The following topics are discussed in this chapter: Operating Notes on page 22 Using QSEE6800+H Card-Edge Controls on page 23 Setting QSEE6800+ Remote Control Parameters on page 26 QSEE6800+H Input Parameters on page 29 LEDs on page 33 Alarms on page 34
21
Operating Notes
When setting the control parameters on the QSEE6800+H, observe the following: If you make changes to certain parameters, other related parameters may also be affected. When you change a parameter, the effect is immediate. However, the module requires up to 30 seconds to save the latest change. After 30 seconds, the new settings are saved and will be restored if the module loses power and must be restarted.
Table 3-1 on page 24 describes all of the parameter settings for the QSEE6800+H, including the original factory defaults. To return this module to its factory default settings, you can either reset each parameter individually or do a global recall following this procedure: 1. Rotate the hex switch to the global recall parameter F. 2. Toggle the navigation switch to On. Use an available 6800+ software control option to aid in viewing, setting, and confirming the parameter value.
22
QSEE6800+H card edge controls consist of a Hex switch and Navigation toggle switch. (See Figure 3-1.) In addition, a series of eight status LEDs on the card edge indicate the corresponding parameter options and values.
Note
The sequence of options listed in the Options column mirrors the sequence achieved when you move the Navigation Toggle switch up. All parameters clip unless otherwise indicated.
Follow these steps to change the QSEE6800+H parameter settings: 1. Rotate the hex switch to the parameter number (1 to 9) or letter (A to F) of the option you want to view or set. 2. Toggle the navigation switch to select and set the value of the chosen parameter. Figure 3-2 on page 33 lists all of the card-edge parameters for QSEE6800+H. Legend Bold option = Indicates that this is the default setting for the parameter. [RO] = Indicates that parameters are read-only/feedback, and cannot be used to select controls.

Meaning
There is no power to the module; the module is not operational. There is power to the module; the module is operating properly. There is an alarm condition. The module has detected a hardware/ firmware fault. The module is undergoing configuration.
Alarms
Alarms are usually logged and monitored within available software control applications (for example, + Pilot Lite or Pilot). You can only identify alarms and differentiate between major and minor alarms within a software control application. See the appropriate software control user manual or online help for more information.
Note
SQM requires CCS Pilot or Navigator version 3.2 or later.
Signal Quality Management (SQM) is a system for monitoring video and audio inputs. SQM alarms appear on the QSEE6800+H Input Control windows. All alarms can be enabled or disabled, so you can choose which alarms to monitor. Each alarm is configurable with the following features: A Priority setting determines whether the alarm is major or minor. A Trigger setting determines how long an alarm condition must exist for before it is reported. A Clear setting determines how long the condition must cease to exist for before the alarm is deactivated.
34
A Global Alarm Priority can be set for the QSEE6800+H module, and for each input to the module. (With Pilot or Navigator in Build mode, right click on the module or input and choose Configuration. The Report Alarms with Priority Greater Than: setting is on the Device tab.) If an alarms priority is at or above this setting, that alarm displays when it is triggered. Some alarms also have an associated tolerance parameter, for adjusting the level above or below which an alarm is triggered. Each alarm has an option for acknowledgement, so you can let other users on the network know that the alarm situation has been addressed. When an SQM alarm appears in the QSEE6800+H, the card-edge Module Status LED will turn red. SQM alarm names, thresholds, and other controls appear in Pilot and Navigator software only. SQM alarms are divided into three groups: QSEE6800+H SDI Video Alarms on page 37 QSEE6800+H SDI Embedded Audio Alarms on page 39 QSEE6800+H SDI Data Alarms on page 40
Unless otherwise indicated, the settings in Table 3-8 can be made for each SQM alarm within Pilot or Navigator software. Table 3-7. Alarm Options Alarm Option

Description
Decide how long an alarm condition must exist (in seconds) before the alarm is triggered. If the alarm level is reached for less time than the Trigger duration, the alarm will not trigger. Choose any duration from 0 to 7200 (or 2 hours). If this option is set to 0 and the alarm condition exists for any period of time, the alarm will trigger. Decide how long the alarm condition must abate before the alarm to be turned off. Choose any duration, measured in tenths of a second, from 0 to 7200 (or 2 hours). If this option is set to 0 and the alarm condition ceases for any period of time, the alarm will clear. Chapter 4
CCS Operation
Overview
Note
You must have CCS Pilot or Navigator 3.2 or later to use the full features of the QSEE6800+H module.
When using CCS software, such as Pilot or Navigator, you can view a QSEE6800+H Streaming Control window. This window can contain up to 8 thumbnails, plus an MPEG-4 player if you have the QSEE6800+HS option. You can set and monitor SQM parameters and alarms for each input to the module. In addition, in Navigator you can create a Graphical Navigation window with up to 32 thumbnails and 4 MPEG-4 players (with the QSEE6800+HS option). Thumbnails can provide a visual identification for which input has triggered an alarm. This chapter assumes a basic knowledge of how to use CCS software. See the Pilot or Navigator user guides and online help for detailed information on such functions as discovery, changing modes, and using the Navigation pane. While you can discover QSEE6800+H in CCS CoPilot, you cannot view streaming video or set or monitor SQM parameters and alarms. The following topics are discussed in this chapter: CCS PC System Requirements on page 42 Discovering QSEE6800+H Modules on page 42 Controlling QSEE6800+H Modules in Pilot or Navigator on page 44 Building QSEE6800+ Pages in Navigator on page 47 Launching the QuickTime Player Outside Your CCS Software on page 53
41
See your CCS Pilot or Navigator manual for a complete list of system hardware and software requirements.
To enter a license key to activate MPEG-4 streaming, your CCS Software must be in Control mode. Follow these steps: 1. Select the QSEE6800+ module in the Navigation pane, right click and select Control to open the modules Control window. 2. If it is not already selected, click on the Streaming tab. 3. Type your license key in the Key field. If your license key is valid, the Options field will display High-End Streaming.
42
A QSEE6800+ module can have up to eight inputs. The inputs to the module appear as contained items beneath the QSEE6800+ module.
FR6802+ frame
QSEE6800+H module
Note
QSEE6800+H inputs will not appear when the module is discovered by + Pilot Lite.
After discovery, your CCS software will recognize the different inputs to the QSEE6800+ module. It will retain the module name, signal standard, and module ID. If the input changes, the QSEE6800+ module will recognize this change without rediscovery.
43
The QSEE6800+ Specific Control window displays thumbnails for all the inputs into the module.
Waveform display
Vectorscope display MPEG-4 stream is optional; see your sales representative for more information
Figure 4-2. Control Window Display Tab for QSEE6800+ If an input is not connected, the thumbnail or MPEG-4 stream window will display No Video Source.
44
Toggles Vector Display mode Toggles Waveform Display mode Audio meters
Figure 4-3. QSEE6800+ Thumbnail Buttons Waveform and vectorscope are available on thumbnails only, not on MPEG-4 streaming video. To view a thumbnails input through the vectorscope, click V. The button turns yellow. Click V again to return to thumbnail display. To view a thumbnails input through the waveform monitor, click W. The button turns yellow. Click W again to return to thumbnail display.
To determine the line that is analyzed by the waveform or vectorscope, set the Line Number parameter in the sub-devices Control window. To view a larger waveform or vectorscope, double click on the image. A pop-up window opens. To close the window, click on the X in the top right corner. Multicasting QSEE6800+ modules use multicasting to stream thumbnails and/or MPEG-4 video simultaneously to multiple devices. Using multicasting means that a QSEE6800+ module uses the same amount of bandwidth regardless of the number of clients it transmits data to, rather than using bandwidth proportionally to a modules number of clients, as in point-to-point communication.
45
If you have multiple QSEE6800+ modules, you must ensure that each module has an unique Multicast IP address. This is done using the Multicast IP parameter on the Stream tab of the modules Control window.
MPEG-4 stream is optional; see your sales representative for more information. Without the streaming option, a grey box will appear.
Figure 4-4. QSEE6800+ Control Window Stream Tab Any IP address from 224.0.1.0 to 239.255.255.255 is treated as a valid multicast address input. The Multicast TTL (Time-to-live) parameter determines how many network switches can exist between your device (in this case a QSEE6800+ module) and your client. Normally you should leave this setting at its default. Selecting an MPEG-4 Source With the QSEE6800+HS option, you can monitor audio meters and video for any one of the eight inputs at 30 frames per second, while simultaneously monitoring the eight thumbnail inputs. Select the MPEG-4 input using the MPEG4 Video Source parameter.
46
Figure 4-5. Control Window for an Input to a QSEE6800+ The Thumbnail tab contains control parameters for the thumbnail input and output. See Table 3-3 on page 29 for more information. The Parameters tab contains SQM parameters for the QSEE6800+ input. See Table 3-4 on page 31 for more information. The Alarms tab contains on this page are described in Alarms on page 34.
You can only select one item at a time. To add another item, click Add again. On the Step 1 of 2 screen, you can switch the selected input for a QSEE6800+ module by clicking the Input field. This opens a drop-down menu that lists All plus each of the individual inputs. To add multiple inputs from the same QSEE6800+, select it multiple times in the Device Selection window. Each input to any particular QSEE6800+ module can only be selected once. If, for example, you choose a QSEE6800+ module, and an input to that module, you will receive an error message. You must resolve the problem (by removing one or more inputs from the list) before you can proceed to Step 2 of 2. 5. Click Next>> to proceed to the Step 2 of 2 screen.
48
6. Choose the number of MPEG-4 players you wish to have on the Graphical Navigation page. You must have the QSEE6800+HS option to view video in an MPEG-4 player. If you dont have the QSEE6800+HS option, or do not wish this page to contain an MPEG-4 player, click None. If you do not choose any MPEG-4 players, there will not be any Grid Layout options. Thumbnails will be laid out from left to right, top to bottom on your Graphical Navigation page. You can only have one MPEG-4 player per QSEE6800+H, and you can have a maximum of four in Navigator. If you choose One or Two MPEG-4 players, you can choose from four preset layouts. Select an option to view a preview of it on the Step 2 of 2 screen. 7. To apply a custom background (this is optional -- you can leave it white), click Select to browse for an image. For best results, your background should be the same size as the viewing area that it will be seen on. Otherwise it will be cropped or will leave blank areas. 8. Click Finish. Your page is built. Switch to Control mode to view your page, or stay in Build mode to add or edit controls, change thumbnail sizes, etc.
Note
When you drag a QSEE6800+ input to a page and select MPEG-4 streaming for that input, every time you open that page in Control mode, all MPEG-4 broadcasts from that module will switch to the selected input. It is usually better to drag the module to the page and then select the input on the page itself.
49
To adjust the settings, right click on the Thumbnail or Streaming monitor and select Properties. The Object Properties window opens:

Thumbnails and MPEG-4 video have the same features in a Graphical Navigation page that they have in a Control window. For more information on these features, see Controlling QSEE6800+H Modules in Pilot or Navigator on page 44. By default, wizard-generated thumbnails are low-resolution.
51
You can also drag the corners of a thumbnail or MPEG-4 stream to resize it. If you choose two thumbnails, you have additional options of Same Size, Same Width, and Same Height. These options set the resolution of all selected thumbnails to match the selected proportion of the last-selected thumbnail. When you switch to Build mode, you can click on a thumbnail and drag it to an MPEG-4 streaming box to immediately stream the video from that input. Alarms Monitoring In addition to the diagnostics window, alarms are indicated on the borders for both thumbnails and MPEG-4 streaming video on Graphical Navigation pages.
