STATEMENT 15

One of the primary exempt purposes of the foundation is the awarding of individual glants, cogni-zing-Gutink ac uevemen s m t e areas of Arts & Humanities, Human g Condition, Public Policy, Technology & Employment and Environment. During 2006, grants of $1,250,000 were made to 5 individuals or charitable organizations designated by them, as detailed on the following page. These awards are granted in accordance with IRC Section 4945 (g) on an objective and nondiscriminatory basis pursuant to a procedure approved in advance by the Internal Revenue Service. Part IX-A. Line 3 One of the primary exempt purposes of the Foundation is the awarding of grants through The Teresa Heinz Scholars for Environmental Research program. This program provides doctoral dissertation and master's thesis or project enhancement support for research on emerging environmental issues. Scholars must use the award to enhance the quality of their dissertation or master's thesis. During 2006, grants of $127,499 were made to 14 individuals detailed in Statement 14 and $51 was expended for administrative expenses related to this program. Research must have public policy relevance that increases society's understanding of environmental problems and their solutions. Individuals and dissertations or thesis or projects that do not meet these criteria will not be considered. These awards are granted in accordance with IRC Section 4945 (g) on an objective and nondiscriminatory basis pursuant to a procedure approved in advance by the Internal Revenue Service. Part IX-A. Line 4 One of the primary exempt purposes of the foundation is the awarding of the Heinz Senate Fellowship which assists the U.S. Senate in identifying and developing new leaders in issues affecting an aging population and senior citizens. During 2006, $11,159 was expensed relating to this program. Heinz Family Foundation makes grants only to prior selected organizations that are public charities as described in Section 501(c)(3). The Heinz Family Foundation is not permitted by the U. S. government tax laws to make grants to individuals or organizations unless they are a qualified 501(c)(3) public charity in the United States.
