2.1 JOB DESCRIPTIONS SEA STAFF The Company is concerned that only properly qualified and competent seamen are appointed to our vessels. Accordingly, The Company issues to the Crew Employer a detailed statement of what the Company considers to be the Job Description of all seamen on board. The Crew Employer has agreed to recognise these requirements when appointing seamen to the Company's vessels so all seamen must appraise themselves of their Job Descriptions and how this relates to the Job Descriptions of their colleagues.

2.1.1 CHIEF ENGINEER TITLE CHIEF ENGINEER PURPOSE The effective management of technical and associated resources on board and the maintenance of those resources. REPORTS TO Captain REPORTS FROM First Assistant Engineer; Electrician; Chief Mate LIAISON WITH Ship's Management Team Duties and Responsibilities 1. To develop and control plans for the maintenance of technical installations and equipment throughout the ship. 2. To participate as a member of the Ship's Management Team. 3. To monitor own performance. 4. To direct the deployment of the workforce in close consultation with the Chief Mate and Second Engineer. 5. To appraise the performance and potential of ship's staff in accordance with agreed procedures. 6. To ensure vessel is adequately bunkered and has sufficient FW for voyage. 7. Is in charge of bunkering vessel. Leadership To command the confidence of the ship's company by firm guidance, exemplary personal conduct and by fostering a congenial working and social environment. Special Responsibilities 1. To advise the Master on matters pertaining to seaworthiness of the vessel, with special regard to technical installations and equipment. 2. To provide at all times for the safety of personnel whilst operating and maintaining technical installations and equipment. 3. To take charge personally in emergencies involving machinery. 4. To ensure, in conjunction with the Captain, that the vessel only leaves port when fully provided for. 5. To be fully familiar with condition of the hull and machinery. 6. To maintain any Planned Maintenance System up to date and complete all relevant documentation. 7. To carry out personally (when in possession of the appropriate Certificate) any survey work according to the Classification Society regulations. 8. To ensure optimum efficiency in the use of fuel, lubricating oil and stores. 9. To ensure all local, national and international laws in relation to the prevention of pollution of the environment are complied with. 10. To ensure that all persons engaged on maintenance work are used to the optimum advantage and follow safe working practices. 11. To carry out technical documentation in accordance with Company procedures. 12. To deal with shore contractors in accordance with agreed policy. NOTES Responsibility The Chief Engineer is responsible to the Master and the Company for the efficient and economical working of the Engine Department. His primary responsibility must always be the safe operation of all machinery, safe working practices within his Department and the safety

of the ship. He is responsible for the well-being, training and discipline of all members of his Department. The Chief Engineer is to ensure that the Company's Regulations affecting the Engine Department are carried out. The Chief Engineer is to ensure that all orders, issued to him by the Master, are executed and is to inform him on all important matters connected with the Engine Department. The Chief Engineer will advise the Master on the planning requirements for the Engine Department and machinery maintenance. The Chief Engineer is responsible to the Master for the final decision that the engines are available for UMS (Unattended Machinery Spaces) Operation. Duties The Chief Engineer is to be present in the Engine Room when the ship is entering or leaving port, or when working to orders from the Bridge. The Chief Engineer is responsible for the proper working of, and all repairs to, the main engine, propeller, boilers and auxiliaries, deck machinery, including winches, windlass and ventilation fans, air conditioners, cargo pumping plant, hotel services, and all electrical equipment, except radio and navigational aids. In addition he is to maintain in good working order, all lifeboat motors, galley and pantry equipment, steam, electrical or fuel connections and/or machinery, laundry machinery, refrigerating machinery and domestic refrigerators. The Chief Engineer is to ensure that the machinery is operated at maximum efficiency in order to maintain the current Charter Party performance requirements. Where operational difficulties occur affecting the machinery performance, a detailed report of these and the remedial action to be taken is to be forwarded to the Company from the first convenient port. In the event of serious difficulties, the Company is to be advised by the quickest means possible i.e. SatCom, telex, telephone etc. at the earliest opportunity. Repairs to auxiliary machinery not essential to the propulsion of the ship are to be carried out at sea as far as practicable. The Chief Engineer is to exercise the utmost control over repairs and maintenance in order to effect the maximum economy consistent with safe and efficient operations. The Chief Engineer Officer is to ensure that all sea connections are closed up and in working order before the ship leaves dry-dock, and is to report this fact to the Master or, in his absence, to the Officer-in-Charge before water is admitted to the dry-dock. Following completion of periodical overhauls and before the ship sails after repairs, a dock trial is to be made of all machinery and the result reported to the Master and AVP. Duty on Joining On joining the ship, the Chief Engineer must make an examination of the plant including pumping and deck machinery. Any mechanical limitations or machinery defects should be reported to the Company in writing at the first opportunity. A handover check list is to be agreed and countersigned with the leaving Chief Engineer. Supervision of Maintenance As the Chief Engineer is in overall charge of all maintenance work on the machinery in the Engine Room and on Deck, he is, at his own discretion, personally to supervise maintenance. Standing Orders

On joining, the Chief Engineer is to issue his own Standing Instructions to supplement Company Regulations. Daily report to Master The Chief Engineer is to give the Master a report at noon each day showing speed on engines, percentage of slip, fuel consumption and quantity of fuel remaining. Bunkering The Chief Engineer is responsible to the Master for ensuring that adequate bunkers are on board, of sufficient quality and quantity with safe margin for the next voyage. At bunkering times the Chief Engineer is to personally check that the correct setting of lines and valves is made prior to commencement of bunkering. The Chief Engineer is responsible to the Master for ensuring that the relevant sections of the Oil Record Book are correctly maintained. Steering Gear The Chief Engineer is responsible for the efficient working condition, repair and upkeep of the steering engine and gear. After any repair or overhaul the steering gear is to be tested in the presence of the Chief Engineer and the Chief Officer who, together, are to satisfy themselves that it is working efficiently. An entry to this effect is to be made in the Engine Room Log Book. Before entering and leaving port and approaching narrow waters, the steering gear is to be tested thoroughly and an entry to this effect is to be made in the Engine Room Log Book and the Deck Log Book. Whilst at sea, in addition to the Watch keeper's examination of the steering gear before every watch or every four hours, the Chief or the First Assistant Engineer is to examine the gear closely every day and note such examinations in the Engine Room Log Book.

2.1.2 1ST ASSISTANT ENGINEER (2nd ENGINEER) TITLE 1ST ASSISTANT ENGINEER PURPOSE The management of watchkeeping in the engine room and related areas under the UMS system or when manned, including shipkeeping routines in port or when at anchor. The organisation of all technical maintenance relating to ship's installation and equipment. REPORTS TO Chief Engineer REPORTS FROM Third and Fourth Engineers, other Engineers and Engineer Cadets when carried, and Ratings as appropriate. LIAISES WITH Other members of the Ship's Management Team. Duties and Responsibilities 1. To participate in the general planning of maintenance and operations. 2. To control the detailed implementation of the general plans in appropriate areas. 3. To plan the activities of his immediate subordinates. 4. To serve as a member of the Management Team. 5. To implement safety policies and practices. 6. To act as Training Officer for any Engineer Cadets/Ratings. 7. To deputise for the Chief Engineer when necessary. 8. To appraise the performance of immediate sub-ordinates and Cadets and report same to Chief Engineer. Leadership To command the confidence of the ship's complement by example, by fostering good working and social relationships and by developing the abilities of his sub-ordinates. Special Responsibilities 1. To effect all maintenance of machinery and allied equipment and to control its quality, taking charge personally as necessary. 2. To assist with any Planned Maintenance System and its documentation. 3. To advise Chief Engineer on matters pertaining to seaworthiness of vessel at all times. 4. To ensure that the ship is ready in all technical respects for any operational requirement. 5. To assume the responsibility for the maintenance of fixed safety equipment, including the CO2 flooding system. 6. To ensure that all safety requirements are met during maintenance. 7. To participate as required in watchkeeping and the organisation of engine room watches; and to implement and monitor operations under the Unmanned System. 8. To carry out instructional duties as required. 9. To familiarise himself with technical equipment in all areas, other than the Navigating Bridge. 10. To understudy the Chief Engineer. 11. To develop himself for promotion to Chief Engineer by acquiring flexibility of attitude and management skills necessary to promote progress. 12. To assist with training of all members of the Ship's Company. 13. The day-to-day control and supervision of Engine-room Ratings as necessary, ensuring safe practices and procedures are followed. 14. To control and record the use of spare gear. 15. To control the stores and spares utilised in maintenance tasks relating to the technical installation and equipment. 16. To observe all statutory requirements with regard to pollution prevention. 17. Other duties as required by the Chief Engineer.

NOTES Responsibility The First Assistant Engineer is directly responsible to the Chief Engineer for the overhauling of, and repair work to, the main engine, boilers, auxiliaries, electrical equipment, deck machinery, cargo pumping plant, lifeboat motors, emergency fire pumps and emergency generator. He is also responsible for all laundry, galley and pantry machinery and steam and oil fuel connections. He is to maintain close liaison with the Chief Officer in day-to-day matters affecting the Deck Department. When the Chief Engineer is absent or indisposed, the First Assistant Engineer will assume his duties and take charge of the Engine Department. The First Assistant Engineer is directly responsible to the Chief Engineer for setting up the main machinery and ensuring all safety and alarm systems are functional prior to engines being placed on standby or conventional or UMS (Unattended Machinery Spaces) operations. Duties The First Assistant Engineer must keep a full record of overhauling and repair work carried out and of all gauging and boiler water tests. These records are to be presented at regular intervals to the Chief Engineer for his signature. He is responsible for the cleanliness and orderliness of the Engine and Boiler Rooms and for the proper and economical use of all stores, tools and spare gear, an inventory of which he will keep. The First Assistant Engineer is in charge of the Engine Room staff. He is to see that the Chief Engineer's instructions are carried out by efficient organisation and is to direct the Engine Room staff accordingly. The First Assistant Engineer must keep the Chief Engineer fully informed about the progress of maintenance and repair work, running of the machinery, conduct and ability of the staff, and is to report immediately to him any unusual occurrence in the Engine Room. Other duties will include: i) The proper completion of the Engine Room Log Book. ii) The correct setting of valves and lines prior to loading lubricants.

2.1.3 2ND ASSISTANT ENGINEER (3rd ENGINEER) TITLE 2ND ASSISTANT ENGINEER PURPOSE The management of an engine room watch. machinery, equipment and structure. Assisting with Cadet training. REPORTS TO 1st Assistant Engineer

Duties and Responsibilities 1. To plan all duties and jobs assigned to him. 2. To assist the 1st Assistant Engineer with the planning of maintenance. 3. To support the Shipboard organisation and Safety organisation. 4. To deputise for the 1st Assistant Engineer when necessary. 5. To deputise for the Electrician when necessary.

Special Responsibilities 1. To keep and take an effective charge of an engine room watch. 2. To diagnose machinery faults, take remedial action where possible, and to report. 3. To carry out maintenance as directed. 4. To assume special responsibilities for items and systems of machinery as directed by the 1st Assistant Engineer which may include:a) Main engine, including all associated plant, fuel injection equipment and cylinder head valves b) Generator/Alternator engines c) Purification of lubricating and fuel oils d) All compressed air equipment, both fixed and portable e) Domestic refrigeration plant f) Air-conditioning plant g) All safety and fire-fighting machinery h) boiler water chemicals and analysis of boiler water to ensure that boiler water treatment is effective. 5. 6. 7. 8. To have a knowledge of electrical systems and to deputise for the Electrician if necessary. To observe all statutory requirements with regard to pollution. To carry out instructional duties as required. To understudy the 1st Assistant Engineer and Other duties as required.

NOTE: The Third Assistant Engineer has the same Special Responsibilities; the Chief Engineer will determine the allocation of these responsibilities.

2.1.4 3RD ASSISTANT ENGINEER (4TH ENGINEER) TITLE 3RD ASSISTANT ENGINEER PURPOSE The management of an engine room watch. The maintenance of machinery, equipment and structure. Assisting with Cadet and Rating training. REPORTS TO 1st Assistant Engineer Duties and Responsibilities 1. To plan all duties and jobs assigned to him. 2. To support the Shipboard organisation and the Safety organisation. 3. To deputise for the 2nd Assistant Engineer when necessary. Special Responsibilities Special Responsibilities are exactly the same as those of the 2nd Assistant Engineer. The Chief Engineer will determine the allocation of these responsibilities.

2.1.5 ELECTRICAL ENGINEER TITLE ELECTRICIAN PURPOSE To manage the operation and maintenance of electrical plant and electronic equipment. to assist with watchkeeping duties as required. REPORTS TO Chief Engineer Duties and Responsibilities 1. To participate in the general planning of electrical/electronic maintenance. 2. To plan all duties and jobs assigned to him. 3. To support the Shipboard organisation and Safety organisation. Special Responsibilities 1. To effect all electrical maintenance and to control its quality. 2. To operate the electrical Planned Maintenance System. 3. To ensure the ship is ready in all electrical aspects for any operational requirements. 4. To diagnose electrical faults, take remedial action and to report 5. To be present in the Engine room during manoeuvre unless instructed otherwise by the Chief Engineer or 1st Assistant Engineer. 6. To carry our instructional duties as required. 7. To familiarise himself with the work of Engineer officers and to assist with mechanical maintenance when required. 8. To observe all statutory requirements with regard to pollution. 9. To assist in the operation and maintenance of TVs, VDUs etc used in training. 10. The maintenance and repair of all alarm systems, fire detection equipment and telephone systems with the assistance, when possible, from the Radio Officer. 11. To co-operate with the Radio Officer in the maintenance of Navigating Bridge electronic equipment. 12. Other duties as required.

2.1.6 PUMPMAN TITLE Pumpman PURPOSE To operate and maintain the vessels pumproom/pumps and cargo handling equipment to the Company required standard. To carry out repair and maintenance duties both on deck and in the engine spaces as instructed by Chief Officer and Chief Engineer. REPORTS TO Chief Officer Duties and Responsibilities 1. To assist the Chief Officer in operational and maintenance planning. 2. To assist the Deck Officers with the operation of vessels cargo plant during cargo operation. 3. To support the shipboard organisation and safety organisation. 4. Responsible to the Chief Officer for routine maintenance of cargo handling equipment and for informing Chief Officer and Chief Engineer of any faults or defects in this equipment. 5. Responsible to the Chief Officer for the effective deployment of ratings assigned to him for operation and maintenance. 6. To carry out engineering tasks as required according to skill level. 7. To carry out planned maintenance on machinery and equipment. 8. To diagnose equipment faults and rectify, within own skill levels and in co-operation with vessels officers. 9. Assist ratings to handle and stow stores and spare gear as required. 10. To supervise the time keeping of ratings assigned to him. 11. To develop own knowledge, skills, habits and attitudes and those of sub-ordinates with the emphasis on acquiring additional skills. 12. To carry out instructional duties as required. 13. To assist with and participate in all aspects of Safety training. 14. Obtain and maintain a close working knowledge of agreed policies and regulations on all aspects of shipboard work and life. 15. To control certain areas of stores, particularly those stowed in the deck areas and forecastle. 16. To have particular involvement in the security of the ship, its equipment, tools, stores and outfit; and to be responsible to the Chief Officer for those items of the foregoing assigned to his control.

2.1.7 MECHANIC or FITTER TITLE MECHANIC PURPOSE To personally perform, and/or lead those Ratings assigned to him in the performance of any agreed tasks allotted to him, and to monitor the results. Leadership To command the confidence of the ship's company by example, by fostering good working and social relationships and by developing the abilities of his sub-ordinates. Duties and Responsibilities 1. To assist the 1st Assistant Engineer in operational and maintenance planning. 2. To support the shipboard organisation and safety organisation. 3. Responsible to the 1st Assistant Engineer for the discipline and control of the Engine Room ratings at all times. 4. Responsible to the 1st Assistant Engineer for the effective deployment of ratings assigned to him for operation and maintenance. 5. To weld, solder, braze and burn as required according to skill level. 6. To carry out planned maintenance on machinery and equipment as required. 7. To diagnose faults and rectify, within own skill levels. 8. Assist the Electrician as required. 9. Assign Engine Room ratings to watches as required. 10. Assist Engineer Officers when bunkering 11. Assist ratings to supervise, handle and stow stores and spare gear as required. 12. To be responsible for the maintenance of Engine Room portable fire fighting equipment and closing appliances, flaps, ventilators, doors etc. 13. To supervise the time keeping of ratings assigned to him. 14. To develop own knowledge, skills, habits and attitudes and those of sub-ordinates with the emphasis on acquiring additional skills. 15. To carry out instructional duties as required. 16. To assist with and participate in all aspects of Safety training. 17. Obtain and maintain a close working knowledge of agreed policies and regulations on all aspects of shipboard work and life. 18. To control certain areas of stores, particularly those stowed in the engine room stores and Workshops; and to assist with the stock control records and preparation of requisitions. 19. To have particular involvement in the security of the ship, its equipment, tools, stores and outfit; and to be responsible to the 1st Assistant Engineer for those items of the foregoing assigned to his control. 20. To assist in the maintenance and repair of all mechanical equipment, pipelines and valves, and structural steelwork.

2.1.8 MOTORMAN (ALL GRADES) TITLE According to grade PURPOSE To effectively carry out assigned tasks. REPORTS TO 1st Assistant Engineer, Engineer Officer of the Watch, Mechanic or CPO (Deck) as appropriate. Duties and Responsibilities 1. To carry out assigned duties in a safe and responsible manner. 2. To assist the Officer of the Watch, when assigned to Watchkeeping duties, at sea or in port; and to remain in close contact with the O.O.W. keeping him fully appraised of the Ratings whereabouts at all times. 3. To perform any tasks for which the Rating holds particular skills or experience. 4. To conduct himself in a manner which is conducive to fostering good working and social relationships.
