Living Trees of Praise

A Baby Changes Everything. That is the theme of this years 30th celebration of the Living Christmas Trees. Laura Ingalls Wilder (remember Little House on the Prairie?) wrote, We are better throughout the year for having in spirit become a child again at Christmas time. We have child-like wonder as we remember how God became flesh and thus sing, Joy to the world the Lord has come! But we are not to be childish in our worship or responsibility; praising Him and proclaiming how He can change hearts and homes. Helen Keller, that remarkable woman who overcame tremendous adversity, said: The only real blind person at Christmas time is he who has not Christmas in his heart. But we also have Christmas on our lips. The premier word for praise in the Bible is Hallelujah! Hallelujah comes from the Hebrew word, hallal, used 99 times in the Old Testament, more than any other major word translated praise. As a high school and college student, I sang in The Messiah at Christmas, with my favorite song being The Hallelujah Chorus. It is good to remember in our current study, Trusting and Thanking God in Tough Times, that we can shout, Hallelujah! He shall reign forever and ever. No wonder hallal means to boast, to celebrate, and to be clamorously foolish. Our Living Christmas Trees Choir and Orchestra will be singing and playing His extravagant praises. Another Hebrew word translated as praise meant to pluck the strings of an instrument or to sing (zamar). It is used 40 times, particularly in 1 Chronicles 16:9, which is in one of the greatest chapters of worship in the Bible: Sing praise to Him. Tell of all His wonderful acts. Thousands will come to the seven performances and hear the life-changing gospel. During the Thanksgiving evening worship service, I taught from Psalm 100:4. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. We enter His presence by the will in sheer faith. We dont feel like doing it. Our visible hopes have dimmed, yet we start with thanksgiving (todah), a Hebrew word which means to see that which is not yet visible, knowing that God will bring deliverance. In Psalm 50:23, He who sacrifices thank offerings (todah) honors Me and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God. Then we stand in the mid-court of praise with song (tehillah). We joyfully are engaged in worship and finally in blessing the Lord (barak) and telling others of His works. You can share Christmas joy and bring peace on earth to someone by inviting him or her to the Living Trees. Pray for the Spirit to speak to them through the dialogue and music and as they hear me present the plan of salvation at the end of the program. Pray for God to use every actor, greeter, costume designer, usher, parking lot attendant, media person, singer, instrumentalist, and dozens of others that work behind the scenes.

Come hear special speakers Kim Hayes speak on Rahab December 5th, Paula Bulmer talk about Ruth on December 12th, and Shannon Moore speak about Bathsheba on December 19th. Tuesday and Wednesday RefresHer are combined for this special series. These are the stories of unlikely women who changed eternity. Rahab, a woman with a past to whom God gave a future. Ruth, who gave up everything, expecting nothing, and God honored her. Bathsheba, whose beauty stirred the passion of a king, and whose pain moved the heart of God. Mary, who responded in simple obedience to Gods call. Each was faced with extraordinary, even scandalous, challenges. Each woman took great personal risk to fulfill her calling.
