(2hours/week) intermediate Textbook: English Scrapbook Number of students: 21 Topic: It started as a fairytale Focus: reading, speaking, listening Type of lesson: acquiring new vocabulary; practicing reading

comprehension and communication skills Timing: 50 minutes Aims: by the end of the lesson Ss will be able: A1. to create a communicative and interactive environment and to practice reading comprehension; A3. to practice new vocabulary so as to be able to use it appropriately; A4. to ask and answer questions about the text; Methods and techniques: Direct Method, reading aloud, question and answer exercise, conversation Organization forms: lockstep, pair-work, individual work Material resources: laptop, worksheets, blackboard, notebooks, textbook Human resources: compact class, active students

Evaluation: error correction/observation PROCEDURE 1. Warm-up Skills: Speaking Interaction: T-SS Timing: 5 minutes Activity: The T greets the Ss and they greet the T back. T asks if anyone is missing. The SS name the absentees.

2. Lead-in Skills: Speaking (to create a communicative and interactive

environment), listening Interaction: T-SS Activity: T states that this morning on her way heard an older song which she liked very much. T asks the Ss if they want to hear the song. The Ss agree. T plays the song. The Ss listen to the song. T asks a few questions about the singer and his song. Do you recognize the singer? What is the name of the song? How did he become famous? In what year did he win the Eurovision contest? Do you think he earned it? / Why? /Why not?

Did you have another favourite? The T asks again what the songs title was. T says that she will hand out a hard copy with the lyrics of the songs and that they are about to read out loud the lyrics. Then they have to say which kind of fairytale Alexander Rybak talks about in his song (a story with fairies and princesses or a love story?) The Ss are supposed to answer that Rybak talks about a love story which he considers to be a fairytale. T asks the Ss to name other famous couples they know. Ss give examples. T asks if all the mentioned couples are still together/married and if not the Ss must name the divorced/ split up couples. T now states the title of the lesson, writes it on the blackboard and Ss write it down in their notebooks. Timing: 25 minutes

3. Control practice Skills: reading, listening (to approach language from an inductive point of view, to practice reading comprehension) Interaction: T-SS Timing: 8 minutes Activity: T asks the Ss to read the text as they listen to the story. Then they must mark the statements as true of false. a) In the year 1991, in July, Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer.

b) The royal couple had a normal ceremony c) The wedding took place at Saint Pauls Cathedral. d) Lady Diana gave birth to three sons. e) The royal couple divorced as many other 20th century couples. f) Tragically, Lady D. died in a plane crash. 4. Feed-back Skills: reading, listening (to approach language from an inductive point of view, to practice reading comprehension) Interaction: T-SS Timing: 10 minutes Activity: T names Ss telling them to take turns in reading aloud a sentence from the text It started as a fairytale on page 81. Ss read the text. After reading T draws a chart on the table with three headings and names Ss to complete the chart with information from the text.

5. Assignment Interaction: T-SS Timing: 2 minutes T asks the Ss if they know any other famous royal couples and tells them they are about to write a short composition about last years royal wedding.
