Optimum Water Management

Discussion on 10th August 2007

PDF created with pdfFactory Pro trial version www.pdffactory.com

Scope of work
Evaluate all the options to assist with management of overall water make
Clean water separation Non-freedraining areas Minimising the dirty water make Options other than treatment; irrigation and evaporation, supply to others Treatment

PDF created with pdfFactory Pro trial version www.pdffactory.com

Baseline case
Optimus, Bothashoek, Pullenshope, Zevenfontein, Kromdraai
Rehabilitation backlog addressed close to closure (last 5 years) Rehabilitation delayed where future mining is to occur

Kwagga
Rehabilitation is concurrent (currently only a small backlog)

11Ml/day plant only

Surplus of 5 to 6Ml/day (excluding Kwagga)

West bank canal, rehab Optimus West, other clean catchments 15Ml/day plant

Deficit developing, but Kwagga still an issue

Ditto above, but increase rehabilitation to allow surplus from Kwagga to be managed at Optimum 15Ml/day plant

Time frame a problem? plus rehab costs?

Kromdraai

Water levels look to be close to decant, but no detailed levels or decant levels as yet Still to model this pit

Kwagga South
Issues
Secondary water collection downstream of main highwall cut-off Provide dirty water containment at loading area Main issue is where to store the water See notes later
