Fighting cuts, corruption and racism

W
e need an alternative to the three main parties. They all want ordinary people to pay for the crisis caused by greedy bankers and tax evasion by big business. The Tories and the Lib-Dems are attacking the welfare state. They are cutting jobs, benefits and services, attacking pensions and pay, privatising the NHS, increasing tuition fees and cutting EMA so they have more money to give to the rich. That lies behind the 750 job cuts at Rotherham hospital. Traditionally, the Labour Party has claimed to represent ordinary people. However what the Tories are now doing was started by the last Labour government. And Labour in opposition still agrees that cuts are necessary. The scandal of the Labour selection meeting in Rotherham is one sign of the contempt Labour leaders have for ordinary people. Rotherham Labour Council is encouraging schools to become academies, outside any local democratic control and making cuts. They are doing the Tories dirty work. Everywhere we look we see corruption and a lack of transparency. The MacShane scandal is the tip of the iceberg. As always its ordinary working people who take the hit. Time and again these robbers get a slap on the wrist and go their merry way. Too many of these people have their snouts firmly in the trough and think nothing of us. In Rotherham, we have witnessed attacks on our community since the 1980s. The grooming scandal reflects a wider problem in society, as the Jimmy Saville revelations show.

The Rotherham authorities did not protect those vulnerable young women because they came from poor and damaged backgrounds not because of any politically correct cover up. Cuts in jobs and resources were also to blame. There should be a public inquiry. But we must stop racists and fascists whipping up racism and scapegoating Asian people over the case. We are a close knit community which works together. The two recent Unite Against Fascism rallies showed the people of Rotherham united against any form of racism. As a teacher in Rotherham and joint Division Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, I have been actively involved in many fights to defend education, and the jobs of my fellow teachers. A vote for me is a vote for someone who will oppose all cuts and offer a socialist alternative to the unfeeling policies of the main parties. I will represent you on a workers wage. If I am elected, I pledge to live on the average wage, not the inflated 70,000 MPs salary plus expenses. Elect a workers MP on a workers wage Elect Ralph Dyson
