A ministry update from Chrissy Frerichs serving with Cru at Kansas State

October 2012

Praise/Prayer:
Recruiting students for the Denver Christmas Conference began this month. Wed love to take as many students as possible to this conference because its a great opportunity for them to get away with friends to hear from the Lord. Please pray for them as they consider coming with us. For Fight Clubs: praise that many new students surfaced to lead these groups! Pray for them as they begin meeting together this month. Shayla, a sorority girl from Greek Bible study: She understood she is saved by grace through faith this month! Pray for that truth to continue to sink in as we study the Bible together each week. Please pray for energy as we head into the end of the semester and vision as we plan for the spring semester. Personally, for friendships to continue to grow with other young professionals in my church and in Manhattan.

Encouraging Responses from Community Groups

The last week in October we wrapped up Community Groups and the nine week study of The Gospel Centered Life. In living rooms packed full of students every week, we saw students grow in their relationships with God and with one another. We asked the students to comment on their experiences while participating in a community group. Here are a few of their responses: I have really seen God work in myself in others through revealing sin and wounds and healing us deeply through repentance and encouragement from one another. For the first time in my life, I have truly begun to understand that God is for me unconditionally no matter how short I fall of Him. For this to become more than something I have heard in church all of my life - for it to be transformed from an empty phrase into knowledge I carry in my heart - has truly been a blessing without comparison. More than anything, I was blessed with a group of friends that I desperately needed to help me cope with the transition from high school to college. I definitely became a renewed Christian and a stronger Christian during this study. Through Cru, our Community Group, and specifically this study, I feel as if my relationship with God is continuing to expand and I am growing closer to Him. God is truly an awesome God. It was cool to see students hearts, as well as mine, change as we studied the gospel together each week. Well begin Fight Clubs, gender specific discipleship groups, the first week of November. Together, we will continue to grow closer to Jesus while we fight sin, grow in grace, and experience fullness of life in Him.

We Love K-State Events

October was We Love KState for Cru at KSU. We spent four weeks specifically praying for the university, serving in different ways around campus and the city, and engaging in spiritual conversations with other students and organizations. The students set up a Free Hot Chocolate table outside of the Union on a cold day. They gave away hot chocolate and took prayer requests for those that stopped by. Community Groups found ways to serve this month. Students in my group took part in the SWIPE Out Hunger event, partnering with the Ag honor society to package meals for a village in Africa. Another group provided dinner for the Lesbian-Gay-Bi Transgender club during their weekly meeting. The group was surprised by the offer, and thankful that Christians would show them respect and love. We set up a table in the Union each week using pictures surveys on spirituality and worldview (Soularium and Perspectives), as well as TV clips with religious topics, to learn more about spiritual interest among students and faculty. Many of our new students helped out, wanting to learn how to have these kinds of conversations with their families and friends. God is working in our hearts to serve and speak truth in love like He did.
