Office SharePoint Server 2007 Central Administration – The
Home Page
Scenario
This exercise will highlight the new layout of the Central Administrator site and the new configuration options that
are available.

Tasks Detailed Steps
a. Click on the server name listed in the Farm Topology list and the Services on
Server page will appear.
b. The Services on Server page allows you to start and stop services on the servers in
the farm from one central location.
c. The top of the page contains a list of general server roles that might be found in a
server farm. When you select a role it will highlight the suggested services for the
role. Select Custom to display the complete list.

d. For all services marked Required on Farm, not running, click Start
o When prompted for Office SharePoint Server Search settings, use
the following:
Select Use this server for indexing content
Select Use this server for serving search queries
E-Mail address: administrator@litwareinc.com

Password: pass@word1
o Click Start
o When prompted for Windows SharePoint Services Search settings,
use the following:
User name: LITWAREINC\administrator

Scenario
This page contains links to pages that help you configure settings for applications and components that are installed
on the server or server farm.

f. After the operation completes, the Application Created page will appear.
g. Click on the Create Site Collection link.
2. Create a new Site a. The Create Site Collection page will appear.

o Web Application: Keep the default value
o Title: HOL Install and Config
o Description: Hands on Lab for installation and configuration
o URL: /
o Template selection: Keep the default value
o Primary Site Collection Administrator
User name: LITWAREINC\administrator
o Quota Template: Keep the default value
c. Click OK to create your site collection; the Operation in Progress page will
appear.
d. After the operation completes, you will be notified that your top-level site
collection has been created. Click OK to continue.
3. Configuring Note: Office SharePoint Server 2007 has workflow integrated into the platform.
Workflow These settings allow an administrator to control what types of workflows are allowed.
Note: The Workflow Settings page allows you to determine two major things:
• Are user-defined workflows permitted (Ex: SharePoint Designer codeless
workflows)
• Are users without site access permitted for workflows
The changes made to these settings are global for the selected web application.
a. Click on the Workflow settings link at the bottom of the page.
b. Click Cancel to return to the Application Management page.

Create and Configure the Shared Service Provider

Shared Service
Provider
a. Click on the Create or configure this farm's shared services link under Office
SharePoint Server Shared Services. The Manage this Farm's Shared Services
page appears.
b. Click New SSP to add a new Service Provider.
c. Click on the Create a new Web application link.
d. The Create New Web Application page will appear. Fill in the page using the
following information:
o User name: LITWAREINC\administrator
o Password: pass@word1
e. Click the Ok button.
f. The Create New Shared Provider page will appear. Fill in the page using the
following information:
o Set the My Site Location: Web Application: to the same value as
SSP name: Web Application)
o Username: LITWAREINC\administrator
o Password: pass@word1
g. Click the OK button.
h. Click OK on the warning page.
i. After the Shared Provider is created click the OK button.
j. Click on SharedServices1 in the left navigation
2. Import People a. Click on the User profiles and properties link in the User Profiles and My Sites
Profiles section.
b. Click on the Configure profile import link.
c. Click on the Ok button. Note that there are additional items for scheduling profile
imports.
d. Click on the Start full import link.
e. Click on the View user profiles link to view the results of the profile import.

Office SharePoint Server 2007 Central Administration –
Operations Page
Scenario
This page contains links to pages that help you manage your server or server farm, such as changing the server farm
topology, specifying which services are running on each server, and changing settings that affect multiple servers or
applications.
e. The Add Users page will appear. Click the browse icon (looks like an open book)
and the Select People and Groups dialog will appear.
f. Enter tracy in to the Find field and press Enter.
g. Double click on “Tracy Tallman” from the return list, and click OK.
h. The menu will disappear and the Users/Groups box on the Add Users page will
be populated with your selection.

i. Click OK to add this user to the Farm Administrators group.
j. Click on the Operations tab to return to the Operations page.
2. Incoming e-mail Note: Office SharePoint Server 2007 allows e-mail to be sent to a SharePoint site for
settings storage in lists and libraries. This allows SharePoint sites to be used to archive
discussion groups, as well as to provide users a fast and convenient way to share files.
a. Click on the Incoming e-mail settings link and the Configure Incoming E-Mail
Settings page will appear.
b. This page allows an administrator to enable or disable incoming e-mail to
SharePoint lists. This setting affects the entire farm, adding or removing the
ability to enable or disable this at a list, site, or site collection level.
c. In order to enable incoming e-mail on the farm, select the Yes option in the
Enable Incoming E-Mail section.
h. Click on the Settings List Settings option and the Customize Announcements
page will appear.
i. Click on the Incoming e-mail settings link in the Communications section. The
Incoming E-Mail Settings: Announcements page will appear.

j. Select Yes for Allow this list to receive e-mail and enter announce in the text box
under E-mail address.
k. Choose Accept e-mail messages from any sender in the E-Mail Security
section.
