Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal Third Follow-Up and Pledge Reminders

A fourth request for a contribution to the 2012 Catholic Ministries Appeal has been mailed to all parishioners who have not made a contribution. The Appeal provides critical funding to diocesan ministries that serve individuals and parishes throughout the Diocese of Joliet. It also provides refunds of 50% of the cash received (not pledged) over the parish goal to each parish. If you receive this mailing, please respond generously. You will be helping both our diocese and our parish. Also, the ninth monthly reminders have been sent to those that made an in-pew pledge to the Appeal. Those that pledged by direct mail have already received payment coupons. Thank you for your gifts, and please make your payment as soon as possible. For your convenience, you can bring your pledge payments to Mass and place them in the basket. The parish will forward them to the diocese.

Stewardship, A Disciples Response

What is stewardship? It is the ability to share ones gifts of life, time, talent, and resources with others with no strings attached and no conditions. And people dare to share these gifts because they realize that they have these gifts that come from a good and gracious God who enriches our lives. Archbishop Thomas Murphy Three convictions underlie Stewardship: 1. Mature disciples make a conscious, firm decision, carried out in action, to be followers of Jesus Christ, no matter the cost to themselves. 2. This commitment is expressed in an entire way of life. 3. Stewardship is an expression of discipleship, with the power to change how we understand and live out our lives. Disciples who practice Stewardship: Recognize God as the origin of life, the giver of freedom, the source of all they have and are and will be. They are deeply aware of the truth that The Lords are the earth and its fullness and those who dwell in it (Psalm 24:1). They are grateful for what they have received and are eager to cultivate their gifts out of love for God and one another. They know themselves to be recipients and caretakers of Gods many gifts. Each day of our lives, as respond to the Gospel message, we give back to God for all that He has given to us. The little things we take for granted is a gift from God. Fr. Peter Jarosz

2012 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES ANNUAL APPEAL PLEDGE REPORT

VOTER INFORMATION
As Catholics we are not single issue voters. A candidates position on a single issue is not sufficient to guarantee a voters support. Yet a candidates position on a single issue that involves an intrinsic evil, such as support for legal abortion or the promotion of racism, may legitimately lead a voter to disqualify a candidate from receiving support. Faithful Citizenship USCCB 2007/2011 Since it is difficult for the average citizen to find accurate information about how the many candidates stand on the life issues, Illinois Citizens for Life has prepared nonpartisan voter information based on responses to a questionnaire, public statements, and/or voting records. Do Dogs Go To Heaven? Mortality, Grief and Eternal Life Wednesday Nov. 7 at 9:00 am
East room of the rectory
The final week addresses the Christian attitude towards aging, death, grief and eternal life. It speaks of the latter as a consequence of salvation wherein people are invited to have an eternal perspective and begin to live Heaven now through their relationship with Christ. Through Jesus overcoming sin and death, humanity through binding itself to Him-may participate in this victory, a consequence of which is eternal life.

New Hymnals for Our Parish

Christ the King Parish will introduce a new hymnal this coming Advent. After researching the many publishers options, we have chosen the new Gather Third Edition hardbound hymnal as our principle liturgical resource. This new hymnal will include much of the loved music our community is familiar with, but also offers much new music. The hymnal will also include the scripture readings and mass parts for us all in the same book. The Hymnal will include: The Three Year Cycle of Readings and Responsorial Psalms (this replaces the softbound missalette) The People's new responses in the Mass Many New musical settings of the revised Ordinary of the Mass (Lord have mercy, Gloria, Holy, holy, Mystery of Faith....) Hundreds of hymns (This replaces the current softbound hymnal) The Hymnal will have our church name and location imprinted in gold lettering on the front cover. Therefore we will have ONE Hardbound book to use at Mass for years into the future! You are welcome to donate a hymnal by contributing $20. You may honor a person, event, or milestone; or memorialize a loved one or friend. This information will be placed on a label affixed to the inside cover of the hymnal. A label to honor an event or person may read (these are only examples): In Loving Memory of our mother, Mercedes Rios 1946 - 2007 Given by her loving family. You may contribute by: 1. Emailing your information to the Music Office, bill@ctklombard.org and then sending or bringing your contribution 2. Visiting the Rectory Office with your information and contribution 3. Calling the Rectory Office with your information, 630.396.6075 and sending or bringing your contribution 4. Visiting the Hymnal Table after masses during the weekend of 11/4/5 and 11/10-11 or the Fund Raising table after mass on the weekend or during the week The Hymnal is: Beautiful & durable; with a special binding, the strongest available; designed to minimize wear & tear, Comprehensive; with a wide variety of the finest liturgical music from prominent publishers Earth-friendly; saving trees, decreasing CO2 because periodic shipments of softbound publications are eliminated and economical This hymnal will last for years! If you have any questions regarding our new Hymnal, please feel free to talk with me after mass. You can also contact me at the rectory via telephone, 630.396.6075, or email, bill@ctklombard.org.
