COURSE REQUIREMENT IN RIZAL

MOVIE ANALYSIS
I . SUMMARY This movie portrays the real life story of jose Rizal. It narrates his life from childhood up to his execution through the hand of the Spanish . In this movie, some parts of Rizals famous Novels, Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo was shown. This movie will enlightens the mind of every Filipino in the evil that was done by the Spanish during the 19th century. It will also tells us that Filipino was not treated equally by that time in terms of living and in education. In his early age, Jose was sent to study in Spain. This is to continue the plan and dreams of his brother Paciano. He used to write anything to bring out the abuses done by the Spanish. Jose excels in his studies as a medical student at Madrid University and eventually earns a degree as an ophthalmic surgeon. When he came back to Philippines in 1892, he was arrested by the Spanish Authorities and sent him to Dapitan in Mindanao wherein they can keep on watch with him. It is there that he meets the love of his life, Josephine Bracken, although the movie does not devote much attention to this love affair. When a rebellion breaks out in 1896 the Spanish governor orders that Rizal be moved to the prison in Manila. It is there that Rizal is introduced to Luis Taviel who has been appointed to defend him at his trial. Taviel is a Spanish officer who at first mistrusts Rizal and views him as a dangerous revolutionary. The evil head of the Franciscan order in Manila arranges for a new governor to take over control of the Philippines. The new governor promptly orders a show trial where the outcome has already been decided. Rizal must die. Despite his best efforts, Taviel cannot save Rizal from his fate. The verdict is reached and the execution date is set for December 30, 1896.

II. What scene provokes your sensitivity Actually, the thing that inspire my sensitivity was seeing a servant of the church doing such unacceptable things in their vocation. I cant believe that those people that should be holy are those people who are also violent in their act.

The fact that Filipino on that time was not treated equally also provokes my sensitivity. The way they called as Indio is also hard to accept. The Spanish should view everyone as people not as servant. The way they humiliated Filipino student in class is really unacceptable, because our Nationality doesnt matter for us to respect each other.

III. What realization did you find after watching the film differ in some aspects from the books perspective ? What are those differences? Off course we all know that those in the book is more detailed than having it in movie. But i admit that it easy to appreciate the story if you are watching it. I am expecting more in the movie tht I can be able to see how naughty is Rizal when he was a child. And I want also to see those experiments that he did when he was a kid but I didnt find it there. Many of Rizals achievements/ writings are not also included in the Movie where in fact you would find it in the books. The different places that hed was not also shown well.

IV. How did the film change your perspective on Jose Rizal? Rizal is really deserving to be the national hero because he awakens all our minds to have a revolution. Rizal is not also a womanizer as I know before, It was just a humor. It is just that he loved all the girl that have been passed on his way up to the highest level. I also adore Rizal for he has many talents and in fact he is really intelligent. He had mastered many other languages. I like the fact he would stand on the truth even he knows that he would be in danger. .
