A Resolution Concerning MARRIAGE-COHABITATION WHEREAS: Over fifty percent of marriages end in divorce; and WHEREAS: The leading reason for divorce is domestic habitation disputes; and WHEREAS: Divorce causes the state and individuals tens of thousands of dollars; and WHEREAS: The psychological effects of divorce on small children lead to depression and suicidal tendencies. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Maryland Student Legislature urges the Maryland General Assembly to require one year of cohabitation before a couple may apply for a marriage license.
