Workplace Diversity Best Practices


Presented by: Bobbie Nuthals, Integrys Energy Group, Employee Relations Consultant; Kerry Ann Wurz, Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, Plant Administrative Leader; Kelly Holtmeier, PHR, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Manager of the Center for Global Cultures; and Dr. Alem Asres, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Director of College Diversity and Affirmative Action/Instructor ABOUT THE PROGRAM: As 2011 co-winners of the WI-SHRM Workplace Diversity Advocate award, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and Wisconsin Public Service will share their diversity experience and initiatives in the workplace. NWTC will discuss various staff training and initiatives which are making a difference for their employees and customers. Additionally, they will share examples of ways to partner with NWTC and other educational institutions to maximize diversity efforts at your organization. WPS will share how they have effectively established a Diversity & Inclusion Network and how they get employees involved to foster an environment in which all employees feel valued and respected. ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Bobbie Nuthals, Employee Relations Consultant, is representing Wisconsin Public Service, a subsidiary of Integrys Energy Group, as the recipient of the 2011 CWSHRM Diversity Award. Bobbie will share how Integrys Energy Group has developed a culture of diversity through the various management plans and internal focus groups. She currently manages the Affirmative Action plans for Integrys Energy Group. Along with managing these plans she is also responsible for the companies Affirmative Action Good Faith Efforts. The Affirmative Action Good Faiths Efforts focus on programs that provide opportunities to women, minorities, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. Bobbie is also a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Network and Women with Energy Employee Affinity Group. Her responsibilities encompass all aspects of human resources including programs, policies, and systems that support diversity and compliance efforts. She oversees all Integrys Energy Group employment related activities and interactions with the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). Kerry Ann Wurz, Plant Administrative Leader, is a National SHRM and CWSHRM member and is PHR certified. She works at the Weston Power Plant in Rothschild, Wisconsin. She provided input for the CWSHRM Diversity Award application and also the WI SHRM Diversity Award application in 2011. Kerry will discuss how she works with plant management on a local level to support diversity. She will share examples of ways the plant has engaged diversity on a local level.

Dr. Alem Asres earned his Ph. D., in Social Foundations of Education with emphasis on Comparative and Multicultural Education from the University of Maryland, College Park. He received his MA degree in Urban Sociology and Urban Planning from Howard University, Washington D.C., and his BA in Political Science with emphasis in International Relations, from the University of Maryland, College Park. Kelly Holtmeier, PHR, is Manager of the Center for Global Cultures at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. She has been with the College for 14 years holding various positions in Human Resources and Student Services, with her current role incorporating a combination of the Colleges international and diversity initiatives. Kelly is a member of the Colleges Diversity team and participates in a community education-based group on diversity in Northeast Wisconsin. Kelly has a bachelor degree in Psychology and Spanish, as well as a Master of Arts in Psychology and Organizational Development. Kelly has been a national member of SHRM since 1994 and a Green Bay Area Chapter member since 1997.

Cancellations that occur less than one week prior to the meeting date will not be refunded.
