Project Proposal

A project proposal is actually a road map showing clearly the location where a journey begins from; the method of getting there and the destination to be reached at. The purpose of the project proposal is to: Present the issue to be researched and its importance. Give an idea to instructor about how you will proceed in project. Suggest the data necessary for solving the problem and how the data will be gathered, treated and interpreted. A proposal is also known as a work plan, prospectus, and outline, statement of intent or draft plan. It tells us: What will be done? Why it will be done? How it will be done? Where it will be done? For whom it will be done? What is the benefit of doing it?

Structure of Project Proposal

The proposal should include the following main sections: Title page Introduction Literature Review Significance Rationale of the study Objectives of the study Hypothesis Research Method/ Methodology The method section consists of the following parts: Participants Instruments Procedure/ Project Proceedings Proposed Data Analysis References Appendix -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Title Page It should include: The topic The name & ID of the student Name of the University University Logo Date of Submission Table of contents List the important headings and sub-headings used in the project with page numbers. 1. Introduction It should include: The problem being studied and why the problem is an important one to study. The theoretical implication of the study and briefly describe the relevant background literature related to the study. The purpose, rationale, and design of the project with a logical development of the hypotheses guiding the research. 1.1 Literature Review A literature review is an appraising description of information found in the literature associated to your chosen area of research. It should give a hypothetical foundation for the research and helps you establish the nature of your research. A literature review should cover these 4 points: The literature review explains how each work is similar to and how it varies from the others. Literature review should be well-structured around and directly linked to the research question you are developing. The literature review should present an overview of the subject, issue or theory under consideration, along with the objectives of the literature review. 1.2 Significance Significance shows why your study is important or useful within the concerns of the discipline or course. 1.3 Rationale of the study Rationale shows what are the reasons of choosing your particular subject of study. 1.4 Objectives of the Project State the objectives/goals of your project, keeping in mind the following points;

 These should state the purpose of the project These must be based on logical facts and figures Project objectives should be presented such that these should facilitate the reader to locate various important points in the research work At the end of study, the objectives must be assessed to see if they have been met 1.5 Hypothesis Hypothesis is a tentative statement for a phenomenon. Often a hypothesis is stated in the form of a prediction or some outcome, along with an explanation for the prediction. 2. Research Method/ Methodology It describes in detail how the study will be conducted. The method section consists of the following parts: Participants/ Sample: Explain how many participants will be included in the study and what will be the sampling techniques used. Instruments/ Research Tools: Explain what research tools will be used to gather the data along with description and details of research tools. Demographic information (gender, age, socio economic status, education, etc.) of participants will also be included in this part. Procedure/ Project Proceedings: it will include how youll select the sample and gather the data 3. Proposed Data Analysis It will include what will be the proposed statistical analysis for the project. 4. References All citations used in the study must be given by arranging them alphabetically by the last name of the author. (APA format should be used) 5. Appendices This section will include data collection forms (instruments). The appendix can also be used to provide a verbatim copy of the instructions to the participant or a list of a specific material used in study. Each appendix will be identified by a letter (A, B, C and so on).
