The Khawaarij: What has come in the Revelation regarding the
Khawaarij: their Errors in Creed, their Destructive Methodology; the Alarming
similarities the Khawaarij share with the Hypocrites; the Names of the Groups
the Khawaarij today hide under; the Names of Deviants who today call to the
ideology of the Khawaarij; their Malicious Plots, their insincere Objectives;
their oppression upon the Ummah; their harm to the perception of the
Religion!

Introduction: Some Fundamentals of the Religion
that Every Muslim Must Know and act upon

Allaah's Messenger (sallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said: There are three things towards
which the heart of a Muslim never shows hatred or rancor: Making one's
action sincerely for Allaah; giving obedience to the rulers (wulaatul-umoor);
and sticking to the Jama'ah (united body). [Ahmad (4/80) and Tirmidhi (no.
2567); it's a Mutawaatir hadeeth]

Allaah, The Most High, said:

`
.

And I (Allaah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship
Me (Alone). (Adh-Dhariyat, ayah 56)

Allaah, Subhanahu wa Ta'aala, did not create us for any reason except to single Him out
with all worship, such as du'aa, seeking refuge, reliance, seeking
deliverance, slaughtering, sujood, ruku', salat, seeking of blessings, reverance, etc...

This is the only reason why Allaah allows us to breathe, so keep this in mind oh slaves
of Allaah.

And Allaah, Ta'aala, sent to each nation a Messenger to convey and begin with this
tremendous fundamental of singling Him out with all worship. Allaah, Ta'aala, said:

..

`
= .

.'

..

`
'
`

And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a
Messenger (proclaiming): "Worship Allaah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away
from) Taaghoot (all false deities). (An-Nahl, ayah 36)

Allaah said:

`
.

We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad, salallaahu 'alayhi
wa sallam), except that We revealed to Him that none has the right to be
worshipped except I (Allaah), so make all of your worship purely for Me
(Allaah). (al-Anbiyaa, ayah 25)

And from His Perfect Wisdom, Allaah - Al-Hakeem - did not leave this important
matter of worship up to the intellects and opinions and emotion of men; rather Allaah
also legislated and commanded the manner in which He should be worshipped,
rejecting any unlegislated manner.

Allaah said:

..

'

-
`

Then We have put you (O Muhammad) on a plain way of (Our)
commandment [like the one which We commanded Our Messengers before
you (i.e. legal ways and laws of the Islaamic Tawheed)]. So follow you that
(Tawheed and its laws), and follow not the desires of those who know not.
(Al-Jathiyah, ayah 18)

And Allaah commanded us to take the Messenger sent to this nation as an example in
how to worship Allaah, how to believe, what methodology to traverse, what character
to have, and how to interact with others.

Allaah said:

`
.

Indeed in the Messenger of Allaah (Muhammad) you have an
excellent example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allaah
and the Last Day and remembers Allaah much. (Al-Ahzab, ayah 21)

The Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: Whosoever does an action
not in accordance with our matter (Sunnah), then it will be rejected. [Muslim]

Allaah said:

Say (Oh Muhammad to mankind): "If you (really) love Allaah then follow me
(i.e. accept Tawheed, follow the Qur`an and the Sunnah), Allaah will love you
and forgive you of your sins. And Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." Say
(Oh Muhammad): "Obey Allaah and the Messenger (Muhammad)." But if
they turn away, then Allaah does not like the disbelievers. (Aali 'Imran, ayat
31-32)

Shaikh Ahmad an-Najmee (rahimahullaah Ta'aala) said:

"And Allaah says: And verily! This - your religion (of Islaamic Monotheism) - is
one religion, and I am your Lord, so keep your duty to Me. But they (men)
have broken their religion among them into sects, each group rejoicing in its
belief. (Al-Mu`minun, ayat 52-53)

Allaah has informed us in the first of these two ayat that the unification of the
Ummah is from the righteous deeds, which the Messengers commanded with, as in
the previous ayah that Allaah said:

.,

..

s
`

. .

`
,
`
=

'

,
'
'

O (you) Messengers! Eat of the Taiyibaat (good foods), and do righteous
deeds. Verily! I am Well-Acquainted with what you do. (Al-Mu`minun, ayah
51)

The benefits from these three ayat are:

First: Tawheed Al-Ilahi (singling out Allaah alone for worship)

Second: The Unity of the Ummah

As for Tawheed Al-Ilahi (singling out Allaah alone for worship), then its reality is to
direct all acts of worship towards The One, The Creator of this existence, The
Administrator of it.

As for the unity of the Ummah, then its reality is to worship Allaah with what the
Messengers have prescribed in creed ('aqeedah) and acts of obedience, and that the
whole of the Ummah be upon this. Its Lord is One and its Religion and 'Aqeedah is
one, and its Prophet is one, and he is the one they follow in his legislation. And its
goal is one, and that is to make the word of Allaah uppermost in their own lives and
the lives of others, and its aim is one - to achieve the pleasure of Allaah and Paradise,
and to be safe from His Anger and the hellfire."
1

And to Prophet Muhammad, Allaah sent down the seal and best of the revelations -
the Qur`an - Allaah's infallible un-created Speech as a guidance for those who fear
Allaah and fear standing before Him on the Day of Judgment, about which there is no
doubt:

Blessed be He Who sent down the criterion (of right and wrong, i.e. this
Qur`an) to His slave (Muhammad) that he may be a warner to the 'Alameen
(mankind and jinns). (Al-Furqan, ayah 1)

And from His Perfect Mercy and Wisdom, Allaah also revealed the Sunnah to
explain the Qur`an - again not leaving this tremendous affair to the intellect or
opinions or emotions of men!

Allaah said about His Messenger (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam):

with the Sunnah as he used to descend upon him with the Qur`an.

Allaah said:

Move not your tongue concerning (the Qur`an, Oh Muhammad) to make
haste therewith. It is for Us to collect it and to give you (O Muhammad) the
ability to recite it (the Qur`an). And when We have recited it to you [O
Muhammad through Jibreel], then follow you its (the Qur`an's) recital. Then it
is for Us (Allaah) to make it clear to you. (Al-Qiyamah, ayat 16-19)

Ibn 'Abbaas (radiallaahu 'anhumma) said: "The Messenger of Allaah - salallaahu 'alayhi wa
sallam - used to undergo hardship from the revelation, and he would often move his
lips. I am now moving them for you the way the Messenger of Allaah - salallaahu
'alayhi wa sallam - used to move them.

Then Allaah sent down the following: Move not your tongue concerning (the
Qur`an, O Muhammad) to make haste therewith. It is for Us to collect it and to
give you (O Muhammad) the ability to recite it (the Qur`an)."

Ibn 'Abbaas then explained that the meaning of: It is for Us to collect it and to give
you (O Muhammad) the ability to recite it (the Qur`an) is ------> Collecting it
for you in your chest and your recitation of it.

The meaning of And when We have recited it to you [O Muhammad through
Jibreel], then follow you its (the Qur`an's) recital is ------> [When We command
Jibreel to recite to you My Speech] Listen to it and remain silent

The meaning of Then it is for Us (Allaah) to make it clear to you is ------> It is for
us to explain it through your tongue.

Our noble brother Abul-'Abbaas Moosa Richardson (hafidhahullaah Ta''aala) relayed from the Tafseer of
Imam Ibn Katheer (rahimahullaah Ta'aala) that scholars have said regarding the Statement of Allaah: And
when We recite it, follow its recitation: that the meaning is -----> When We order Jibreel to recite it to
you, then repeat it after him carefully and precisely, without haste.

3
The above statements of Ibn 'Abbaas were gathered from various narrations on this topic found in
Bukhaaree and Muslim, as some of the ahadeeth concerning this had details that others didn't.

And Allaah surrounded His Messenger Muhammad with trustworthy and honorable
companions to learn the religion directly from the unlettered Prophet - who did not
speak from his own desires - and to support him and aid Allaah's Religion.

In obeying Allaah's command, the Messenger (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) conveyed the
explanation and understanding of each ayah to the sahaabah. And Allaah - the All-
Knowing - affirmed the Sahaabah's memorization, and correct understanding and
application of each ayah, and praised them, gave them glad tidings of Paradise (some
of them by name), commanded every subsequent generation to follow them, and
promised Paradise to those who follow them exactly in Eeman. And additionally,
Allaah promised He would not allow the sahaabah to unite upon misguidance, thus
removing any doubt of their correct understanding.

And no one from this Ummah understood the Qur`an better than the companions,
who learned the Qur`an and its correct understanding directly from the Messenger of
Allaah (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam). The companions (radiallaahu 'anhum) were the best in
this Ummah in understanding, as well as Eeman, taqwa, knowledge, Ikhlaas, worship,
and character.

Among the Prophet's ahadeeth in this regard are: The best generation is my
generation, then those who come after them, then those who come after them.
(Bukharee, Muslim)

Were one of you to spend in charity the like of Mount Uhud in gold, it would
equal a handful or even half a handful of one of them (i.e. the Companions).
(Bukharee)

Allaah says (what means): And the first to embrace Islam of the Muhaajiroon and
the Ansaar and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allaah is well-
pleased with them as they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for
them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever.
That is the supreme success. (At-Tawbah, ayah 100)

Shaikh Falaah Isma'eel (hafidhahullaah Ta'aala) explained that in this noble ayah, Allaah
mentions the three categories of people from this Ummah who will be saved.

"Firstly, the Muhaajiroon (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah), and

the shaikh then said we missed this. That's the favor of Allaah that He gives to
whom He wills. This is a level that we (living today) cannot attain.

Secondly, the Ansaar (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the
Muhaajiroon), and the shaikh then said we missed this also. That's the favor of
Allaah that He gives to whom He wills. This is a level that we (living today) cannot
attain.

[The shaikh called our attention to the fact that these first two groups - the
Muhaajiroon and the Ansaar - are the sahaabah of the Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu
'alaihi wa sallam).]

The mercy of Allaah came with a third group whom will attain Allaah's Pleasure, and
be pleased with Allaah. Lastly, Itiba' bi Ihsaan (those who followed them [the
sahaabah] exactly in faith). The shaikh explained that this means: those who
followed the sahaabah with precision, with Ihsaan in 'aqeedah (which includes
Manhaj), 'ibaadat (worship), and Akhlaq, Sulooq (character)."

The companions learned directly from Allaah's Messenger (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam)
and understood and implemented and conveyed the message. Allaah's Messenger said:
Upon you is my Sunnah, and the Sunnah of the rightly-guided Khalifs after me.
Tamasaku biha wa 'addoo 'alayha bi nawaajidh. Hold onto it. And bite onto it
with the molar teeth. ------> Meaning his Sunnah and the sahaba's Sunnah is one
and the same.

Again, his (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) Sunnah and the sahaba's Sunnah is one and the
same.

So if you want to know what an ayah means or what a hadeeth means or how to
implement that ayah or that hadeeth, look to how the sahaba understood the text and
implemented that text. It's not possible that someone today has a "correct"
understanding of a text that none of the sahabah knew.

Shaikh 'Ubaid al-Jaabiree (hafidhahullaah Ta'aala) said: "It was known, oh Muslims, that
the companions of the Messenger (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) were the most
knowledgeable people of the Sunnah (the beliefs, sayings, actions, tacit approvals) of

the Messenger since they were (and still are) the most knowledgeable of the guidance
of the Messenger. They, alone, had witnessed the revelation (conveyed) from the
Messenger's tongue, and they took the religion from his mouth, and they passed it on
to the rest of the people without adding to it or taking anything away." ...Why were
they rightly-guided? Shaikh 'Ubaid al-Jaabiree said:

1- They are the best of this Ummah without dispute.
2- They are the best of the early Muslims.
3- Their striving in Allaah's Cause and their virtues over others.
(4-) They did not have their own way that was separate from the Messenger's way.
(5-) They were united upon either a clear text (proof from the Qur`an and Sunnah) or
understanding of that text."
4

And, in an authentic hadeeth, the Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam)
said: Allaah will not allow my Ummah to unite upon misguidance. (Declared

ayah 115)

Shaykh Muhammad Nasir-ud-Deen Al-Albanee (rahimahullaah) pointed out that Allaah
says (what means) and follows other than the believers' way. Al-Albanee
elaborated: "Our Lord did not stop short in this ayah. And if He would have, the ayah

Messenger after the right path has been shown clearly to him, We shall keep him in
the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell - what an evil destination." Instead, due
to His infinite Wisdom, He included: And He follows a way other than the way of
the believers. And this is what we are focusing on. I hope that this ayah becomes
firmly grounded in your minds and in your hearts, and I hope that you don't forget it,
because it is the truth.

And through it, you will be saved from deviating, drifting away to the right or to the
left, and you will be saved - even in one aspect or some issue - from falling into one of
the sects that are not saved, or one of the deviant sects."

The way of the companions ----> is the way of Allaah's Messenger

Opposing the Messenger -------> is following a way other than the way of
the companions

And Allaah - from His Perfect Wisdom and Mercy - did not take the soul of His
Messenger Muhammad (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) until the Deen was completed and
perfected, with a promise of the preservation.

Allaah, Ta'aala, said:

O you who believe! Obey Allaah and obey the Messenger (Muhammad), and
those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything
amongst yourselves, refer it to Allaah and His Messenger, if you believe in
Allaah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final
determination. (An-Nisa`, ayah 59)

Prophet Muhammad (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: I have left amongst you that
which if you hold onto it, you will never go astray: the Book of Allaah and my
Sunnah. As the scholars have explained, in this promise is a protection from going
astray for the one who truly holds onto the Qur`an and the Sunnah - upon the correct
understanding of the companions.

The truth is clear and apparent, and distinct from deviation.

This is why the Prophet said: I have left you upon clarity, a clear path. Its night is
like its day. No one deviates from it except that he is destroyed! [Reported by

Ahmad, Ibn Maajah (no. 43) and al-Haakim; declared 'saheeh' by al-Albaanee in as-
Saheehah (no. 937)]

The Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said: "Everyone will enter
Jannah except those who refuse." It was asked, "And who would refuse, O
Messenger of Allaah?" He said, "Whoever obeys me enters Jannah, and whoever
disobeys me, refuses." [al-Bukhaaree (2780)]

Al-Irbaad ibn Saariyah (radialahu 'anhu) reported: One day the Messenger of Allaah
(salallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) admonished us with an intense sermon which caused the
hearts to fear and the eyes to shed tears, so we said: 'Oh Messenger of Allaah, this is
as if it were a farewell sermon, so advise us.' He (salallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said: I
order you to fear Allaah, and to hear and obey, even if you have a slave as a
ruler over you. For verily, he who lives long among you will see many
differences. So I order you to stick to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly-
guided khulafa after me... [Abu Dawood, Ahmad, Ibn Majaah, Ad-Daarimi, and at-
Tirmidhee, who declared the hadeeth 'hasan-saheeh']

After mentioning this hadeeth, Shaikh Rabee' bin Haadee al-Madkhalee (hafidhahullaah
Ta'aala) said: "There is no firmness in their Deen and their Dunya except by
adhering to them [the rulers] and following them, and there is no solution to
their problems except by implementing them exactly. ...So any solution which
is given precedence over and above this methodology is erroneous and its
outcome is failure."

from their Lord. Thus does Allaah set forth their parables for mankind.

Among the statements in Imam Ibn Katheer's tafseer of this ayah is: "They chose

Choosing kufr, bid'ah, opinions, desires, bigoted blind-following over and above the
truth that Allaah revealed is a characteristic of the disbelievers.

So after the truth, what else can there be, save error? How then are you turned
away? (Yunus, ayah 32)

The believers follow the truth from their Lord whereas the hypocrites (those who
outwardly claim Islaam but conceal disbelief) follow falsehood in matters of 'aqeedah
and methodology. Believing as Allaah commands us to believe is a condition for being
guided and entering Paradise.

`
s

.
`

s .

.,

So if they believe in the like of that which you believe, then they are rightly
guided, but if they turn away, then they are only in opposition. So Allaah will
suffice you against them. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (Al-
Baqarah, ayah 137)

Anyone who holds an 'aqeedah (creed, belief) and traverses a methodology that differs
from the 'aqeedah and manhaj of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam)
and the sahaaba, then that person divides, splits up and weakens the Ummah, in
addition to being threatened with the hellfire, in accordance with the Prophet's
statement: The Jews broke up into 71 sects, the Christians broke up into 72
sects, and this Ummah will break up into 73 sects, all in the hellfire except for
one. They said, "Which one is that, o Messenger of Allaah?" He said: Those on that
which I am upon today, and that which my companions are upon. [At-
Tirmidhee, Al-Haakim; authenticated by Al-Albaanee]

So Allaah's Messenger (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) - who did not speak from his own
desire, rather it was revelation revealed to him - said the group that is saved is that
which holds onto his 'aqeedah and manhaj, the one he and his companions were upon
that day. This successful and blessed Firqatun Naajiyyah (The Saved Sect) have the
same 'aqeedah and manhaj as the Prophet, and understand each ayah and each
hadeeth in the manner the Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) explained
each ayah and each hadeeth to his companions. And they single out Allaah in each
and every act of worship, and single out Allaah in His Lordship, and single out Allaah

in His Beautiful Names and Perfect Attributes, while following only Prophet
Muhammad (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam), and none in opposition to him.

As for the other 72 sects, then they are threatened with the hellfire.

Shaikh 'Ubaid al-Jabiree (hafidhahullaah) said: "All these groups with their different
methodologies are astray groups that lead others astray, and they come under
the firaq (sects) that the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) informed us..."
5

There are many examples of the trickery and deceit of the people of misguidance,
whether they are hypocrites or disbelievers, or people of bid'ah whose bid'ah has not
reached the level of kufr. Allaah - The All-knowing, All-Wise - exposed these people
of misguidance and their plots, via revelation to His Messenger (salallaahu 'alayhi wa
sallam), and afterward via the insight He blessed the sahaaba with, and afterward via
the insight He blessed the righteous scholars with.

Among these deviant sects which fight the truth and its people, and seek to cause
corruption in the earth under the guise of "rectification" is the group whom Allaah's
Messenger (salallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) called "Dogs of the hellfire" and "the worst of
all creatures."
