Testing: Typing Speed from A-Z Comparing: Boys and Girls People: 25 boys and 25 girls Tool: A-Z Online typing speed test http://www.captaincynic.com/thread/56621/how-fast-can-u-type-a-z-game.htm Introduction to Project: This Statistics Project was a research project. I decided to test the typing speed from A-Z by using an online website. I would be testing 25 boys and 25 girls, find the average of each persons time and then compare the times between boys and girls to see if there is a relationship. If there is then I would have something to conclude but if there is no pattern or relationship seen then that would tell me something different. Hypothesis: I think girls would have a faster typing speed from A-Z than boys. It is true boys take more pride in saying they are fast at typing, but the daily activities of both genders can prove that they are not as fast. Both genders play sports so that would not differentiate any information. Boys play games which require the use of the mouse. Girls like going on the social network which require typing and the amount of time they spend on the social network is as high boys spend with gaming. ATLs: To do this project, we needed to have everything well organized as it had a deadline. We needed to be able to communicate properly with the people taking the survey. Communication was a very important area because they needed to know what they were doing and I needed to make sure there are no flaws in the survey. Another area of the ATLs was that we needed to be open minded towards the others doing the survey as people are different and some might find it more difficult than others so I cannot rush them Process of Collecting Data: First I tried to collect data from 8D. We needed 25 boys and 25 girls. I would then go to other classes to collect their time. I needed to collect times in my own time in homeroom also. This is a sample of year 8. After collecting the data the results are then put into the tables below.

The Graph above shows the results of both boys and girls. Based on this it shows that more boys are faster than girls, but more boys are also slower than girls. Also there is one girl who is slower than the rest. Most of the girls tend to land in the area of 9 to 10.9. It is difficult to say which gender is faster as more boys got in the 3 to 4.9, but most of the boys got in the 11 to 12.9. Most of the girls got in 9 to 10.9. If we base it of what most of the people got then girls would have a faster speed.

Conclusion
There is no pattern and there is no relationship between the 2 genders data. Most of the boys got slower than most of the girls, but the amount of boys that got fast were more than girls. For each gender there are a group who people who are faster than the others or slower than the others but most of the people would get about 9 to 12 seconds. Most of the girls got from 9 to 10.9 while most of the boys got from 11 to 12.9 seconds. Based on most of each gender, the girls are faster at typing from a-z which would prove my hypothesis right. If we look at the whole set of data then it no gender is faster and it would depend on the person entirely.

Evaluation/Relfection- What Have I Done , what went well and what could have been better?
This was a statistics project in mathematics class. To do this we had to choose a subject which I chose typing speed from A-Z. Then I decided to compare the speed between boys and girls. I drew my table and started gathering information; each person would do this four times. Gathering information took very long for me and I could not get all the girls data until the final week Monday. I would then find the average of each persons results and put them into a frequency table. After that I put both genders data into a graph so I could compare them and that is when I found out that that there was no pattern and it does no relate to the gender about who is faster than who at typing. I think the whole thing went well, It was organized and the data was collected in time. I think that I have included all if not most of everything I need to include into this project document. I think things could have been better with the data collection process which could have been faster. There was a lot of time where I had the chance to get information from the people around me but I did not do anything about it. I also think that when we had to go get information for other classes I was not comfortable going into another class to get a student out for testing and my partner was not comfortable with that as well. If we stood out of our comfort zone and approached more people we could have got more data more quickly and the process could have been much faster. Overall I think we put our best effort into this and I am happy with the work I have produced. It was also a good experience for me and that it was experiencing real life mathematics that is not just in the class room, it is dealing with data to find out something and I really enjoyed it.
