Dekaney-30

Klein-20

The Klein Freshman Gold team welcomed Dekaney for their last home game of the 2012 season. The Bearkats elected to receive and were off and running, thanks to the efforts of Corey Brown. A Klein fumble early in the first quarter led to a quick Dekaney touchdown with a successful 2 point conversion attempt. The ensuing kickoff was returned to the Klein 39 yard line. This possession featured a huge run by Corey Brown to Dekaneys 37 yard line and a quarterback keep by Jake McKeever that resulted in a 15 yard penalty against Dekaney for a late hit. With the ball spotted at the 14 yard line, Lane Mize picked up 8 yards on a run with Brown scoring the touchdown. The extra point kick by Nick Harriman was good putting Klein just one point behind at 8-7. The kickoff to Dekaney resulted in a fumble recovery by Nick Harriman, but the Bearkats were not able to cash in and turned the ball over to Dekaney on downs. Nick Sims-Rhodes and Justin Cooper combined on a huge, potential touchdown saving, tackle. Matt Ritchie made another great tackle at the 20 yard line, with Blane Paden also stopping a possible touchdown run. Unfortunately it was not enough to keep Dekaney from scoring another touchdown with a 2 point conversion. To end the half, Klein was able to gain several yards on fakes from Brown to Mize but couldnt make up yardage in time to score. The second half saw Dekaney running the kickoff back for a swift touchdown, but the 2 point attempt was successfully stopped. Jaylen Pettus saw quite a bit of action in the second half with two 1st down runs. Aaron Koterwas also was able to rack up 9 yards on a quick fake. But scoring on this drive was not to be. With Klein already fighting a tough offensive battle, Dekaney was able to put up another quick 7, taking the score to 30 to 7. The Klein offense swiftly responded, thanks to a monster 74 yard run by Brown that resulted in a touchdown. The Bearkat elected to go for 2 and were successful, drawing to within three scores of Dekaney. In the fourth quarter, Kleins defense hung tough, not allowing another score by Dekaney. Trey Acker made a huge sack to get the ball back for Klein. On offense, Landon Darlington ran the ball from Kleins 35 yard line to Dekaneys 30. This Klein possession would end with a 4 yard touchdown run for Jaylon Pettus, and the Kats pulled to within two. Kleins defense came up huge with a mega-hit on Dekaneys quarterback by Blaine Paden and an interception by Mack Malusa. Unfortunately, time ran out before the Bearkats could cash in. Fourth quarter defense really came up big in allowing Klein to pull up closer to Dekaney. Go Bearkats!
