Caring the Spiritual Health of the Old (Senior Citizens)
Abstract
The peaceful nourishment for the old not only provides the old with a good attendance of
physical needs, but also helps to obtain their spiritual health. The holistic concept of health
seamlessly integrates physical, mental, spiritual, and social aspects of health, reflecting how
health is embedded in the everyday experience of the old. Nowadays, the aging population
unceasingly increases in Taiwan, and thus the peaceful nourishment for the old has arisen. Few
relevant studies aim at the mental or spiritual health in peaceful nourishment for the old. The
purpose of this article is to inquire the content, importance and strategy of the spiritual health
of older adults in order to achieve the holistic health. The author adopts an approach of
literature interview and life experience to analyze the spiritual health. Finally, the author
proposes to develop a scale that will measure the spiritual health of older adults. I will also
apply the method of survey and interview to sample the old and find their performances of
spiritual health in the process of peaceful nourishment. Based on this, I will propose a theory
related spiritual health of peaceful nourishment to resolve the relevant questions.
