HISTORY & DEVELOPMENT Rolex industries was established in 1980 with initial capital of Rs. 7000. It was started by 5 brothers as a small partnership firm, but now it is one of leading forging plant in Rajkot (India). The firm engaged in the manufacturing of various types of forged rolled rings suitable for all types of bearings. Apart from forging, if required full furnished machine rings are also manufactured through C.N.C. route. Their efforts have resulted in coveted ISO 9002 certification in 1988 which stands for Quality Assurance in Production & Installation. Some of the achievements of Rolex which they have achieved so far.

SIZE & FORM OF ORGANIZATION Size of a unit is determined on capital basis. It is classified into three types: 1. Small Scale Unit 2. Medium Scale Unit 3. Large Scale Unit Rolex Industries is Medium Scale Unit.

FORM OF ORGANIZATION At the time of its establishment, the unit was a Pvt. Ltd. Company, but due to the need of additional capital they took a loan from bank. As such when their borrowed capital exceeded their ownership capital, its ownership got converted into Public Ltd. Co. However, it is interesting that even though its shares are not issued to public at large, it is considered as public ltd. Co.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE An organization combines and co-ordinates individual as well as group effort in an enterprise. An organization structure is the machine through which management works to accomplish its objectives. Various jobs of the enterprise are integrated into an effective operating system to achieve the organizational objectives. Patterns of organizational structure 1. Line organization 2. Staff organization 3. Functional organization 4. Line and Staff organization 5. Project Organization 6. Committee Organization 7. Task Forces Rolex Industries has adopted Line organization. Line organization points out direct vertical relationships (SuperiorSubordinate relationships) connecting the positions at each level with those above and below. The relationships form a chain of command on a hierarchy of authority in an organization. Here authority descends from Top to Bottom while responsibility increases from Bottom to Top. All important/strategic decisions are made at top level only, which

are forwarded to Middle level for direction and finally to Bottom level for its execution.

TIME KEEPING SYSTEM In todays competitive world, it is very important that the use of time is optimized. Time is Money. This saying is perfectly justified. Thus, it is very important for the industries to use their time properly so as to succeed in the market. Because if time is wasted then production time is decreased this decreases the production which in turn decreases the profit of the Business unit. With changing time, there is also change in time-keeping system of the employees. Rolex Industries uses modern Punch Card System to maintain the time records of its 275 employees. This machine maintains the record on code basis. Every employee has a unique code. In this system, information such as date, entry time, exit time, etc. of workers are maintained. The workers work in 3 shifts which are as follows: 1st shift 2nd shift 3rd shift 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

The 3rd shift is known as General Shift. All the shifts are of 8 hrs. The holiday is provided on every Wednesday.

PRODUCTION PLANNING AND CONTROL

Production planning is the key step in organizing the stock of the firm. It is very much important to decide the production level of the company. Because over production results in useless blockage of money. Also some of the products have a limited life span. In this case it proves to be more dangerous to the firm. Thus control must be established on production and its planning must be done in right way. In Rolex Industries, production planning and control are well organized. Products are made according to the demand of the customer. As such there doesnt arise the question of producing more stock than required.

DISPOSAL OF WASTE & WATER

In Rolex Industries iron pieces are the waste material. This waste is scraped & sole to steel plants and for water drainage system is there. There is no pollution created neither by chemicals not by any other waste. So it is not covered under pollution industries list.

INTRODUCTION

Personnel department refers to the management of manpower. It is being given more importance in todays modern management styles. It is also one of the most difficult functions to handle the man-power due to its vibrant nature. Man can handle the machines but it is difficult to handle the man due to its ever changing behavior. Now a day, there is a tendency to treat human resource as a separate organizational function like production, marketing, finance, etc. and managers tend to overlook their role in this though every manager has to perform vital aspects of this process. Managers should take personnel as an essential element of management process. If the firm succeeds in this area, it increases the productivity as the workers are more keep in their work as they would be rewarded for it by performance appraisal system. Thus personnel department includes all the activities related to personnel such as recruitment, selection, training, promotion, transfer, grievance handling, performance appraisal, man power planning, etc.

ORGANIZATION OF PERSONNEL DEPARTMENT

The organization of personnel department must be clear and well justified. In Rolex Industries the total control of personnel department is in the hands of managing director. The responsibility for this department rests in his hands. As we know that Rolex Industries follows Line Organization, the authority and responsibility flow downward and upward respectively. RECRUITMENT, SELECTION & INDUCTION

Recruitment and selection process starts after the identification of vacancies to be filled up. While recruitment is considered with the identification of sources from where the personnel can be employed and motivating them to offer for employment, selection takes care of choosing the most suitable personnel for employment. Flippo has defined recruitment as, Recruitment is the process of searching for prospective employees and stimulating them to apply for jobs in the organization. Thus the first step in recruitment and selection is the identification of sources of manpower supply. Here, it is very much important that right people are selected for right place, because if this is not done properly then that personnel of any specific department would not co-ordinate in smooth performing of that department. However, Rolex Industries follows the following steps in recruitment of its employees: For the selection of Top level Management, i.e. Managerial and Administrative level, advertisement is given in newspapers and magazines. In reply to the applications of prospective candidates, the company supplies its form which includes name, address, educational qualification, etc. of employees.

After that, the company calls for the interview of all the prospective candidates in form of oral and some written tests. The company sees that the candidate fulfills the necessary requirement and finally medical test is taken. If the candidate possesses experience of the job, he is directly placed on it otherwise he is given training for the job. The middle level and bottom level, i.e. directing and working level are filled using internal sources, i.e. the employees of the company are given promotion on the basis of their performance and experience. In this way the middle level is filled up. The bottom level is filled up using the same way. For workers, the friends or relatives of the workers presently working in the company are employed or are employed from near by area. INDUCTION Induction is the process in which the new comer, i.e. newly selected employee is made aware of the surroundings, his job, his superiors and subordinates. The induction process in Rolex Industries is very systematic and well organized. This induction process is carried for 1 month and may vary as per the designation of the job of the employee. In induction process, the employee is welcomed with his ideas. All efforts

are made to feel him comfortable and to free him from his nervousness and give him a home like atmosphere.

PROMOTION & TRANSFER POLICY

Advancement within an organization is ordinarily labeled as promotion which involves a change from one job to another that is better in terms of status and responsibility. Ordinarily, the change to the higher job is accompanied to increased pay and privileges, but not always. The term dry promotion refers to an increase in responsibility and status without any increase in pay. There are two types of promotion, viz. horizontal and vertical promotion. In horizontal promotion, employees job classification remains the same, only his position is increased. PROMOTION In Rolex Industries, the promotion is given on the basis of experience and work quality. Generally, the top level officials are directly recruited. In the appointment of middle level officers, the appointment is done on the basis of giving promotion to bottom level employees. With promotion they are also given financial incentives and upliftment in job position.

TRANSFER As there is no other Production branch in the country, transfer is done from one department to other only. This

transfer is given to improve the efficiency of department by appointing the efficient persons of other department.

PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL In a group, members, consciously or unconsciously, make opinion about others. The opinion may be about their

quality, behavior, way of working, etc. Such an opinion becomes basis for interpersonal interaction. In the same way, superiors form some opinion about their subordinates for determining many things like salary increase, promotion, transfer, etc. In large organizations, this process is formalized and takes the form of performance appraisal. Performance appraisal in some form has existed in old days also. For example, Wei dynasty (221-265 A.D.) in China introduced performance appraisal in which an Imperial Rater appraised the performance of members of the official family. In its present form the New York City Civil Service adopted performance appraisal in 1883. Since then and especially after World War I, performance appraisal in formal way has been adopted by most of the large organizations particularly in business field. In our country too, large organizations adopt formal appraisal method. In Rolex Industries, the performance appraisal is done annually. Here secret record is maintained of all the employees. Noting is done regarding their work, discipline, performance, attendance, etc. After that after considering the above factors, the Personnel Manager gives promotion and transfer orders to the officials.
