im with you. OK, good. trust you. DEVIN I just want to make sure I can

JEROME Hell yeah you can trust me.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN If this shits gonna go on around me, get a gun at least so you can be prepared next time. JEROME I already have one. It was in my bedroom though. DEVIN Well, make sure you have it on you whenever Im around from now on. You can call yourself the head of my personal security. And as the head of my personal security, I expect you to be strapped. JEROME I can dig that. DEVIN Lets go to my place and smoke more weed. INT. WPLG TV STUDIO The MALE SPORTS REPORTER is airing highlights of the conference championship game from the stations studio set. WPLG SPORTS REPORTER Hard to believe that this afternoons game was for the conference championship because Tallahassee was totally outmatched and outclassed. At the risk of sounding like a broken record week in and week out, it was the Devin Marshall show today. The man is truly a human highlight reel. Lets go to the tape. INT. Tallahassee is threatening to score, on the Manatees 25 yard line, until their pass is intercepted in the endzone by Devin Marshall. On the first play of the Manatees next possession, Devin lines up in the backfield and takes the handoff 80 yards, untouched, into the endzone for a 21-0 lead. Wed show more highlights, but we know you all get it, a few more impressive receptions, a couple great runs and some pass break ups by Devin Marshall makes the final score 45-3 Manatees. And to add insult to injury, once the clock runs down to zero, Devin makes it a point to run over to the Tallahassee band section and give them a mock cheer. The highlights show that after Devin finishes mocking the opposing teams band, he runs over to a tunnel to leave instead of celebrating with his team midfield. Theres a group of youngsters waiting in the stands by the tunnel to get player autographs. Although they yell out to try to get his attention, Devin just walks by and completely ignores them as he enters the tunnel, not even giving them a wave. This is in total contrast to how he was at the beginning of the season. WPLG SPORTS REPORTER (V.O.) That Devin Marshall knows how to win and knows how to rub it in. We go to Kent Rockwell who had a chance to interview Devin after the game. I just think that if I was on special teams I mightve been able to block the field goal and preserve the shutout. But whatever, we won the game and I guess thats what all matters in the short term. KENT ROCKWELL How would you rate your performance? DEVIN Again I was the best player on the field, but I think theres always room for improvement. I truly believe that I should be able to score a touchdown every time I get my hands on the ball, whether its a rush or a reception. And on defense, I think I should be able to pick off the ball every time its thrown at me. I havent had a game where Ive done that yet, so to me I can improve. Because Supermans supposed to be perfect. KENT ROCKWELL Well its that kind of passion and pursuit of perfection that has made the Manatees perfect so far this season and only one more game stands in their way of an undefeated season and national championship. Good luck to you Devin in your final game of your collegiate career. Thanks man. DEVIN 305 represent!

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese INT. MANSION CLUB, SOUTH BEACH VIP SECTION Devin is celebrating his birthday in style with a mix of his teammates Lil Duke, Nate and Lawrence - and hometown friends LaRon, Raymond and Jerome, along with Daniel Shapiro and Joshua Rosenblatt in the VIP section. Joshua is making sure that theres a steady succession of liquor bottles, along with slutty club girls, making their way to the table. Soon a birthday cake lit up by sparklers with icing that reads Happy 21st Birthday All-Star is delivered to the table by two scantily-clad female waitresses. The crowd of friends quickly gather around the table and jovially sing Happy Birthday to Devin. DEVIN Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Champ, happy birthday to you. DANIEL SHAPIRO Blow out the candles bad boy! Devin blows out the candles to the applause of the crowd and is immediately kissed by one of the waitresses followed by the other one. Devin walks over Daniel. DANIEL SHAPIRO How you liking your birthday party? DEVIN Ohh man, its great. Thanks for pulling this together. DANIEL SHAPIRO No, no, thank you man for having a kick ass season. Were almost there. DEVIN True that, aint no thing, we got this bitch in the bag.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese Joshua Rosenblatt walks over and joins the two of them. JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Listen, I got to take off. DEVIN What? No! JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Yeah, I got to. I have a meeting first thing in the morning up at Tampa. But dont worry, the club has my credit card number. The tab will remain open, so have fun with your buddies. Get whatever you guys need. DEVIN Are you sure? JOSHUA ROSENBLATT Yeah, yeah, definitely. Dont even give it another thought. Have fun. DEVIN Alright. Devin gives Joshua a homeboy hug before he takes off. DANIEL SHAPIRO And dont forget, I have my tab open too so we can get buck wild tonight. Buck wild! DEVIN Lets rejoin the party. Devin joins his buddies back at the table, followed closely by Daniel. Once there, Jerome immediately grabs a bottle of Cristal. JEROME Hey, hey, listen up. Everybody, grab a bottle. The table is covered with so many bottles that everyone there is able to pick one up for themselves.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese JEROME (contd) To our best buddy Devin.

A toast.

LaRON Yeah, congratulations for finally being legally allowed to come to a club that youve been going to for the last five years. The group of friends laughs. JEROME Come on, come on, lets be serious. Thats true, but lets be serious. To our best bad boy friend Devin, congrats for winning the conference championship by beating those bitches from Tallahassee. LaRON You know they used to be just a school for women, right? JEROME I actually didnt know that, but dont interrupt my toast bitch. (pauses) So heres to continued success as we root him on to bring home the Heisman and a national championship over the next six weeks. Happy birthday motherfucker. CROWD Here, here. Everyone takes a swig from their respective bottle. As Devin gulps down, he notices from the corner of his eye a few familiar faces sitting at another VIP table within the section. He puts down his bottle so he can take a closer look at them. He cant quite make out who they are. DEVIN Yo Jerome JEROME Whats up player?

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN Take a look over there. You recognize those fuckers? They look familiar. Jeromes happy demeanor quickly turns when he looks over to the other table and immediately recognizes them as the gangbangers that shot up his house. JEROME Ohh fuck. DEVIN Whats up? JEROME Those are the drug dealing fucks that shot up my house. The four tough-looking guys at the other table are chilling out listening to the music and minding their own business. Suddenly, one of them looks over to Devins party and notices Jerome. The guy hits his buddy on the shoulder and draws his attention to him. JEROME Oh shit. Instinctively, Jerome picks up a full bottle from the table and launches it over at the table of gangbangers. In return, one of the gangbangers grabs a bottle and throws it into the middle of Devins table. The bottle shatters and pieces of glass fly into the crowd. Things quickly erupt into an all-out bottle fight, with each side furiously throwing bottles at one another. Some bottles hit people, some hit the floor and shatter. Lawrence gets hit with a bottle squarely on the head, causing a gash on his chin. The crowd within the club begins to scatter to get away from the flying glass. Suddenly, Jerome takes a gun out from his waistband and fires a few shots in the direction of the gangbangers table. This causes everyone in the club to flee immediately.

Theyre anxiously awaiting for the announcement of the next Heisman Trophy winner. CHRIS FOWLER is standing at a podium in front of the crowd opening an envelope. CHRIS FOWLER And this years Heisman trophy winner is Devin Marshall from University of Southern Florida. Devin stands up, along with his fellow finalists, and gives each of them a hug. Then he walks up onstage and gives Chris a big handshake as he hands him the Heisman trophy. Devin looks down at the trophy in awe then looks out at the crowd, a group of well-dressed, middle-aged men standing and applauding him. Devin takes a few moments to soak it in silently. DEVIN Thank you. And with that simple acknowledgement, Devin walks off of the stage and over to an adjacent set where Kirk Herbstreit is waiting to interview him. Once Devin approaches, Kirk stands up and greets him with a handshake then they both sit down and get settled. KIRK HERBSTREIT Well Devin, that was quite a to the point speech, mustve been the shortest one in the history of the Heisman trophy presentation.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN Well I just didnt think I had anything to add on to my acceptance speech from last year. I was awesome then and Im awesome now. I was the truth then and Im still the answer now. KIRK HERBSTREIT Lets talk about your suit for a moment. DEVIN (deadpans) What about my suit? KIRK HERBSTREIT Its hot pink. DEVIN (laughs) Oh yeah, these threads. Ha. This is me this is what Im all about. This is swagger. This is south Florida. I remember I was on a local radio station a few years ago down in Miami when I was a freshman and I told them that I was going to accept the Heisman Trophy one day wearing a hot pink suit. I wore a traditional, boring suit last year because I was the nervous new guy. But this year I had the confidence to do it. KIRK HERBSTREIT And you did. Who wouldve thought that this would all happen like you predicted back as a freshman? Devin stares at Kirk in disbelief that he would actually ask him that question. DEVIN I did.

DESMOND HOWARD Thanks for sitting down with me. DEVIN Aint no thing.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DESMOND HOWARD So lets just jump into the interview. DEVIN Sure thing. DESMOND HOWARD So these past four weeks for you inbetween the conference championship game and the national championship game, which is coming up early next week and being played right down here in your backyard of Miami, has been just as much about the Devin Marshall publicity tour as it has been about preparing for the University of Nebraska. The photo shoots, one of which I just sat in on, the magazine covers, the guest hosting stint on Sportscenter, the seemingly endless interviews. The interview is intercut with scenes of him guest hosting Sportscenter, conducting interviews with various sports programs and entertainment programs like Access Hollywood, and magazine covers like ESPN the Magazine, Sports Illustrated, even US Weekly. DESMOND HOWARD (contd) I even hear that youve been in the recording studios lately with some wellrespected Miami artists working on an album. Whats up with all this exposure? Especially since a lot of what youre doing isnt directly related to football. Dont forget, you have the biggest game of your life coming up in only a few days. DEVIN Well Ive been taking some time to work on myself during the extended break between games, where were not practicing every day non-stop. Its all about me becoming a global brand. Thats whats going to enable me to feed my family. An NFL paycheck is nice and all, but the real money is extending yourself beyond football, whether its endorsements, music, acting, modeling. The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN (contd) I feel like I have the talent to do it all. DESMOND HOWARD So youre not concerned about the University of Nebraska? DEVIN I am a professional, Ive studied their tapes and I know what to expect. DESMOND HOWARD So are you concerned about the University of Nebraska? DEVIN I think the thing Im most concerned about with the national championship game is not the game itself. I know well win it, Im not too worried about that, its which after parties will I be going to, who am I going to bring to each, and how do I keep my girlfriends away from each other so they dont end up in a catfight. The after parties are my time, I dont need a girl fight taking away attention from me. DESMOND HOWARD Interesting. It doesnt sound like you respect University of Nebraska that much? DEVIN Oh I respect them. I just know though that theyre not the University of Southern Florida and they dont have anyone on their team that has nearly the talent of Devin Marshall. DESMOND HOWARD So youre fully confident that the after parties youll be attending after the national championship game will be victory parties? DEVIN Oh yes, no doubt.

110

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DESMOND HOWARD Care to make a prediction on the game? DEVIN (laughs) Ha, Ill leave that to the pundits like you. Im just here to go play a game in a few days. DESMOND HOWARD (prodding) So no prediction? DEVIN (laughs again) Ill just say thisIts going to be painful for Nebraska, their fans, their students, their alumni, and most of all their players. DESMOND HOWARD Well there you have it, straight from the mouth of Southern Floridas undisputed leader, Devin Marshall predicts pain for the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the national championship game. Good luck to you Devin. DEVIN Thanks, but when you have this much talent, you dont need luck. I just need to go out there and execute. EXT. 112

DEVIN Im ready to kick some ass. The fans continue harassing Devin from the stands. NEBRASKA FANS Devin Marshall is a bitch! Youre in for a lot of pain tonight boy! Finally Devin turns to the crowd and acknowledges them by raising up his arms and waving his hands, asking them to give him more. DEVIN Is that all you got dumbasses!?! Bring it on. Im going to enjoy kicking your teams ass tonight. Its a long ride back to buttfuck, Nebraska in your pickup trucks. Hicks. Coach Alpert walks over to Devin with a purpose. COACH ALPERT Devin! DEVIN Whats up Alpert? COACH ALPERT Look, I know weve had our issues with each other this season, but we both have a common goalto win this fucking championship. DEVIN You know it coach.

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese COACH ALPERT So get in there and take the opening kickoff. DEVIN For real? COACH ALPERT For real. Get in there and give us an early lead. DEVIN With pleasure. As the coach walks away, Devin turns back to the unruly fans in the crowd. DEVIN You hear that cousin fuckers? Time for me to go to work. But dont worry, Ill be back in two minutes. Hell, Ill even give one of you the touchdown-scoring ball. Devin runs onto the field and immediately heads over to the back of the end zone where he raises the roof and waves his arms in an effort to get the USF fans fired up. Once he deems that the fans are sufficiently excited and making enough noise, he walks into the endzone to get ready to receive the opening kickoff. Before he takes his position, he looks around and soaks up the atmosphere of a sold-out stadium. DEVIN (to himself) This is it, it all comes down to this. Play like a champion. Nebraska kicks the ball off 10 yards deep into the endzone. Devin catches it, but instead of kneeling down for a touchback, he immediately blazes out of the endzone and runs up the field. Shedding tackles, running reverses around the field, jumping over players, both the other team and his own guys, Devin finally finds daylight at about the fifty yard line and just outruns everyone to the endzone.

113

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese To throw it in his opponents face, he decides to high-step from the 10 yard line and dances in the endzone, which draws a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. Instead of celebrating with his teammates, Devin runs over to the stands, takes his helmet off and high-fives fans from the back of the endzone all the way over to his sideline. He runs back to the area of the sideline where the fans were taunting him before the game. DEVIN I told you I was going to score, I told you I was going to do it. But you didnt want to listen. You dont want to accept my greatness. Devin throws the football that he just scored with into the stands to a rival fan. DEVIN (contd) Well here, have a football. Sell it on eBay, maybe youll be able to buy a new trailer home with the money. Devin walks backwards, not taking his eyes off the rival fans in the stands, with his two middle fingers raised high, and defiantly, in the air. Coach Alpert storms over to Devin, clearly looking pissed. COACH ALPERT Devin, what the fuck is wrong with you? DEVIN What? COACH ALPERT Sure you made a great play, but you also cost us 15 yards on the kickoff with that stupid unsportsmanlike penalty. It doesnt always have to be about you Devin. DEVIN Put me on the coverage team and Ill take care of it.

114

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese COACH ALPERT What? DEVIN You heard me, let me play on the coverage team and Ill make up for it. COACH ALPERT You know, Im crazy enough to do just that. Get the fuck out there and make a tackle. Devin puts his helmet back on. DEVIN Im going to do one better, Im going to recover the fumble I cause. COACH ALPERT You crazy fuck, get out there. Devin runs onto the field and takes his position on the line readying to kick the ball off. On the Nebraska sideline, the HEAD COACH and his SPECIAL TEAMS COACH notices Devin running onto the field. NEBRASKA HEAD COACH Theyre having him cover kickoffs too? This kid really is Superman. USF kicks the ball off to the five yard line where the Nebraska returner catches it and begins to run. Devin rushes down the field, hes too fast to be stopped by anyone and ends up having a clear shot at the returner. He gives him a vicious, de-cleating hit that drives him into the turf. During the hit, the returner fumbles the ball on the 20 yard line and Devin quickly stands up and recovers it. Theres a pile up to get the ball but Devin comes out with it and dances across the field back to the sideline where he meets Coach Alpert. Once he gets close to him, Devin mockingly drops the ball into the coachs hands.

115

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese DEVIN There, now do you care that I got a stupid little penalty? COACH ALPERT Devin, you DEVIN (interrupts) Just stay off my back for the rest of the game and let me do what I do. Devin takes off his helmet, walks over to a nearby bench, jumps on it and starts waving a towel to get the crowd riled up and on their feet. DEVIN Get up! Get up motherfuckers! We da best! Who? We niggas! We da best! Devin starts dancing on the bench and is quickly joined by several other players. Coach Alpert again storms over to Devin. COACH ALPERT Devin! In case you forgot, you play offense too! Get your ass on the field! Devin quickly grabs his helmet and runs back onto the field and into the huddle. The huddle quickly breaks and Devin lines up a wide receiver on the far side. The QUARTERBACK takes the snap and drops back. Devin runs a fade route into the back of the endzone but the defender has good protection against him. The QB lofts the ball up and Devin uses his superior size to jump up and bring the catch down cleanly for a touchdown. 14-0 with less than a minute gone by in the game. Devin celebrates by jumping up and high-fiving three teammates simultaneously. Then he does an obnoxious, crazy dance across the endzone by himself which draws another penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

116

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese Devin walks over to the referee who threw the flag. DEVIN Keep on throwing the flag. Thats not going to stop me. Nothings going to stop me! Im the best. Devin hands the football mockingly to the referee. DEVIN Here, do something with this, I dont need it no more. Devin runs off the field as the special teams runs on for the extra point. This leads to a montage of highlights for the remainder of the game Devin jumping over defenders on a long run, Devin giving a devastating hit on defense to an unsuspecting receiver in the middle of the field, Devin catching another touchdown pass, Devin intercepting a pass and bringing it back about fifty yards before being pushed out of bounds and Devin making a spectacular 80 yard rushing touchdown by changing directions several times and ducking around and over defenders trying to tackle him. The action is picked up with one minute left by the ABC broadcasting team and the Manatees handily leading 45-0. With the Manatees defense on the field, Coach Alpert decides to take out Devin so he could receive a standing ovation from the fans. COACH ALPERT (yells) Devin, take a bow. Youve played your last play here. Get out of the game! Devin soaks up the adulation by slowly walking off the field with his arms raised high into the air. BRENT MUSBERGER (O.S.) And there you have it folks, the last time youll see Devin Marshall donning a college jersey and playing college football. Perhaps the greatest player ever in the college ranks. What do you think Kirk?

117

The Prospect Original Screenplay by Jason Wiese KIRK HERBSTREIT (O.S.) Well I think hes the greatest without a doubt. The pure athleticism, the talent, the ability for him to play ironman football, both sides of the ball and, as we saw tonight, the ability to not only play, but be a game changer on special teams as well, I mean this is just something that weve never seen before in football. Not in college, not in the pros, probably not even in high school or Pop Warner. Hes simply amazing and the best to ever play the collegiate game. And you have to appreciate the emotion he brings to the game as well. BRENT MUSBERGER (O.S.) Well there you have it folks, youre witnessing history with Devin Marshall trotting off the field for the last time in the NCAA. Devin joins his teammates on the sidelines who all pat him on the helmet, high-five him and even hug him. MANATEES TEAMMATES Good game! Nice showing! Awesome bro, just awesome. You legit! You da best! Devin stands there watching the clock tick down to the end of the game. Nate walks over and gives him a big hug. NATE Youre awesome man. DEVIN Thanks, thanks, I feel good man, I feel great. I just want this time to run out. Once the clock hits zero and the game is over, the Manatees fans in the stands and the players on the sidelines go wild. Nate creates a diversion by continuing to talk to Devin while his two other best friends on the team, Lil Duke and

And Devin takes an early bath courtesy of his fellow teammates. KIRK HERBSTREIT (O.S.) Thats funny. The Gatorade bath is a time honored tradition, typically always reserved for the head coach of the team though. BRENT MUSBERGER (O.S.) Goes to show you just how much Marshall has meant to this team not just this year but last year as well when they got so close to the national championship but lost in the final game. KIRK HERBSTREIT (O.S.) Isnt that right. Lil Duke and Nate then pick Devin up on their shoulders and march him onto the field. BRENT MUSBERGER (O.S.) Ohh boy and now Devin is being carried off the field like a conquering hero. KIRK HERBSTREIT (O.S.) He is a conquering hero. He has easily conquered the world of college football, so he deserves the free ride. The players carry him right off the field as Devin makes a victory sign with him arms. EXT. There were no shortage of villains and victims in this story Rosenblatt will serve 800 years to life and was fined $800 million dollars for swindling hundreds of unsuspecting investors out of their life savings. His testimony to the NCAA, which he had falsely hoped would create leniency with prosecutors in his federal sentencing, described the illegal benefits he gave to student athletes which sank a football program and ushered out a head coach. The University of Southern Florida received severe sanctions with the revoking of their national championship, loss of forty scholarships over three years and a four-year bowl ban. Coach Alpert, generally regarding as a man of high integrity, resigned in the face of the scandal.
