The stage premiere of the novel by William Golding, about the men who conceived and built the spire on Salisbury Cathedral. Dean Jocelin has a vision. A spire, 400 feet high, pointed like an arrow to God, a pinnacle of faith, bursting from the heart of the Cathedral. But no one has built that high before. There are no foundations. There are inadequate funds. And when Master Builder, Roger Mason, begins to work, the fragility of Jocelins vision soon becomes apparent. As the spire slowly rises, dark shadows are cast across the lives of all involved in this epic saga of faith versus reason.

Music composed by Alison Stephens and performed by Norman Chalmers Mike Maran tells the Dicken's classic story a mesmeric storyteller (The Stage) and Norman Chalmers plays the music on concertina, tin whistle and thumb piano. Scrooge is a terrible miser, but he cant be all bad. He could hardly become so beautifully transformed at the end of the story if he never had the potential in the first place. The ghosts are not so frightening, well maybe just a little bit scary. They lead Scrooge down the roads of the past, present and future because he wants to see everything that they can show him. Scrooges nephew, Fred, laughs all the way through the story. If you should happen, by any unlikely chance, to know a man more blessed in a laugh than Scrooges nephew all I can say is that Id like to know him too.
