Professional Portfolio Narratives Portfolio Definition A solid collection of evidence of the effectiveness of your teaching and reflections on that

evidence. A teaching portfolio is not an exhaustive collection of teaching related material. Rather, it is a select representation of teaching documents and evidence of your teaching effectiveness. The Candidate Performance Instrument (CPI) and your Portfolio If the purpose of your portfolio is to show how you have met the outcomes in the CPI, its probably a good idea for you to be very familiar with the CPI! The CPI has three outcome areas. Subject matter expert- how well you know the content you will teach Facilitator of learning- how well you plan, teach, manage, and assess Collaborative professional- how well you work with others and to what extent you exhibit the professional behavior associated with teaching Each outcome has four to ten proficiencies that describe specific knowledge, skills, and/or dispositions you must demonstrate to show success. It is for these proficiencies that you must provide performance evidence. Performance evidence is documentation that you can actually demonstrate your proficiency. For example, if you were required to turn a cartwheel in order to graduate from KSU, what would good performance evidence be for that skill? You would probably turn a cartwheel! However, suppose you had to provide evidence of your skill in a portfolio. What could you use? Perhaps you would include a photo or an eyewitness account. Why would just writing the statement, Yes, I can turn a cartwheel NOT be good performance evidence? The portfolio narrative is like the script for the narrator of the portfolio. It tells the viewer (or evaluator) what he or she is looking at. You will write a portfolio narrative that will describe the content of your portfolio and how it evidences your achievement of the proficiencies in the CPI. It is the narrator for your portfolio documentary. MGE- Current System-The portfolio represents the teacher candidates development as they progress through the teacher education program at KSU. In it, they place evidence that demonstrates their proficiency in the areas of subject matter expert, facilitator of learning, and collaborative professional. The Candidate Performance Instrument (CPI) lists specific proficiencies in these areas that will be used to evaluate their field experiences in TOSS and in student teaching. They set up their portfolio in Chalk and Wire in a separate portfolio using a Table of Contents (TOC) called BS_MGE Portfolio.
