One day business roundtable 31 January 2013, The Sebel Surry Hills, Sydney, Australia
Its been more than two decades since the legislation for workplace equality was first introduced in Australia; however the latest statistics show that women in leadership positions are still significantly lower than men and the gender pay gap remains a persistent problem. As a traditionally male-dominated industry, legal firms are still biased towards full-time, primarily male workers, leading to lower levels of female representation in senior partner roles. Recent research has shown that organisations with women on their board achieve greater success through higher profit, return on equity and earnings growth. Thus, retaining and advancing women in leadership roles should be a clear priority for organisations. This one day roundtable provides a unique platform to hear the journeys of women who were able to have success in their careers and family, the firms that have made this work and discuss some topical issues related to gender equality in the workplace.
